Plants height issues

Go the water running, now letting the clay filter out of the water before I run it back into the fish's tank. I am finding that I have some height issues, I can't have very tall plants. I have done a bit of research and found a few dwarf plants but they aren't heavy producers like I wanted, any suggest other than lst to help this little problem that faces many people. Lets find a solution, please.
