I currently own a HP laptop which i bot in jan 2008. It came with only one drive and single partition in it thats Local (C:). Couple of month ago, my Vista got corrupted. So i gave it to an System admin to reinstall Vista. But the problem was since the laptop came with one single drive partition, both the system drive and my important files wer in same C: drive.
So i asked the Admin to transfer those all files from C: (which included some system files too) to his personal Ext hard disc as all my personal files wer mixed up in C including some in desktop. I too wanted him to format the drive, Split the drive partition into two that C: and D: and Reinstall Vista in C: and Reload my old files from Ext Hard disc to (D:).
He did the exact thing as told.
I wanted to do this coz in future if my systems corrupts again. C drive will be reinstalled but my D drive will be safe and untouched..
Now my system is working fine. But the thing is, I got all my necessary personal files but those Old system files are too there in D drive which occupies almost 3GB of size.
My Question is, are these file unwanted now? And do these files dont belong to the current C drive? If i delete these files to free up space, Will it cause any problem to my current healthy C drive??
Simply, Is it safe to go ahead and delete these 3GB old system files???

I believe you must have already get the answer to your question, but nevertheless, I wanted to add something as well...As owlwings and princelierocks have answered, there is no harm in deleted those files because they have nothing to do with the new installment of your OS anymore...It is indeed safe and will not harm your computer...
But, what I wanted to emphasize here is the need to have separate partitions for your computer...It is not uncommon for this case of yours to happen to someone else, and indeed it is worse that thought...You are lucky to be able to recover all your files, because most of the time the files will be corrupted as well...My advice, make at least 2 or more preferably three partitions for your computer every time you wanted to install new OS...That way, you have one partition for OS and one empty partition to put your work files...Another partition can be used as back-up disk in case disaster struck...
Nevertheless, I am happy to hear that your computer is now alive and working...Happy MyLotting!

Yes it is safe in Deleting the System Files from the D drive as you have a fresh copy of Vista installed in your system. There would be no harm in Deleting and freeing up space for D drive. Your current operating system is working from C drive. Dont worry no issues. Its no harm in deleting.

Yes, you can safely delete all system files on D:. The system resides on C: and will not use any of the files on D: which the System Admin simply transferred as if they were data files.
