Harry Potter is a work of fiction - and the magic used in the books is fictional too. However , Rowling definitely did a lot of homework before writing the seven-book series about the boy wizard. Much of what she included in her world-building is based on actual myths, legends, and early occult writings.

Wow, I didn't know that. However, it definitely showed in her writing. The magic in the books were believable and not totally out of this world, but still wow-ed the world. It also helped that the execution of the plot was very well-done (minus the romance, but that's just me).

yes we all know, harry potter is a work of fiction. and i heard rowling's really a pagan practitioner... which is where she got inspired creating the whole series. i got hooked to the series much, i even researched things on pagan beliefs, and i think there's nothing wrong with them. they're very far from being a horrible imaged witches with a pointed hat and a broomstick to fly. anyway, the series were overall, GREAT.

I have seen in one book said that JK Rowling wrote the HP based on actual myths and so on... How she mix all those information in creating the HP are truly amazing.. it become world phenomenon right now...
