Cyber friends keep growing

Just recently, I was editing the phone book in my phone, of numbers I no longer needed and I realised that now I have more cyber friends than real friends. What with sites like Facebook, Msn, Mylot, etc. most people chat, message, cam or converse via the net and I seem to be following the same pattern. Even my sisters children tend to message me more via the net than over the phone now because it is cheaper. Some of the friendships I have developed over the net, I know that most of them I will never meet in person as they live all over the world. But over the course of time, I have got to know about them and their families.
Is this how friendships are going to be in the future?
What are your thoughts and have you experienced this?

yep
this is how friendship is going to be in the future
and you'll never "forget" a friend because their facebook profile will always be there to remind you of who he/ she is...
there's always the unfriend button though :D

Guess that's true, with cyber friends we can always delete and block them never having to have contact with the again. Wherea, with physical friends even when we stop being friends, due to whatever reason, there is always that chance that we are going to bump into them again and be in an awkard situation.

Well with the way technology is these days I guess it is more realistic to have more cyber friends than real in the flesh friends. I know I do. I belong to a few social sites including FaceBook and I have hundreds of cyber friends. I think it's a good thing.

Hi inertia,
I also think it is a good thing. People can learn so much about different cultures by having cyber friendships. Sometimes it is easier to talk and discuss things with an anonymous person that you have built up a connection with but will not be judged. I know that some of my cyber friends have poured their hearts out to me and told me things that they feel they couldn't discuss with someone face to face.

Hi. LeighB. It may be, especially if the demand is so evident now. Many people from all around the world are finding it more easier and useful to communicate with others as they talk about many things. It is also fun too. And of course cheaper in certain circumstances.

Hi cream,
People from all over the world are finding this is a good way for them to practice their writing in English skills and often ask me to tell them if they make a mistake and help them write better English. It is a good way for them to learn as I don't mind helping them out. And as you say it is so much cheaper than maybe, joining a private language centre or making phone calls.
