I was a voracious reader once upon a time but my interests have now changed and am into a lot of different things but those days specially when I was a kid I would read short stories which always had a 'And they lived Happily Ever After" ending, which gave a pleasant feeling that the subjects in the book after all found their happiness. I wonder whether books written today have the same flavour as today's kids would not accept anything that easily. What is your experience reading short stories now or even when you were a kid. Are your kids voracious readers?

I used to read Mills and Boon in my teens and believed every bit that was written there inasmuch as when I met my one and only I always compared him to the romantic heros in these stories and get quite het up about itnot realising that they were only stories and in real life no one drooled over their partners so much

I still like "Happily Ever After" endings as a young adult reading full-length novels. I liked happy stories when I was a kid and not much has changed. The way I see it, I don't need reminders that not everything works out for the best in life... I get those all the time just listening to friends and family! lol I have no kids myself and I'm not planning on having any for another 5 years or so, but I'll read them happy stories and get them hooked on reading when I do. I love books, and my offspring should love them too.

No matter how old we become the child in us wants to listen to only good things and when in real life it does not happen that way atleast reading these stories one gets a nice feeling. I some times wonder why even movies with a tragic ending have such demand. Look at those war movies - depicting concentration camps, etc they run for months on end. What is it that make people watch those movies or read such books!

Me too. I don't get the lure of tragedies. I like a few stories with some bittersweet endings, but overall I prefer happy endings. I like entertainment that makes me happy!

But to think of how tragedies sell is mind boggling. It sure needs a mind set to have choices and the choice to want to read and hear about tragedies does tell another story, a story about people who search for stories that have tragedies in it.

You must explain a bit about "bob ong" and "abnkakasanaplako" as I am totally ignorant. What is it all about?
