Yesterday I had Jury Duty and when I came home my cat had passed away!!! I know she was an older cat, she would have been 17 on May the 5th, R.I.P. NIKKY!! This is awful I stayed home from work today because my eyes I could not even open them this morning for all the crying I did. We had took her to the vet a few months ago and he gave us some medicine for her and at first she ate it then got to where she would.t do it anymore and he told us she was a little old lady and probably would.t make it much longer. I am so sad How long does it take not to be sad anymore?

I'm sorry to hear about you great loss. I know you knew she was getting old but it always comes as a shock but it's the circle of life. You'll always be sad but sometimes you'll be a lot less sad then others. All mylotters wish you the best in your time of need.

Aaawww, I am so very sorry about your loss. I know the pain that you're going through. I go through the same thing when I lose a beloved friend. It's been about 5 years or so since I lost, not one but both of my kitties. One passed away in July then the other in December. They were both 13 years old - litter mates. I, too, had to stay home from work. I didn't think I'd ever laugh or smile again. It took some time but I finally started to feel better. Each pet holds a special place in my heart and, no doubt your heart too. Even though there is a very painful void right now, time will help to heal your sorrow. What I found especially helpful - this is just what works for me - is to adopt another kitty. It's always going to be hard when they do pass away but the companionship and love that you get from them is well worth it. I do hope you feel much better soon. It's always O.K. to cry. I do my share of that.

Thank you. It sounds like you're on your way to recovery. If you do decide to adopt another kitty, he/she will have a wonderful home.

I am sorry to hear about your losses too, yes it is very painful but we have to move on it is part of life, The crying is not as bad as when it first happened but it does come and go and maybe later I will get another Kitty but I can't bring myself to do it now, Thank you and have a great day.

You will always miss her, I still miss my first cat and that was nearly 30 years ago I lost her. However, you will start to remember the good stuff and while you will be sad, it won't be as stabbingly painful. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your Nikky, but you had her a good long time and I'm sure she was happy during most of that time.

I'm so sorry. I know exactly how it feels to lose a little friend when you can't be there for them in their final moments. As for how long it takes to stop being sad? There is no set time. And don't let anyone tell you to "get over it, it's been long enough!" Only you can know how much & how long to grieve. You can never "replace" your friend. either, so someone telling you to just "go out & get another one" is not only rude, it is ignorant. Every pet is unique. That said, it might make you feel better if you did take in a cat in need of a good, loving home, maybe a kitten, to give it comfort & a forever home. It will have its own personality, & you'll learn to love it for its own sake. It will never make you forget Nikky--you'll always remember her!--but one day, you'll realize, in your own good time, that you can think of Nikky & smile again. And animals do go to Heaven, by the way, so think of her fondly, & realize she is no longer ill, & she waits for you! Hugs, Maggiepie

Well, if you're anything like me, some day--when you least expect it--one will come to you, & you'll fall in love all over again. It won't come until you're ready, but you'll know it when the time comes. Be at peace. Maggiepie "Deep experience is never peaceful." ~ Henry James

I miss her greatly and the crying comes and goes and she will always be in my heart and I know she is in Heaven and I will see her there along with other losses, and it will be the best thing ever, and I can not bring myself to get any other cat at this time but possibly in a few years maybe? Thank you so much and have a great day.

Oh dear friend!! I am so sad to hear this, our kitties are like our daughters. They make us laugh and cry. I use to tell my husband that your kitty grabbed the chicken some few days ago, from your fridge. I wish you could adopt a new kitty that will plain you again with full love once more. =( When I am sad I could be sad for a week. Blessings!... Dainy

I think how fast the sadness passes depends on you and your attachment to your pet. I know you posted this the other day so I hope your sadness has lessened a little bit by now.

I am sorry to hear this news. As I mentioned before I lost my thirteen year old cat last year so I relate to your pain. I still miss him but getting another kitten really helped me, not to replace the one I lost but to keep my mind occupied enough not to hurt so much for my loss. Hope you feel better soon.

you must miss your cat badly. For a cat to have lived almost 17 years, she must have lived a full life. I imagine the attachment and bond you had with the cat must be deep and meaningful. I have a 6 month old cat and already I would worry when he comes home late (Tiger stays outside when we're not home.) He likes to lay down and sleep in the garden. Sometimes, he plays and wanders off with our neighbors' cats. One time, he didn't come back overnight. I couldn't sleep! Come morning, he was meowing outside my window. I guess you can try having another cat to keep you company. No cat could ever replace the one you lost but having a cat that curls up on your lap is always a good thing...

So sorry for your loss. It's hard to put a time frame on grieving over a loss since everyone grieves differently. I lost a dog back in 99 that i had for 10 yrs he loved to be 14. I still think about that little dog and still get sad from time to time.I disagree with the 1 poster pets do become part of the family and it does hurt to lose a pet. All of my pets thought they were kids. The cat i have now I swear went through toddlerhood right along with my daughter. I was constantly telling them both to get out of stuff.

Oh bless your heart! I feel your pain and know how it hurts to lose a loved one like that. She had a good long life with you and she knew she was loved which is what matters most. Try to think of it that way, she knew she was loved and now she's free of her broken down body and is able to run again like she used to. She's in Heaven playing like a kitten again and in no pain at all. It's going to take some time to get past this but you will and when you think you can handle it, you'll get another kitten or cat and give it a loving home like you did with Nikky because you know that's what she'd want you to do. Hugs to you from Nikky!

17 is prettry old for a cat, I can't seem to get them past 15. You of course will miss her, and if you had been home there was probubly nothing you could have done. Animals who die of old age most of the time just go to sleep and never wake up. So enjoy all the wonderful memories of her life time.

How jahernandezrivas, I am sorry you cat passed away and you are sad. My sincere condolences. This was not just your cat but your baby. There really is no exact time frame because to a sense you will always be sad, it is time that will allow you to not be so sad but continue to keep your loving memory of your cat in your heart.

Sorry to hear about your cat. I know our pet a valuable member of our families. I recently had a pet pass away also. I still think about little mikoli's last day. He fell from the step a ruptured a disc in his back. Poor little guy was in pain for about 5 hours before we could get him any help. I'll be thinking of you. Best Wishes!

I'm o sorry for what happened to your cat. I hope his/her soul rest in peace. But the thing is I'm really surprised at your love for it. I have never been attached to any animal that way before. I did have a dog though when i was a kid. I loved it very much but I don't know what happened to it. After that I started to get scared of animals. I fear animals though I adore them. I like to keep my distance. I have a friend who had 3 dogs and one had to be put to sleep because it was too old and suffering a lot. She cried for many days. I really respect people who have such kind of love for their pets.
