I've been searching high and low for this 1985 made for TV movie called deadly intentions, its a really good two part film I think it was originally released on TV by vestron, entertainment unless I'm mistaken, but anyway I really liked this film it was based on a true story and a book that was made but I'm disapointed that there are no ligitmate DVDs made of this movie
Why do you think that some films get released on DVD and others dont?

Just a hunch, but this movie was made in 1985, were DVD out then? I highly doubt it. So this is why i'm thinking this particular movie isn't made on dvd. More than likely recent and or popular movies are made to DVD or Blu-rays. I use to work at a movie theater and every movie that came through made it to DVD. There hasn't been one movie that didn't make in from my experience. So I do think all movies, recent movies makes it to DVD, but not older movies unless they were extremely popular like "lion king"

The year that a film was made dose not matter, example the film Gone with the wind was made in 1939 that was many years ago back then video and DVDs did not exist yet, but that film is on DVD, another example of an older film that's been released on DVD the King and I that film was made in 1956 but it still was released on DVD. so the year a film was made makes no difference, but thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Sometimes it just takes time and sometimes it's not going to happen. There are lots of old movies out there. Not all of them have people who care about them enough to release them on DVD. My Mom has a few old films on BETA tapes (oh yeah, if you remember that!) and she really wants to upgrade them to DVD but there aren't DVDs available. When she did a little research she found out that one of the actresses in the film had absolutely no DVDs of her old movies out, so we've come to suspect the rights got tangled up or she denied them or something. There's bit of bureaucracy involved in a re-release, it's not all about popularity and money.

Your response makes a lot of sense there is a lot of red type lol no pun intended that goes into releasing a good film on DVD its just a bit strange that in 2011 there are still so many good films that are not available on DVD. I really wanted this particular DVD too, I would have gladly paid for a good copy of it on DVD
I sure wish I could ask the people who own the film rights to please release it on DVD my mom and I really liked it, thanks for leaving a worthwhile comment thumbs up.

Well you could try writing the studio that originally produced the film, and finding some friends to write the same request in. I don't know that it would get their attention though. They get a lot of mail. lol

As allyoftherain said most of the time DVD releases are tied up with studio rights and legal rubbish Then there are certain studio such as Disney that will discontinue a movie for a few years and then re release it a few few years later (cash cow). I have been recently trying to get a copy of Tron but no joy I just hope with the new film they will do a long overdue re release. There are also tonnes of movies that I love that have not had a DVD release as yet, all we can do it hope

Hiya apples,
Would be my guess too that it all would be based on how much popularity and sales and so on. I bought a very long awaited Film in Video but now I can´t see it because there are only Dvd players.
Actually that´s two Films that I love very much to watch but I can´t get them in Dvd just yet.
Suppose that in time that will happen how long who knows?
