Weird shoes...

Shoes sure are crazy today. I saw in magazines...open-toed BOOTS! Yes, boots with an open toe! I burst out laughing! Ankle boots or knee high...both are open toe! What's the point of the boot if the toe is open! And ankle high sandels. Good grief..sandels are supposed to be strappy and simple and airy...yet these I saw were normal looking sandles, on the foot, but once to the ankle...went into a boot style up the calf! Why do they make them and why do people wear them! Beyond me!

I've seen a lot of crazy styled shoes. I love shoes but i won't go with those styles that looks funny. Those shoes only looks good with the models in the ramp. But i can't imagine myself wearing those shoes in my everyday life like going to work, not even with some occasion. Maybe some designers wants a new look, but not all people can afford to wear and buy. Have a good day

That's the other thing...they wear them on the runways and ramps...how many wear them in real life? And how my regular people would buy them to wear in real life? I can't think there would be anyone that would think they are really nice and i just have to have them! Yes, the "they are fashionable and I want to be the fashionista of the day" and wear them, but I can't believe anyone wears them because they think they are cute or adorable or nice or anything! And you know they are so expensive that most couldn't afford them even if they did like them!

Yeah for some reason shoe designer are getting a bit too much. I saw a recent discussion where the high heels were literally duck flippers with heels. I have seen the boots with the open front and my first thought was oh my won't the toes freeze and or get wet in the snow. LOL... I would not wear the boots with the ope front at all can't see the point. I do love fashionable shoes and have many pairs but those are not one that I would consider.

I saw the flippers to. What are they thinking? And even if they were something someone wanted to wear...how could afford them of us normal kind of people!!! There is so many ways to make a shoe that is appealing and nice and all...sorry, flippers and open toed boots are not among them!

When my 8th grade English teacher wanted to give an example of what the word incongruous meant she spoke of wearing bobby sox inside high heeled shoes and we all laughed, but a few years ago that was the latest rage in fashion. Go figure!

Call me warped, but I thought the pink "shoes" illustrating your discussion were pretty cute. I wouldn't wear them, but hey! The only point I guess is if your big toe was sore and you didn't like anything rubbing on it. I wore sandals for years after a student stepped on my foot and the toenail came off. OUCH! But as a fashion statement, well, no.

That was pretty bad too, wasn't it? Although...contest wise...I'd say that was at least practical...don't have to buy pantyhose and can live with one pair of shoes for multiple attire. (am I scrapping the bottom of the barrel or what!?!!?) I just don't understand why everyone likes open toed shoes at all! What is the point of having your one big toe and half the next one sticking out? I just don't get it!!

Yes designers sure create some weird styles lately. To me most of them are just hideous and I wouldnt be caught wearing them if they were the last shoe that I could buy to wear. Its surprising though what you see people wearing though. Even if I dont like that awful stuff others do so the stuff sells somehow.

Most of it is so expensive "regular" people can't afford it...but therein is another question? Why? Why make something that only a few can buy? Why not make something MANY will buy? Don't you want to make money on your designs? But then again, looking back...this kind of sillyness doesn't last long in the fashion world...couple months and they are on to their next "fiasco", oh, excuse me..."fashion"! So why bother!

I saw those shoes too in the magazines and they too made me laugh and wonder who will buy it? The designs are outrageous and i think, those who will buy it are outrageous themselves. It will serve as their self expression of who they are ! Wearing them will really take courage ! Courage to face the people who will be staring at your shoes!

I think you are giving them to much undeserved credit!!! I swear...even with my best try at thinking "outside the shoe box"...I can't figure why anyone would design such stupidity! They aren't nice looking, practical, not gorgous, se-x-ee, stylish, complimentary, alluring, pretty... and the list goes on. To me, they are the ugliest things around! Makes me wonder what goes on in a designers mind if "major ugly" is what he want's to create!

I can only say those weird shoes could only be worn by weird people themselves.

It is the dumbest things since spandex! I swear...the only ones you will see wearing them are those on the "red carpet". Those are the only ones arrogant to wear such stupidity out in public!

I saw those open-toed boots too, and like you, I just had to laugh. I guess fashion doesn't have to make sense OR be practical now-a-days. I cannot imagine wearing open-toed boots! Maybe they're for people with sweaty feet and they need air to their tootsies hahaha. They sure have some strange looking footwear anymore! What's next in fashion footwear? Open-toed army style boots?!

No, but CLOSED toe SANDLES are! I just saw in a magazine...sandles with the little deally thing between the toes (like flipflops) and then about 3 inches into the shoe on the foot is strappy/sandlely looking straps across the foot, then it goes to a full closed-in leather looking boot with a zipper...up to just above the ankle and 4 inch spike heel! What are they thinking!!!

Some kind of weird fashion statement, I guess. I like my comfortable shoes. They're actually hiking boots, because I need the extra support. I wear those things everywhere, including with an evening gown sometimes. I walk with a cane, so I figure I can get away with whatever footware I want. lol

YOu need those kinds of shoes. No problem there, just intelligence! And you are giving them to much credit, I think, to be calling them a "fashion statement". I can't figure which fashion designer wants to be known as the idiot that created open-toed boots! Maybe he is best friends with the guy that used spandex as his 'fashion statement"!!!!

Gladiator sandals - I hate them too. And you said exactly what I was thinking when I first saw open toed boots. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that is defeating the purpose.

Oh my gosh, I forgot about them last year! Gladiator sandals...looks like you have your leg strapped to a splint or something! those were really dumb too! IF you want a boot, wear a boot! What part of that do people not understand!??!?!

Easy answer. MONEY! Styles have to change so people will buy more shoes! People buy silly shoes because they're in style. Makes the world go around, I guess. Personally, I like my toes to be warm and my sandals to be strappy! LOL

Probably. I was thinking, why don't they make them at least so more can afford to buy them...and get their name and fashion out there and make money? But instead, they are so expensive only a few can afford them so no one really knows there are there! Plus...I guess there is something to be said about selling 100 pair at $500 each instead of selling 500 pair at $30 each! Although, there aren't to many out there today I would spend $30 on either, but I am still stuck in the 70's and lately they have brought that style back and I am waiting till they go on sale so I can afford to restock my shoe closet like it used to be, before I literally wore them all out!

Have you seen Lady Gaga's? Hilarious! I don't know how she doesn't fall off all the time cause she already did once. I think she got the hang on it.

I don't pay her any attention. I would say she is just stupid and doesn't have any other talent to show off so she does outrageous things to get attention. But...worse than that is the fans that watch her and buy her stuff. Nothing like rewarding stupidity! But I have heard she is out in outer space orbit. My daughter mentioned something aobut her going to the Grammys in an Egg to "hatch" at sometime in the show....I didn't watch, just was on the front page of Yahoo news next day. I chose to go relieve my self instead of reading more...seemed to be the more intelligent decision to make!!!

I am one of those that LOVE unusual shoes. I always wear heels. The fact is the last time I wore flat shoes, I sprained my ankle. I'm sure it is what you are used to. I am always looking for shoes that no one else around me has. I often succeed because there are so many out there now. I must pic some of my funkiest shoes and put under my photos. This isn't prohibited? I'm new and still learning the rules.

DOn't think it is prohibited as long as they are yours! But I love high heels...3-4 inchers. Since I was 18 I have been wearing them. Had to slow down in the last 10 years as I tripped and fell(had loafers on!) and messed up my knee so I have to be careful where I wear them. I used to wear them non stop....was years before I had a pair of tennis shoes! I even wore heels to Disneyland! Comfortable round toe, high heel shoes...love 'um!!!!
