New technique adopted by a new member

India
March 29, 2011 5:07am CST
Few days ago, I received a friend request from a lady member here, I checked her profile, she had 22 points and one discussion was started by her. Normally I don’t deny friend requests, so I added her. The very next day, I received a private message saying, ‘I have found a fresh new ptc website that offers a pioneer upgrade for free for first 1000 members. After you register you can contact them to fix your upgrade. I will be pleased if you could enroll under me:) There was a link she gave; I am not giving it and her username here for obvious reasons. When I tried to reply to this message I got the display, this member is not your friend’ This means she added me, gave this link and deleted me. My wife said she too faced this , from this member. This means she must have applied this ‘New technique’ with several members. Well there is no harm in sending a friend request, next giving a referral link, but delete one after giving the link. To me it looks a kind of cheating. Have you faced this here or something similar? Is this not cheating? Please respond, share your valued opinions. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I can't remember who started it but there was a discussion yesterday which said the same thing so does this mean that once again we have another spammer? I have not had any PMs recently of this type and overall in the four years since I joined I have not really received many at all. Maybe my avatar makes others think twice about sending them lol If a user does this then we have several choices: to respond plesantly telling them that we are not interested and to stopspamming or to just remove then from our list or to do both and report them to admin too. If enough users bring them to admin's attention then he will do something about them. He did last week with a user who had 0 activity but was sending friend requests to just about everyone. She is gone now! I am not certain that it is cheating but it is spamming and that is an undesirable practice, especially here. Mylot is for other activities and there are other, ore acceptable ways of recruiting for our sites rather than spamming

Unfortunately we do. I have the same member Professor is speaking of in my pending. Reason I feel it is the same member is because the numbers he speaks of match perfectly. In fact mysd you and I have spoken about this person. There has never been any interaction between the member and I and I get this request. I am not worried about the request but rather after viewing the activity it is troublesome.

This can certainly be counted as a kind of spamming. This kind of behaviour is specifically not allowed under the Terms of MyLot and should be reported. To report a person who does this, use the Contact link (at the bottom of the page), scroll to the bottom of the drop-down list and select 'Other'. Give MyLot all the information about the person and their behaviour. It will be dealt with quickly.

Hello my friend. This has happened to me too, and I just deleted the user and let it go. However, if a friends request from her again, I will reject it. I think it is trying to cheat the system, but in my mind these sort of users are only creating themselves some bad karma and it will be a learning process for them when they realise it. I try not to judge as I cannot know their circumstances, but it does sound like a desperate sort of practice. _Derek

I didn't experience about that, my friend. If that really happen I think we need to avoid the link she gives us. Because I'm sure the site is not good because she used scheming method...

I haven’t heard of that method of spamming. I am not so sure I would call it cheating but it is unethical and definitely against the rules. We all know spamming is not allowed here. I used to accept everyone as a friend when I first started but these days I am a lot cautious. I have two friends’ requests pending at the moment that has zero activity and I am reluctant to accept them until they appear to be contributing.

i faced similar situation but in some other way. Since i do not want to expose my friends here I am not telling the incident. But people are too clever. If they want our referral, then voluntarily they will wish us, talk to us . But once we became their downline, immediately they will ignore us. I dont think it is cheating, but selfish in nature.

Well, it might applied to me as well, but I might not aware such situation here though. Normally sent me those links saying help me to earn much more money or so, well, If I have time, I definitely going to check them out, if not, I won't bother to waste my time. So, they might as well delete my friend status from their profile after sending those links to me too.

The words I'm thinking of are not as kind as your wife used when it comes to these kinds of people. The ideas these people come up with to make their life better at our expense are too numerous to want to think about. They waste our time and my time can be spent doing better things. Maybe that's why I won't be wealthy. The other day I was researching an add for a job. It was actually a misleading attempt to get me to join an online "get rich" program. Again, waste of my time. There's lots of crooks out there wasting both our time and money!

I am sorry to hear that you were spammed. I believe I received similar requests now and then. I have since decided not to accept friends regardless of the number of posts. Come on, if we discuss in here often enough, even without adding, we already are able to acknowledge who are friends or not. So to minimize the inconvenience of spam, I guess I had to just reject. I am beginning to see less importance in adding friends. Are there any benefits in so doing? I might be missing out something?

She had to be one of those "getreferralmaniacs" who would do anything to get a new ref. Many people lose control with these things. And the incredible thing is that they do it for a few pennies!

I really don't know what the fuss is all about. Either you will take the suggestion and sign up or you don't. Why is it such a big deal? Why is all this fuss occurring? A lot of members here are into making money online and they want referrals. The only way to get referrals is to ask people. The only way to ask is through PM, the only way to PM is to be friends firstly. It's easy to say "No thanks" or just ignore. Why the nastiness? Why crucify someone with the Spammer label? Some people do like to make trouble out of nothing.

I know which member you are referring too, because I did receive a PM from this same member with the message exactly as you have described it. Like you, I normally accept any friend request that come my way, and believe me, a number of these members (especially new ones) like to send referral links via private messaging to me to try and get me to join as a referral under them on some other site. Whenever I get those private messages, I just ignore them because I do not see the benefit of joining under someone when they will get all the benefits by easily getting simple referrals while the referral (me) will have to do all the work to get my own benefits. So far, this member has not done anything further than sending that private message, so I'll leave it at that. As in your case, I think she deleted you off her friends list because I think she might have become afraid and fearful if you may ask too many questions to her, which I feel she is not ready to answer. Anyway, now that she's out of your friends list, you can breathe a sigh of relief I guess...... PS: Whenever we receive a private message with a referral link, always remember that we are NOT obliged to join under the link. The decision still lies with us whether to join it or not. The person sending the referral link has NO right whatsoever to feel angry or frustrated if we don't join under them.

Hi. Professor2010. It sounds as if this woman did kind of cheated you. It is like she sneaked her way as you accepting her friend request. And once she have, she gives you this link that is a site that she wants you to join up under her. Then once you have discovered that she is trying to spam you, you try to reply to her, she then has it set to where you can't send her a message, she will have to add you back as a friend instead. It is like cheating and she has given you something that you don't need and want. Why do people play these silly games on myLot, I will never know. It is cruel to do something like this to another member on here. She is now long gone to seek her next victim. Yes, she has cheated you. But one day she will be cheated back as well.

Hello professor. I did accept friend requests like this in the beginning when I was new to mylot. But all I got was a referal link to some site and that made me think twice about adding new friends who have not posted much or have not been very active here. Now I make it a point to read the person's discussions, replies and a little about the interests to add them as my friend. And to answer your question, no, I have not had this particular experience. But there was once a request from a person to be added as a friend and I did not have time to go through the profile at that time. But when I logged in the next day, the friend request was gone. I found it strange. Can that person not wait for even a day?
