I used to work by writing articles and would really like to be able to put this experiience into benefit by trying to work from home by wiritng articles. Could you please share any experiences and sites that ideally pay upfront. I am not inetersted in bidding for articles, it sounds too compicated and time consuming. Hope to hear your comments and suggestions :0) thanks

If I had to give a single piece of advice it would be this: be wary of revenue share sites.
While they begin with good intentions, they can lead to problems: Associated Content, for instance, last year suddenly demanded stricter criteria for publication. They can change their terms and conditions at will (pretty much) and your content is subject to their whims.
That said, there are several currently reliable sites (as other people have stated).
If you're reasonably prolific on good, popular subjects, it's often worth contacting online (and offline) magazines to see if they'll buy your content. Yes, they have staff writers but places like Reader's Digest and other big magazines need a LOT of content all the time and are often willing to pay well for copy.
One of my favourite places (which doesn't pay up-front) is Constant Content. It's a sort of marketplace where you submit your content and if people want it they buy it. Their submission guidelines are clear and not too strict, you can write about anything you feel like and you choose your own prices. I've sold a few articles on there for $10-50 a shot (almost always PLR rather than simple usage rights) - the only down-side is that it can take time for them to sell. Some authors have hundreds of articles up for grabs and, I suspect, make a nice bit of extra cash from it.

Oh, and although it's a bit dated now, there's a free beginner's guide in my profile that might be of help.

My favorite sites, in order from most favorite on, are Factoidz, Yahoo!'s Associated Content, and Bukisa. I used to love writing for eHow, but they've changed their format and are now owned by Demand Studios (although I do still get royalties from my writings there each month!)
I would recommend Associated Content if you are interested in upfront payments. You can submit articles for payment, althoguh the payment is not usually very large. It does add up. You also will get paid monthly based on page views (performance payments).
Factoidz pays monthly and they do pay a bonus for each article you write, anywhere from $0.50 to $1.50, as per my own personal experience. I prefer this site but they only accept original content. I often write a few articles here each month and then re-publish at Yahoo! Associated Content 30 days later for performance pay as per Factoidz guidelines.
Once in awhile I re-publish to Bukisa. They are a decent site and they pay monthly also.
I have been a member of each of these sites for years now. They are easy to use and reliable. I hope this has helped!

Hola,
I think that one of the greatest sites is Textbroker. They do pay upfront, and while the pay is not great, you do have a chance to make more money as you write more and prove that you can write quality articles. To be considered, they ask you to write a test article, and then if you are excepted, they start you out at a level between 2 and 5. Level 5 writers get the highest rate per word. I got to start as a 3, and as I write, and client and textbroker staff rate my articles high quality, I will move up a level, and get more money per word. They also pay twice a month. I really do like it there, it is definitely worth checking out.
Vaya con Dios,

I've been writing on Helium.com for a while now and while I am not getting rich from the articles that I've written, they have and are continuing to make changes to their site that make it more friendly for quality writers to make more money. I try to write a lot of articles for their marketplace as it is right now because of the fact that I am able to earn more by doing that.
Additionally, they also do have the residual earnings that aren't a lot of money with a small number of articles, but as you build up your arsenal you will definitely see some earnings from your articles.

i have just started writing articles myself- so my experience is limited. Most free directories do not pay you upfront. they allow you to post your link in your resource box. i know 2 that i am using that do pay you directly. one is associated content and the other is factzoid. these two also have assignments you can claim to pay you even more money.
