What if it happened in the US?

Imagine if some anti-government group, Weather Underground, SLA, the Tea Parties, or whatever group you personally dislike, actually obtained sufficient weapons and organization to attack the government. Imagine them actually overwhelming police forces and taking over a few cities, possibly with the support of the locals. What if the federal government fought back and tried to retake those cities and in response to that, a coalition including Venezuela, Russia, Cuba, and Iran began bombing our air defense systems, killing Americans, and weakening our ability to deal with internal AND external threats? Would you feel those countries had started a war with the US? Would you be happy that those countries were attacking us to help some anti-government militia or domestic terrorist organization? Even better, how would you feel if they started saying they were thinking about ARMING that group with better weapons to help them fight the federal government? I'm just trying to bring some perspective to the illegal war we're in right now and how things may look to the Libyans, particularly those that are not part of the rebellion. I'm also curious about how people would have felt if foreign nations attacked the north during the Civil war. Wouldn't that have been interesting?

What would happen if 1/3 of the people of the US actually fought against the US in a war with another nation... What would happen if a country (we'll say France) sent ships and troops to help the 1/3 of the people of the US who were left defending her. Oh yeah, that's exactly what happened in the Revolutionary War. What would happen if the US government started mass murdering protesters? Would YOU stand up against the government? Or would you simply allow it to happen? I think 9-11 pretty much proved that the people of the US have the weapons sufficient to organize an attack on the government. In fact, the 2nd Amendment makes it pretty clear that we're supposed to have just such and ability.

All very good questions, and I notice most who have responded are completely clueless in their responses... which is about normal for this site.

I've got to agree with jb here, Taskr, this is one LOUSY simile, not even close in my opinion! As far as it being an "illegal war", it just isn't, I'm sorry but it's not. The Senators who are crying about it now, and there are some from both parties, need to take something to improve their memories or at least pay attention to what they're voting for, sometimes from a remote location: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/2chambers/2011/03/senate_passes_libya_resolution.html They passed a unanimous resolution weeks ago and not a single Senator had an objection to it! I'm not necessarily defending this action and as I've said repeatedly if this turns into another quagmire I'll be the first one to speak out against it, but let's at least try to stick to some facts for a change! Good questions, it's always important to think about how our actions are seen from the other side(s).

good grief taskr. what on earth is fox news showing now that has you, by the sounds of that, supporting a completely demented genocidal dictator? do you honestly think that your simile is anything like what is happening in libya? i am guessing it is not your own idea (at least i hope not) - guessing either fox or some blog, but here is a reasonably unbiased source for your homework tonight: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/country_profiles/819291.stm

That would be scary. I don't think that any group in this country should be given any power that they cannot handle. Then again, I don't trust most groups in America.

Illegal or not they've decided on it and I think the times calls for it and for that it's not the U.S government who led this coalition attack it's the UN and I would not think such insurrection will occur in the U.S they're democracy their foundation on being a sovereign, I mean that will not happen I think. This United States has a different kind of structure founded under the equality of law ghadafy's so much different so much inferior.
