K I am not young anymore. But, last night I had an interesting night.
I have served in the U.S. Army and am female. all those odds always stack up on us as I listen to what people say about females in the military.
I went in the day after I turned 18. I think about it now and think wow I was young.
And now I watch our young people today and I honestly think they have it harder in the military than I did.
But with the current events and news, I have to say, I never learned to be against any religion or race.
If anything, when you enter the army you are amongst different cultures anyway because even for the states we have grown up with different foods, beliefs, etc.
But last night I really found out who I was after this terrible ordeal over the burning of the Quran.
I used to be Baptist. I say used to because I left the church for many personal reasons of my own that happened while going to this church.
But I went to a local super walmart to do grocery shopping. going in and while shopping I met a Syrian lady and her daughter. They were in their dress from their country. Her and her daughter are and were very kind. At the end of our speaking I remember telling her I was sorry for the troubles in her country and wisheed her family be safe.
We hugged.
As I checked out, I loaded my groceries in the car, and took my cart back inside which I always do.
When I turned around this really tall black man approached me.
He said hello and I said Hello sir and went on my way
This gentleman turned around and said Mam?
I turned around and said yes sir?
he had a baseball cap on and he turned out to be the OB doctor who has taken care of me and delivered my granddaughter.
he Said its me Dr Jackson.
We both laughed and of course gave each other a hug.
I chuckled at myself a little going home...thinking...Smile you are on video camera at Walmart.
If so, everyone just saw me embrace people as human beings and genuine affection for all races and creeds.
I can't imagine ever changing my life. I am still anxious to learn about other cultures for the good of humanity, and love of all people.
We may be Americans now, but someone had to come across the ocean to make us who we are so foreign blood reigns proudly in us all unless you were fortunate to come from Indian descent.
Take one minute out of your day to be kind to someone you do not know. It goes a long way in our human kindess to ourselves, our country and other countries.
I am proud to have served, and I pray every day our troops come home safely.
I think it honestly has helped me realize what a kind caring person I have been my whole life. and that I have never been afraid to offer a hello, or a hug to someone.
I just don't understand all the hatred that seems to rise out of nowhere.

Thanks skeeter!
You made my day. We read everyday and hear on the news that there is so much bad isnt it great to find out reading something good?
My mother was born from a full blooded cherokee indian. My father has french in his blood not sure of his full background. My dad never really talked about his heritage. Never thought back in the 50's to find out where everyone came from
Just loved to spend time with Grandpa in the field on his tractor or helped Grandma with her garden.
sooo...I am a hienz 57 LOL
I know I could search, but I am peaceful to see my birth certificate and know I am born in america. Thats enough for me.

Oh my goodness I hope I did not offend you using that slang discription!!!
yes I don't like the business of judging other races and cultures. In fact everywhere I go I try to learn something from them, and actually thank them for allowing me to know.

After so many years, and I'm still trying to find out who I am. In general, I can see what the type person I am, particularly when I compare myself with my parents, but as they realise that there are a lot of things within my personality, the things I do, that I am actually quite similar to them. The resemblance is uncanny and quite shocking, but it is not something you can necessarily have control over. There are a lot of good things that my parents' have passed onto me, although there are a few things that I don't want to be like and I am working at it to not be that way. I think it is not ready possible to completely know what you are unless you are constantly challenging yourself everyday to extremes to find out how you react in particular situations.

Very well said! I am going through a few personal struggles with adult children and I realize I have to let go and let god and start taking care of myself now.

It's funny that you mentioned this and that I happened to come across this page. I like to write and have spent a lot time on some of my websites (like: floridapoolbum@blogspot.com; My Lot, Twitter and Facebook). After doing some writing and reading, I realized that I, like a lot of other people haven't been as kind as I could be. It's funny that a simple concept like kindness can be overlooked and forgotten. Oh, I hold doors open for people and things like that. But what if every person took a second out of their day, everyday, to commit a random act of kindness. Liberty Mutual Insurance did a commercial about how people who witness a random act of kindness and then do a kind act to another person. This is the same idea that was portrayed in the movie, "Pay It Forward".
Please take a second to devote a minute each day to do something kind to a total stranger. It costs nothing but is so beneficial. Please check out my Facebook page and follow me on Twitter (itscooltobekind). If we could work together doing something so simple imagine how much it could change the world if every Paid It Forward. Let's work together to make the world a more pleasant place. It only takes a small step...

your story is very inspiring.. with those kind gestures extending to every race would uplift ourselves to what we really are, humans... i have always put a warm smile on my face when i am on my way to work, go to places every time, etc. and most of the time i do take time to greet {wave my hand or make friendly gestures}. being a kind caring person that you are is a remarkable and sometimes 'scarce' entity in this imperfect world...

I learned at an early age kindness and love went farther than hurt and anger.
I homeschooled my son for the final 3 years of his highschool. it was very hard for a older lady with no teaching experience for schooling. But he come out with all A's and one B every year.
So not only am I proud of him but myself to be able to learn what he needed to be taught. With that said, I was talking to his ASR (counselor) one day and I told her I was starting to read the Quran. She said WOW I did my thesis on that. She told me it is very hard to read and understand.
But I do go and read it here online so I can better understand this belief. I hope to read the Torah to.
Learning and History go a long way with understanding love and tolerance,
I also learned this when HIV/Aids first came to view in the 90's. I became an HIV/AIDS counselor all volunteer work, I worked with this horrible illness for almost 10 years. That provoked a lot of patience and kindness for differences.
I have learned a lot on my own a lot of which my parents did not ever discuss or talk about.
Thank you for your kindness and words to me.
