They have nothing to add to the subject, they always seem self righteous and they never give up, They have a word for them on the internet. Trolls (or tools) It seems that they just want to boost their post count or are either having a bad day and decide that you Thread/ Discussion has all these problems with it, not their head. any one have any run in with trolls , directly or indirectly? Just wondering they are being ever more prevalent so say the statics.

I have but I just don't let it get to me. Trolls are left home alone kids with daddy's computer having nothing better to do. There are also mature trolls, but in reality they are adults who never really got to grow up in the first place. I haven't found any body to be nasty around here, yet, but if they cross the line I will let the Adms deal with them.

That good to know that this community is relatively free of them. I used to think that they were all just fat 30 year old men who liked star trek ( no offense to any one this include who is not) but I have found that I am very surprised at the people that are trolls. And you are very right, they are mainly adults that never grew up.

Sure, I've had a run in with a troll before. It happened in another person's discussion. A sweet and very innocent discussion too, I might add. This troll went around spreading ugly comments needlessly to a lot of the respondents, including me, as well as to the OP. I know I shouldn't have (and usually don't), but I commented back with comments of my own and of course the troll commented back...each time more rudely, and I fell for their trap. Although I wouldn't really say I fell for it as it was kind of fun telling him off! LOL Anyway, I had gotten a piece of advice on there from another user that I'll pass on to you. Don't feed the trolls! In other words just ignore them. They'll eventually get bored and go away. Just like the troll I encountered...that is, after people got tired of responding to him. I hope this helps. Happy mylotting!

good advice ... thank you! but what would any of you do if the "troll" didn't go away and kept posting nonsense? would you give up and leave the discussion?

We have an admin here who would see to it that they had no choice but to give up! You can see him higher up

You're referring to the comment on your topic about growing veggies? I read it and my jaw dropped. This comment came from someone who has been here for a while, so it was very surprising. It's sad when people get like that, most people just report the discussion and it gets deleted if warranted. But if you haven't, you should report that comment as being extremely belligerent and rude, it might help.

I would but others need to see it that way they have a full scope of how this person is able to act or has acted in the past. He may just be having a bad day but either way others need to see it that way it does not get taken out by the waves. Thank you very much for your support it is greatly appreciated!

I don´t pay any attention to them, because that´s what they seek. So, why bother? There are lots of good answers to our posts and a lot of good posts to comment. So that if I pick the rude one, i´m playing into their hands and having a bad time. I move on. But we can give them a minus sign.

The best bet in these situations is not to encourage them by lashing out or responding. Simply report the offensive behavior through the abuse report system (the little ! icon) and I will deal with what ever may need to be dealing with.

I encountered trolls here in myLot more than once. Just like what you said, they always seem self righteous. And they think that all of the comments are wrong except theirs. They always wants to argue even if there's nothing to argue about. Well sometimes I just ignore them but I feel irritated at times too.

Somewhat yes maybe! More of less positive. But i don't take it seriously, maybe as what you've said they're on a fight or he/she is out of rage, so i just let it pass, especially that it didn't last. And i saw your post regarding about the veggies, maybe you should contact the admins for that. Or if you want you can let it slip away, give a chance maybe? Its better be good when others are not, we get the blessings more due to that!

When I was trying to joke around a respond cause I want to help someone cheering I got a howler (as in Harry Potter's howler) aimed to my ears from another member. Whew! I guess that's troll, too.

Here is how I see behavior like this online; I do not entertain nor take part in any of it all. When I come on here to myLot I do so because I truly enjoy interacting with many members and friends, and with so much going offline why would I allow anyone online to get under my skin. So a warm welcome to you to myLot and ignore and with time they go away. If it is continual I definitely would do just like Admin says and report and they do take action. Best of luck and wish you a success with myLot!
