Well considering Medicaid is a socialist idea, it is already more than half way done. It is a tough balance between the high costs of Medicaid due to being overweight or smoking. However, not everyone who sufferers from diabetes is overweight. There are two types of diabetes. One that can be controlled with weight/diet and the other can't be "cured" by these two methods (think childhood diabetes). Jan Brewer has to be very careful here about lumping things into a box. But then should taxpayers pay extra for people's bad habits or should the person expect to shoulder some of the responsibility for their choices? But then again, the government shouldn't be in the habit of taxing people for what they do. But since the government pays for the health care then should they ask people who need more of the system to contribute more and lessen the burden on taxpayers. It is a conundrum to say the least. There is definitely a balance issue between the civil rights aspect and a responsibility to the taxpayers to in the use of their money to support these services. This is why so many people are against socialized health care. This basically upsets the whole balance between the government and civil liberties.

Medicade was socialist by design long before this. All she's doing is the same thing many insurance companies do. Seroiusly, just look online and you'll see insurance companies raising rates for exactly the reasons you described. If you let the government provide you healthcare, you allow the government to dictate how you manage your health. Frankly, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.
