The Barefoot Contessa from the Food Network turned down cancer stricken kid and the Make a Wish Foundation twice! 6-year-old Enzo Pereda finally gave up and went with his second wish to swim with dolphins. I cannot believe she turned him down. Or that her busy book tour was her excuse. It makes me SICK.
Then of course the fact that she turned down an ill kid hit the internet, bad publicity..and NOW she agrees to see him. I think she should be ashamed of herself...what do you think?

You have to read the whole article. It is not that she did not want to visit the boy or have him on her set, but that her schedule did not permit it. Those schedules take up months in advance and one cannot suddenly decide that on a whim to give up a few hours when a city so many miles away is expecting you to demonstrate cooking skills or whatever. So it is not that she was a big meanie.
Oh and consider if she had decided to not go to a certain city, that she might be sued for not appearing. The only time she could make time is when she is putting together her tv show so that he can appear in one of her episodes. I suppose that is what happened.

Yes she could have, but that would have meant that she would have to make room for every request. They will say this boy with cancer was allowed, then that means that I should be allowed. And if she breaks and makes a schedule with him ;then that means the whole schedule goes out of wrack. It is not as easy as you think. If you make plans a year or so ahead, you cannot just go and tell everyone to take down the posters, and replace them, etc. ;ay the ;printers extra, etc. What was more important about this boy that has leukemia? There is more then just not taking time that is going on.

I know what you are saying, but still..this is Make A Wish. I would think that any of those things she had prescheduled would have certainly allowed her to give the child some time. Or maybe she could have brought him with her and at least be in the audiance and point him out or let him help doing something with her. There are things she could have done. NOthing is ever written in stone.

Reading the whole story, I think Ina just stuck to her schedule. She had been helping other kids like Enzo before so I don't see her intentionally taking the request down. I think she's just busy with her life and when the news broke to the public that she snubbed the kid who requested a time with her, she realized it'll make bad publicity and would ruin her reputation. Famous people need good publicity because that's like the foundation of their work. It doesn't necessarily mean that she didn't wanna meet the kid, I think she wanted to but can't because of busy schedule. I don't see it more than that.

Well, if they need publicity, didn't she think that this would give her alot of bad publicity? But she is so boring and monotone and arrogant...she probably thought no one would notice...everyone is asleep after watching her show!!! But I think celebrities are often like this...they want us to all watch, boost their ratings, buy their stuff and make them those millions...but when it comes to them coming down to our level...they don't want to be bothered.

As I've said, she might have overlooked this to be a bad publicity from the start. "Going down to our level.." well if you put it that way, yeah, you're definitely gonna think that she's being arrogant. Although there are celebrities who wished to have a normal life but now they can't. They're already well-known and they can't undo that. All they can do is move forward with their lives. Yeah, they might be earning big but there's a price for that.

I don't care for her as her shows are so boring. She is very monotone, very non-viewer relating and seems to also have some kind of arrogant attitude to her. Who the heck does she think she is? I watch several of the others, they are entertaining, interesting, knowledgable, and just nice people talking to you. But her...can't stand her or her show and just don't understand why she is still on the Network. There are so many others so much better than she.
But turning down things like that...those "upper class TV-its" feel they can..they got other viewers, no big deal. Bet she is thinking a little different now. Good grief, it was just a book signing. Seeing the child would have taken hardly any time...postpone one of the book signings or something! Frankly, I think his second choice was much better anyway. Those dolphins are much more fun and enjoyable!
intersting to see how this effect her show and ratings...

I think that this is a very unfortunate situation. I get that she has a busy planned out schedule, and that she helps other children with illness, but this boy specifically asked for her for his MakeAWish. I mean she couldn't fit him in at some point. No one can tell me that she didn't have some down time inbetween this book tour, and whatever else she was so busy with, that even if her "schedule" was to busy she couldn't have gone herself to make his wish come true. It amazes me that people can be so selfish. Honestly, how would she have felt if something would have happened to that boy, and all he ever got from her was a great big "I'm to busy". It just makes me want to shake people like that and say "Wake up! Have some compassion!" Hopefully the boy enjoys his second wish, and that Ina makes good on her promise to meet with the boy.

I think it is all about money..those people who have a lot money and they know how to make some more.. they dont want to stop they life to make somebody happy (if they are happy so why care about other people?)
it is soo sad and I hope she can look back what is going on and try to do the right thing...i whish people could love more other people(even they aren't their relatives)
the world would be much better!
love

She ain't making money from me! I never could understand why she had a show! She is not viewer friendly, she is so monotone that I loose track of what she is saying and get so bored with her boring persona. I mean, no change in her voice, she seldom smiles, she seldom talks about anything other than the specifics of what she is doing, no stories of a memory when she did this same thing years ago or any info about the ingredient she is using...all others add all this to their dialog, not only to put audio to the show, but to interest the viewers, help them learn about what they are doing, and also, why and how and all the rest. But her monotone voice (boring!) and her seldom facial expressions (ever watched Sandra Lee? That woman keeps your interest and her voice is so energetic!) turned me off. I never watch it...well, if I need a sleep inducer I might.....
