I really enjoy writing or typing what's on my mind especially in place like here, on mylot. I like doing it because it is an amazing way to just say what's on my mind, express myself, while at the same time helping me to become a smarter person since I am always correcting myself and learning new words to use. Let's not forget that it helps to increase your typing speed if you are writing online like I am now, and that is a very valuable trait in the job market now.
Before I graduated high school last year, though, I dreaded having to do any sort of writing or essays. Just because for one, I am not a good presenter and I get anxiety when having to do something in front of a crowd; and two, I don't like the thought of being assessed not just about what I wrote but rather if it followed the right format, was it enough characters or words, how many paragraphs, pages, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to look sloppy and I know no one likes reading something that looks like a big wall of text but I just never saw the use of formats like MLA that would come in handy in the real world. I never liked how they made you take English all 4 years in high school and all they really teach you is writing in this format and before that they got you ready to write in this format because it is what is used in college.
I'll admit I am pretty ignorant on the whole MLA subject and why it is used so widely but I know of any jobs that would require you to write like this unless you write analytical essays for a living... :P... What I am really trying to get at is writing in school really takes the joy out of writing and the most I did learn about writing was on one online course I took, ironically enough.
Just getting that out for now :) And I would like to know how you feel about writing and what they teach in schools. And please inform me more about the MLA format if you know anything because apparently i didn't pay attention in class when they explained why it was used.

I agree, not all people need to know MLA unless they are going to be in academia for the rest of their lives. If you are not interested in this writing, you should find a degree that suits your taste, like creative writing. I'm not sure if there are many degrees out there that will be completely free of courses that require MLA writing - but at least some will have less of it.
