I've been trying to lose weight for the last 3 years yet i ended up gaining more..i have already tried the gym, diet and all other kinds of branded diet pills..i lose around 5 lbs for just a couple of days but then it goes back..i feel like i'm just wasting a lot of time and money..it usually leads me to getting frustrated..i so wanted to get back to shape and have a weight appropriate for my height of 5'4"..i badly need it since my wedding's next year..hello!!i don't want to look so big on my wedding day..aside from that,i want to become generally healthy..it's so hard to fit in a cute dress or worse wear a two-piece bathing suit..i also find being overweight so difficult for the fact that i can't stand so long because it's like i'm carrying the world with my heavy body which results to knee/leg/feet pain...
i sssooo wanted to lose weight PERMANENTLY!! please share your thoughts and tips on how to do it..i'm looking for the best way..how???

I think the most important thing is to educate the mind to begin to have control, to those difficult times when we feel like eating a little bit more just have the will power to think and really feel "I don't need this extra".
And to make the stomach smaller, and by that we might get by starting to eat less, just a little bit less this week, than we eat even less next week, little by little. All diets that are radical that begin with too much will power never go ahead.

I agree with all of the suggestions posted (except for the rice one-you do need fiber, too) Eating balanced meals and getting regular exercise is the way to go. My problem has always been portion distortion. I always feel like I'm not getting enough food. If this fits you too, try eating on a smaller plate. Then your brain thinks you're getting more than you are. You can also think T.V. dinner size portions. Those proportions are generally correct. Don't think you need to spend a lot of extra money for this--just use some common sense. Change you eating habits and you will change your weight permanently.

Excellent topic.
I've had a real weight issue for the last 15 years. As a kid and young adult I didn't have a weight problem. I'm 53-years-old and I came to realize that back then I wasn't preoccupied with food. I ate when it was time to eat. There was no eating junk in between meals.
I had something before I went to school, had lunch at school, a sandwich when I got home, supper and that was it. Same thing when I became an adult. I pretty much ate when my stomach told me it was time to eat which usually fell around the same time-table as regular meals.
Somewhere down the line as I got older and less active, I discovered food could be used as a tool for boredom, stress, little bouts of depression, celebrating when I was happy and the list goes on.
I didn't even realize I was developing a horrible habit.
When I hit 200 lbs about 8-years-ago, my blood pressure and cholesterol went up.
Over the last few years I have more trouble with my feet and about three weeks ago my right knee has started giving me a lot of trouble. I can feel it crunching and grinding and sometimes it just gives way.
Like most over-weight people, I'm going to lose weight, just not right now, later.
Well for me later is here. I have always hated that expression 'You have to make style changes' I finally realized the only thing I have to change is to stop eating like a pig and pay attention to what I'm doing, you know, be aware.
The reality is that I can eat anything I want as long as I'm not allergic to it. What I can't do is eat the whole cake until it's all gone in a day-and-a-half. My stomach wasn't made to hold more than one serving of mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm not suppose to eat three helpings of mac and cheese, four biscuits, and half a fried chicken (I'm embellishing here)and a ginormous salad bowl full of ice cream for dessert.
I would rather have a piece of fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, green beans, and a glass of sweet tea any day for supper than cottage cheese with dried tuna and a glass of water with a celery stick on the side.
Also my body wasn't made to be immobile, plopped on the couch, munching a bag of Oreos. It was created with movement in mind.
So that being said, I ordered the Total Gym the other day. I had been giving the mater a lot of thought and realized that I can make a few changes that will help me. I make sure I have plenty of fresh fruit on hand and I don't hide it in the fridge. I keep all of it out on the kitchen table. Being older I also know that I have to nibble through-out the day to keep my metabolism up and running.
I think the Total Gym will work for me because you only have to do 10 to 20 minutes a day and you don't have to lift any weights. It's set at different inclines and you use your own body weight.
I want to get the weight off my feet and knees, hopefully I'll be able to come off the blood pressure and cholesterol medication.
As an adult I don't go outside to run and play like I did when I was a kid. So I have to find other ways of getting my body to move. I know this will work for me.
I also think I'm going to find a hobby, as kids we had friends to play with, trees to climb and games. So I may decided I may need to take up something like herb gardening, or painting, corn shuck flowers making, something that will give me joy and take up time other than sitting around when I'm not at work.
Wish me luck and I wish you the best of luck too.

I lost 20 pounds just by Analyzing my week points and slightly changing them. For me it was butter olive oil and pasta. I cut back on all 3. I weighed my past before cooking and used much less butter and olive oil in my meals. 20 pounds fell off in 1 year. Now I need to loose the last 20 pounds. It will be harder.

Have your own way of diet,. Where you are comfortable enough to be your habit and make sure that you will not make yourself hungry because this will cause you to eat more. Eat on time. Drink lots of Water. Fruits to balance your meal. And no dinner just fruits.

the only secret to lose weight is to stop eating rice. try no to eat rice at all, eventually you will loose weight in a week. ive tried that one, and yet i cannot live without rice so, expected i will not lose weight, the weight that ive been working for. im on lose weight program, but still im not doing it, i do cheat on my own program,so expected that i dont loose much.

Losing weight permanently can be a difficult task to achieve,. A routine of healthy diet and exercise can help but to stay this course. yet controlling our weight is something we always need to maintain. It isn't always easy and something we can leave to chance.

Hi there, Welcome to MyLot..
In my opinion the best way to lose weight is exercising and eating a balanced diet.
If you consider about going on a diet for losing weight, it won't help. You need to eat so that you can keep on burning fat. Never skip any meals. Eat on regular intervals because if you skip your meals, your body holds on to the fat instead of burning it. But make sure you eat only healthy diet. Eating Fruits and vegetables on regular intervals can help you fill your tummy and stop feeling hungry.
Exercise is another important thing. You need to exercise every day. You do not necessarily need to go to the gym. Exercise at home, go for running once a day. Also, remain motivated; don't give up...You will get the wanted result at some stage, for sure..
Good Luck!

The best way to lose weight is to exercise. running or swimming will be the best and easiest exercise. try to start with small distance / duration and slowly increase to your comfortable level.
Second, avoid junk food. do not snacking on junk food. If feel hungry, consume vegetables or fruits instead.
I hope that helps. all the very best.

Everyone has some really great tips. One of my things is that I just don't buy junk food. DON'T go shopping hungry and stay away from food that you don't need. Buy healthy snacks like fruits and veggies. If you don't have it in your house, you won't eat it!

I lost 50 pounds in five months on a low carb diet. You can eat as much meat as you desire. Cut out all carbs except for 20 grams a day. It's not the easiest diet but it works. It's almost impossible to fail if you do it right. I suggest reading Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution to learn more.

I don't know what happened, but since late last year, my metabolism dropped tremendously and my desire to eat rose. This led to my weight increase and I have a feeling that it's still increasing.
Although I'm still in the low to medium risk range in terms of my BMI, I'm just afraid that I'd slowly inch towards the high risk. My lifestyle is a mixture of sedentary and lots of movement. But the other problem is whenever I meet clients, I sit down and have a drink or snack/lunch with them. On top of this, my hubby loves to eat at buffet restaurants. I think that is when I eat the most. I'd want to make my hubby's money worth right?
So, I'm in your position. I'd love to lose weight easily and permanently. Deep inside, I know that I just need to walk/jog it all off, on top of cutting down on my calories.
One tip I have for you is to eat fruits that helps to burn calories like pineapple. These fruits work harder in your digestive system.
