I love reading, every evening, once I have finished my daily tasks, I sit in my room and read, an hour at least, althought time is not a barrier, once I sit to read, time just vanishes, but a close friend told me that she likes to read two books, at once, I told her that it is imposible to follow the plot that way, is like trying to watch two movies at once, you will loose something for sure, and she told me that she find it more interesting this way. I remember that while in the university, very often I had to read from several books at once, but it was in order to make a task, and it was a few chapters from each one, not for fun. So, maybe it is posible to read more than one book at once, but, What´s the point?

It's easy to follow the plot of more than one book unless you've got a book which is exactly the same as the other. Each author should be able to make their plot diverse enough so it stands out from any other book. I usually read three books at the same time and as long as the author is doing a good job or a reader for that matter tehn you'll be sucked into to each plot .
Watching a movie is nothing like reading a book at the same time as reading a book at the same time doesn't mean sitting down and reading them all together by each page a reader will spend sometime on one book then the next, whereas a movie is generally watched straight through to the end in one lump block .
The point of reading multiple books is that you'll get to read more enjoyable books all the time instead of wasting time on one single book which may turn out to be rubbish .

I guess that it depends on the personality of every one, and its reading habits. I have seen many posts in here that tell me that it is posible, but I do prefer to stick into one storyline, beside, I like to read at night, siting in my room and rarely do it in other places, due to lack of time this days, so, maybe it its the reason why I do not read but a book at once.

Yeah it's all down to personality I guess. Most of my reading time comes at night but I do tend to force myself to read, force in a nice way of course as I enjoy reading and it's passions I think everyone should make time for .

I typically read 2 to 3 books at a time. Which book I read depends my mood at the time. If I put one down for a couple of weeks I might have to backtrack a few pages to get back into it but it works for me.
When Im reading a good one I really hate to get to the end.

It's very possible to read more than one book at once, and it's even pretty easy if the books are different enough. I don't read multiple books at once often because I think I finish books quicker when I focus on one at a time, but I don't find it difficult to be reading more than one book at once. The only time I ever recall getting confused was when I was reading two books by the same author of the same genre, and I think they were written at the same time... but even then it was only a little bit of confusion on minor points.

Many people have told me so, and, I think that it is posible, but, I still can see the point in doing this, I guess it depends on the person, I prefer to focus in one single thing, while other persons, do focus in several at one time, it includes reading. I often read in my bedroom, after the labor day, and rarely, read somewhere else, so, now I think that, it is because of my reading habits that I don´t try reading more than one at once. Thank you for your post

Well I carry a book with me wherever I go and I read anywhere and everywhere whenever I get a spare second. I don't really understand how reading more than one book can not make sense to you. I'm not typically a person who tries to multi-task but I do read multiple books on occasion.

I have read 2 books at a time but found that I do not enjoy the books the same way. I like to engross myself in a book. Sometimes I will read a book a day if they are good. I lose track of time. If I am reading more than one book at a time I find it takes much longer for me to read the books. I am not into them the same!

I don´t know, I also find that is not as enjoyable to read more than a book at once, I think that if the book is interesting enoug, it reading is enough, and if it´s not, is better to move on to the next one.

Hi albto: I think we can do it if we love these two books. I don't think you rexample of the two films is the right one. I would say that if you like to watch two different tv shows then you can do it and you'll remember the last thing you have watch about each one when you sit once again to watch each program. I am actually reading two different books at the same time and I'm enjoying them both. That's a good way, specially because some days I want to focus just in one book and some others I feel more like reading the other one. I have two options and i'm enjoying them both.

Hello Alvaro, thank you for your answer, and yes, you are right, maybe the example of the two films is not the most apropiate, and, now, I think it´s posible to read more that one book at once, but I still don´t see it as funny, maybe it depends on every personality, I prefer to focus on one single story, but the way you pointed, really have sense, I hope you enjoy your books, as I enjoy the one I am immerse right now. thanks

Maybe, but I am intrigued, How do you do it?, Two tvs?, or changing channels?, yet, I think that if the movies are interesting, or wiht complex plots, it is innevitable to miss something from one of them at least. But, I will do it tonight, maybe I am missing something not trying.

HI!
Like you I have to read different books at the same time for the university. While reading for pleasure I prefer to read only a book but sometimes happened that I was reading 2 books at the same time. Generally they are simple books like a novel and a comic book so, depending on my mood, I prefer to read a book or the other.
I know a girl, a friend of mine, that she loves to read more books at the same time. I remember she told me she was reading 5 books and were all difficult ones like "the interpretation of dreams" and the biography of Mary Stuart. I really can't understand how she can read those books at the same time!

Hello, I can´t understand how can your friend do this, but, most of all, I don´t understand why. I don´t know, maybe it depends on the person, but, I think that, if I do it just for pleasure, I´d rather concentrate in one book. Maybe if, as you say, one of the books is simpler than the other, as a comic book, it would be enjoyable for me, reading two things at once. Thank you for your answer.

I understand where your coming from albto. I read daily. I can't get enough of it. But I can not read too books at once. I have tried and the most interesting one takes over and then I have to start back over to get back into the other story. Its possible, but for me to really enjoy the story; I have to read them one at at time.

I also think that reading more than one at once is not as intersting and enjoyable as dedicate all my attention to a single interesting book, though, I have never try, but it doesn´t call me anyway.

Okay, back in the days before computers and internet and I had more time to read (and no cats), I would read 3 or 4 books at one time.
Generally speaking I had one going in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, one in my purse or car and one at work (well, at that time I worked in a library, so books were not an issue.)
Pretty much, as soon as I had finished the one in the bedroom, the one in the bathroom was far enough in that I wanted more than a few minutes reading on it, and it would go to the bedroom and a new book to the bathroom.
Now, at that time I was reading Tolkin's Lord of the Rings and another series. So, I was reading one of the one series and one of the Ring series at home. I read something not quite so heavy in my purse/car and some library book at work.
I had NO trouble keeping them straight, since they were all very different, even if at least 2 were science fiction or fantasy.
I currently have 3 books open around my desk, and I read which ever one I am more interested in at the moment. They are all very different and I have no trouble keeping them straight.

You have some interesting reading habits, and, such way, sounds very reasonable to be able to read several books at once, my habits are diferent, and maybe that´s the reason I do not read but a book at one time. Thank you for your reply.

I've read two or more books at once. Usually for me it's because one of the books happens to be a hardback. If I'm reading a hardback I'm not going to lug that around wherever I go so I end up reading another book when I'm out. Also there are times when you just can't get into one book and try picking up another. It isn't such a big deal but I wouldn't recommend reading more than two books at the same time.

Some people do like to read more than one, and even, as I have been told here, three or four at once, but, for me, it is still more fun to stick into one single story.Thank you for your reply.

It is possible to read more than one book at a time. It's not my preferred method of reading, but I've done it. Some people like the switching back and forth in plot lines. I prefer to go through it. I think you're right, it's more difficult to follow what's going on when you do the multiple book thing, but for some people that's fine. The nuance is not what they're reading for.

I think that it is posible, but I think that, at least in my case, it wouldn´t be as much as fun, as focusing in one single plot. I have onbly tryied this, reading more than one book, for my studies, never for pleasure.

I agree with you, it is hard to follow two books at once. I've done it for research too... but reading for school is not the same thing as reading for pleasure. I take it a step farther. I can't read more than three books in a row without taking a break from it. I find if I start slam reading one book after another the plots start running together and when I try to recall what book something I read once came from, I can't remember because of that. It's frustrating because I really do love to read.

Thank you for your comment dismalgrin. I know what you mean, I am a fast reader, but, I often leave a space in between books, while some other book catches me, it may be a couple of days, or a week or so, it depends.

I have tried reading two books at one time. Well not really at the same time but it was simultaneous. Once, I borrowed a book from a friend which is hardbound and since someone was in line to borrow the book as well. But before I got the chance to read it, I was already reading another ebook on my laptop and on my phone. So when I am about to lie down or sleep, I read the borrowed book and when I'm on my laptop or somewhere else without the book, I read the other one. But if asked if I were to do it again, I don't think so. It was just one special case since I had to finish the borrowed book as fast as I can. It's still best to read one book at a time to really enjoy every bit of it.

You have one point here, reading a single book at one time, is mmore easy to enjoy it, and get into the plot of it, some people tell me here that it is psible to follow the plots of two or more books, as long as they are diferent from each other, but I dont see the point.

I really wouldn't recommend reading two books at the same time. It might get confusing. Besides, if a plot is good and the story is exciting then there's no point reading another book you want to start with.

I can't read a book more than two. I'm gonna lose my focus when I read two books. What I've read will be mixed. Better If I will read a book and after reading the whole chapter, A new book again.

I have tried reading multiple books at once before, but I found that the plots would get mixed up in my head. I used to keep one book by my bed, another in the washroom, and another I would bring place to place with me, but my brain couldn't handle it.

I think that the problem with me, is that I don´t find it funny to switch from one story to another, I prefer to focus in one storyline, and follow it. I prefer to read at night, after my day, so, I think that it makes it more dificult to read more than one at once.

I actually know a lot of people that happen to have at least 2-3 books going at a time, and it does make me wonder how they can keep track and learn anything or enjoy them. The only time you will find me reading more than one book at a time is if it is an article in a magazine while reading a book, or reading my daily scriptures from the Bible.

Hi. albto_568. I have tried doing this before, but I never can't seem to stay focused. Reading two books all at one time can be a huge jumble. I will have to keep up with both stories all together and at one time. It is just like as if you are watching TV. It gets really confusing.

my point is that i dont always take or have my book with me everywhere, not to mention that i have so many i want to read these days. like for instance if i get stuck in the bathroom for a time, (you know) then i read there. so i have one stays in there. i have one that stays on the back patio as i smoke there and if its cold or to windy i smoke in the garage . so one is there also. i also have one audio book in my player in the bedroom, in case i want read asleep so my mind will not be going crazy trying to shut down problems.

I have found many answers of people with habits similar to yours, with books in several parts of their homes, I have never try this either, that´s an interesting idea, I prefer to read in my bedroom, after my day, and spend a couple of hours, or so, reading, and I get immerse in the plot of the story. I have realized that this is the reason I have never thought of reading more than one at once, because I have only one spot for reading. Thank you for your response.

I usually have 3-4 books being read at one time. That's pretty much how I've been reading in the last few years. I'll have a book in each room and pick up the nearest one when I'm in the mood to read. I also play poker - usually two or three hands at once while playing scrabble online. Maybe I've grown a bit hyper over the years. Sitting still doing nothing drives me nuts.

I mostly read at night, after my day of work, so, my habits are diferent, but is an interesting comment this of yours, thank you.

I've been reading books ever since I was a little kid and I absolutely love them! I ALWAYS have a book to read and life is no fun without them
I can only read one book too as you do end up getting confused and I think it's a lot more enjoyable if you just read the one as you can fully concentrate on it and I don't know? I just feel you get more pleasure out of reading one at a time.
When I was young I did used to read 2 or more books at a time. I don't know why, I just used to. Maybe I had too much free time? But I would never do that now as it just does not sound appealing and you can't really appreciate a book if you're not fully into it. There are some books that you need to actually think about and look deep into but if you're reading two books at the one time you can get confused about what happens in what book and I feel I used to rush my books more as if it was a competition to see how fast I could read it.
I don't know if this answer even makes sense to you but I tried my best to make it as clear as possible.

Your answer is clear and maybe it says what I meant to say from the beginning, thank you for it. I have never tryied to read more than one book at once, unless I had to, for studies or something, but I find that I can enjoy something if I am focus on it, rather than try to follow two or more plots at once, and, if t is a deep book what I am reading, definitely, I have to give it it´s time. I see no reason to begin with another book while I am reading one already, unless the first one is so boring, in that case, I rather quit the first one, before I begin with another. Thank you again for you comments here.

That's amazing! I didn't know anybody can do that until now.
I can't do that I must say. I like to savor the plot of the story and reading two at once would make it difficult for me to understand the story.
