I always observed that almost all people nowadays here in the Philippines have cellphones. So much so, that even at jeepneys you could see almost everyone fiddling with their cellphones, except me and a two or 3 more.
Well, I guess they have lots of loads to spare or they are on unlimited mode.
But as for me, I only text while in a jeepney when it is so necessary. I have heard of those being robbed or snatched of their cellphones while on a jeepney so I am so cautious now.

I thought this too much fiddling of phones happens here in the Philippines only. So, it has become a habit of almost all people to fiddle with their phones, for purposes only them know.

Hi SimplyD
As mssags mentioned above, quite same here in India too. You will find such people almost everywhere- at cinema theaters, parks, museums and even at hospitals where these should not be used at all or atleast be put in the silent mode.
Good for me that I do not have this habit and I also do not venture out of my house much.
But yes, this kind of fiddling causes much irritation and inconvenience to many like us

Like you i don't have that habit too. I only use the phone whenever necessary or to answer a text or call.
People should try to use their phone properly and in appropriate places.

Well I usually don't like to use my phone when I am in a public area because of snatchers and such. But I rarely see anyone use a phone in a jeepney.

True, that's why i am so cautious in using my phone when i am on a jeepney or a public transport.
Well, at least the people in your place are not that cellphone fiddlers while on the jeepney. That's rare here in our place though.

SIMPLYD, I don't even have a cellphone. I suppose those people just like to play cute, pretending that they are busy with something when all they are doing is play some games. My daughters don't use the cellphone all the time, only when they need to send messages...

I've noticed this as well, people are always deep into their cell phones, whether they are on the bus – which this is fine I suppose, because you don't want to waste your time sitting idle. But people who are on their cellphones in social situations, on dates, at dinner at a speech even!

Well, understandably cellphones nowadays have lots of usage. Some have internet access so you could answer your emails in them.
But i think, we should choose the place where we could use our cellphone. Using them in public places where it could be snatched right away, should be with discretion.
Anyways, those teenagers are really so fond of fiddling with their cellphones. So much so, that their cellphones gets snatched.

people should learn what phone ethics are. It is rude to be fiddling on your phone , while you are having a conversation with someone. How can you concentrate on what is being discussed when you keep on fiddling with your phone.
Well, codfury, the phone seemed to be a toy for everybody, young and old alike. But old ones don't like to text , they call. Wow, older ones have class !

Haha good observatin... I noticed that too but i think its more on them trying to send a mesagge... Playing games or playng music. I do not put out my phone in public especially in jeepneys because that is susceptible to snatchers and even holdapers. I believe that you need not to tempt anyone with your personal belongings... Hehe
for me i admit that i use phone in mrt... Iplay games and play music using my phone.

The new generation cellphones or smartphones are capable of handling various tasks that is why people have more reason now to use them or as you say, fiddle with them. Young people can't seem to wait anymore till they get home to check on twitter or some other social networking sites. Phone makers have made it a point to come up with models that will enable people to do on their phones what used to be done on computers. Phones have become micro-computers. Or is it the other way around, micro-computers have become phones?
Let us just hope that technology remains a tool and not a master that will enslave its users.
Good day!

You are correct on your last line. I really hope so too. Because the more we are enslaved with our phones, the more those snatchers would like stealing them!

hello simplyd,
This is very common with young people.
But for me,nah, service providers don't earn from me that much (hahaha)
I don't put load with my cellphone everyday.
I am too lazy to text, maybe because i prefer to connect with my loved ones in internet.
I only keep my mobile phone for emergency cases, and i loved my phone camera as well (hehehe)
Yes, beware of those robbers and snatchers esp here in metro cities.

I guess, most of the people you see fiddling with their cellphone on public places are teens and young adults. Me, I only use my cellphone for emergency or if there would be things to be done that I need to instruct to my children.

Yes, most of them are teens and young adults. Whenever i see them doing that , i think of their parents from whom they ask their load allowances. It's as if they are wasting their money for things of no importance.
It's a good thing our daughter seldom asks for phone loads. She gets it from saving some of her allowance.

Mine now is a China phone, because my original Samsung cellphone was stolen . So i decided to just have a cheap phone. What i like about China phone is their being of Dual sim though. They are durable also. Mine has been for 2 years already.
Have a nice day , professor!

I guess nowsday technology advances in social networking is very strong.Everyone wants to tell everyone what they are doing and busy spying at each other.some will share picture in facebook and such.Busybody and constant twittering and sharing information and such.We have come to this area of knowledge technology when things are not more so privacy, any event can be upload and shared in the whole world throught Internet in mobile devices.

But let's face it, this advanced technology also costs a lot. I guess, internet surfing at our cellphone cost a lot.
An office mate of mine used her phone to surf the net. Unknowingly, the GPRS was put on. When the bill arrived, she was surprised to have more than PhP36,000.00 bill due to the GPRS and internet surfing. Further clarification from the network provider confirmed it.
She has to pay the excess of the PhP3000.00 plan the office gave her. She had it deducted through salary deduction for 2 years.
I guess, we should be cautious of using the various applications of our phones and not just fiddle with it without care.

Sometimes i fiddle my phone in the jeep when it is very important or I have a call that i need to answer. When i am at work i fiddle my phone because i am bored. However, i refrain to get my phone out of the bag especially when i am in a public place.
@SIMPLYD (90722)

Correct!
When in a public place or public transport, try to curb the urge to fiddle with the phone on unimportant matter. It poses a risk of being snatched by those scrupulous persons.

Correct!. Here in our country it seems like the unit of your phone denotes your status. I hate those people who show off their cellphones. I think some are fiddling into it because they join those textgroups or just to simply show off. I use it to communicate and i seldom use it if not neccesary.

True. So9me people likes to brag their cellphones. But once, it get snatched, they realize their folly of having to display it.
Like you, i use my cellphone only, when there is a need to. That way, i don't have to pay much for my loads.

Dear friend,
I have seen lots of people using cellphones in different ways. But the technology could change this soon, may more flexible options may come up according to the development in technology and lifestyle. There was time I had lots of call, now it has been reduced well down. But may lots of messages to my mobile inbox.

Well , i guess they are passing the time away so as not to get bored, those teenagers. But for older ones, i think it's of importance to do that.

I have not been taking jeepneys lately, unless i am too lazy to drive. But i found this observation true among young people nowadays. I think it's because they are busy with meeting friends or just texting with unknown person. It has become a habit to young people nowadays.
In my case i do talk to bbm friends all the time and since we have different time zones i talk to them during night time or sometimes all day. They are people from around the globe and they are interesting to talk to about so many things. They are not scary and most of them have a good job or having an executive positions. They are busy but have time to relax sometimes so i get to talk to them on their free time.

Really? When you do the bbm to friends from the other side of the globe , was the charge cheap? I guess, you can very well do that if you have the blackberry.
I am amazed at the time you spent on bbm! You are in a way just like those teenagers whiling their time away with their phones on those jeepneys.
