I was watching the news just recently, Here in the Philippines, I think one of the problems we are facing are due to the number of overseas Filipino workers… They are thousands and thousands from different countries around the world.
I know about 3 that has moved and worked in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, and know 1 who is now in the US. She started there and was granted a scholarship then was hired by the same company who sponsored her…
With this, I think all of us do know someone in our country that has moved to other countries… and why they are there? Are they out of your country for work, study, or they move because their families has moved as well?
Thanks!!

Hi chiyosan have a good day! You are right there are many Filipinos working abroad, one of them is my husband, Alex is in Sydney, Australia right now having four years working contract and he is now on his 3rd year. He will come home anytime just waiting for our interview date schedule with US embassy. We will be living soon for good, to join our other siblings and parents-in-law.

My niece went to study in Japan last year and is still there. She will probably stay for four years till she graduates, as she told us. She feels happy studying there as she loves Japanese a lot. She works very hard and has to do some part-time job for some extra money. She is doing well so far. Also one of my cousins' son has been working in America for many years after he got his doctor's degree there and he got married with a child. He has got a green card of America and is to live and work for the university for long, I guess. Take care.

Most of my batch mates and friends in school are already out of the country. They are in different countries to work. That's the only reason why they left the country, to work and hoping to have better earnings for their families.
My brother in law is also working abroad, he already have a nice work here but when a company from abroad offered him work, without second thought he grabbed it, why? because it offers him great salary and an opportunity for him and his family to live there.

I know lots of people abroad, some are relatives, some were former classmates and some were people I knew through my friends. Most of them had gone abroad for the sake of earning more money for the family. The Philippines has very little employment available and it's still one of its main problems. As a kid, I know some moms of my friends who had gone abroad to earn decent money for the whole family. And as I grow older and get to have a job, I see some of my friends and classmates going abroad as well because of the many job opportunities that other countries can offer. It's sad but this whole underemployment and lesser job situations in the country has got to be resolved as soon as possible. Sometimes, jobs are not enough and compensations are not dependable either even if you are a professional or with a Master's degree at something.

i am currently out of the country on a family visit. I'll be staying here with my son for another 2 months at least. i used to work here as well just like my husband and a bunch of my friends. employment is quite hard in the philippines and if ever you get employed, most of the time they don't pay that much in order for you to ensure that you'll have enough savings for your family's future needs. that's the reason why most people leave the country. it's not because we don't love our country, we sure do. it's just that there's not much of an alternative, i guess. i know a bunch of friends and classmates who left the country to study. i'm quite sure that most of them will return back to the country because the scholarship grants they got were all from the government. i've got a friend though who got a scholarship from a pharmaceutical company in canada. she was employed by the same company after she graduated. she's been staying there for years already. Most of the people in the US whom i know are there not only because of work but also because most of their families are there. migration has been a trend already.
As for me and my family, perhaps we'll be staying here until there's work available for us and until this place remain safe and friendly for us. we are already doing our best to save up so that when the time comes, we'll have something to bring with us when we go back home. so the time we spent here and the time we spent away from our families won't go wasted. i'm quite sure we won't be here forever. at least for me, being out of the country is just a temporary thing. i have always envisioned us settling in the philippines. retirement is best when you spend it at home don't you think? :)

My aunts and uncles are all abroad for work. Some left at a young age and started raising their families there. They didnt like it of course but they saw better opportunities and better pay in foreign countries so they opted to leave.

Hi chiyosan, I know many people from families around here are working abroad. Some prefer to work in the same countries after their higher graduation. Seems that they dislike the unfair treatment here. One of my nieces as well as a nephew work in foreign countries respectively as well. Son and daughter in law of one of my retired colleagues could hardly fit in with the needs of the workplace environment here and they shifted back to Australia finally
I know there is a great amount of people from Indonesia and Bengal work here. People from Indonesia are mostly women whereas Bengali are all men. I haven't seen any female workers from Bengal. There are quite a number of young teenage girls and boys work in the casino here.
Happy posting and have a niceday

Hi Chiyosan!.
I had two my friends study abroad. One is to get master degree there and she meet her currant husband there and now she stay abroad. While others just go for studying.
I meet many foreigner online because we had the same hobby. They are so nice and generous to teach in matters I don't know. They are Doctors and PHD but they patiently answer my stupid question. I think I am lucky having a great teacher but really humble person.

I don't think that there is anyone in my country who doesn't have a family or a friend or an acquaintance that has left overseas. I have lots of relatives and friends abroad who have immigrated, some working and some studying. I still need to see myself go overseas, just for the reason of traveling. I don't have any dream of residing abroad. Most of who I know still wants to go back home and retire. I guess, there is no place like home.

i have lots of relatives and friends who are in abroad most of them were working there and some had migrated already there. I also saw the news that there are lots of filipino from different parts of the world, and i cant believe it, there are so many of them, and if they all be here i don't think they can find work in the philippines if no one will be permitted to work abroad, i think philippines need more investor so that there will be more businesses and more employment in the philippines.

I have few relatives adn colleauges who have gone abroad. They simply have gone because of economic reasons. After my country have joined the EU over 1 milion my compatriots moved to England. It is the most popular target for emigration but it seems that the wave of emigration is weakening. On the second side hundreds of thousands people from the Eeastern Europe (mainly from Ukraine) and Asia (mainly from Vietnam and China) have arrived to Poland seeking for better job opportunities.

My uncles work outside the country. Their reasons why they chose to work abroad is because there is a high salary compensation and benefits from foreign employers. Plus the fact that their earnings are more than enough to sustain their family needs. From those excess earnings they could save to buy properties here and also help other members of their extended family whose in need. Which is a far different if they will be employed here. The salary is just enough to sustain the needs of the family and sometimes you will not be able to save from your earnings. Plus the factor that some of the jobs here are low compensated. And its hard to be a regularized worker. I remembered what my grandpa said that working here in our country pays a lot of dedication, you have to endure all negative factors to feed your family. You have to rely on your skills to earn.

Yes, indeed, many people go overseas to work. Many of my friends are there too working in different countries. They choose the countries where their professional skills are in demand. Many foreigners are working in my country here too. They are doing quite well too !

My daughter's friend just moved to Germany (I'm in the US) and my nephew is headed to Afghanastan. I had a friend who took a civilian job in Iraq for the money but he's home now... I think that's all I can think of right now --

Yes i have a lot of relatives and friends abroad. Some of them stayed there almost their whole life and just visit us once in a while. Some of them worked abroad because they believe they can find a greener pasture overseas. and will give them a better life. But it's true almost all of them have good life, they received god pay for their hard work. What happen to one country may not happen to other places, it's natural disaster that strike them and we can not prevent that to happen. It's God will.
