This happened some two years before when I was on vacation. My friend family were travelling together. She prefer long nails with sharp edges. I dont prefer it, just because I cant maintain it cleaning and shaping. But she believes its safe for girls especially to safe guard herself. Accidently when she was showing somthing, she raised her hand and it pricked my left eyes so badly. For 8 months I had serious pain and my eyes kept watering whenever i touch the left eyes. She cut her nails after that incident feeling so bad. But in general, growing big nails really acts as self protection or it may affect someone like me?.

I don't like long nails. it's beautiful I know but it's just I dont feel comfortable with it and it's so girly :) everytime my nails getting longer, I'll cut it. I like them short, and clean. I think growing nails is not save for some people especially who have children, it may hurt the children

Hi dznurani, you have mentioned a valid point. Well I couldnot bare the pain, how terrible if its gonna hurt kids. Can't imagine that. So you love short and clean nails, so as me. For me cleaning is big thing, I dont like unclean nails. So you confirm that long nails cannot save or act as self protect tool right?

I agree with you. This is what even I believe, short and clean nails looks nice without harming anyone. I feel even shorter nails can save and act as self protector.

I cant. My nails break off practically constantly. I wouldn't like long nails, but I would like them to be a smidge longer than they are right now. Im sorry about your eye - sometimes we dont even think about something like our own fingernails being dangerous...

Hi HansonFan, Nice to hear you dont like long nails. Yes its true long nails break off easily and its not easy to manage. After that incident, I really scared to see my friend and her nails, even she felt so bad and cut her nails. Sometimes our own nails could be dangerous! I love my short clean nails and never imagine for long nails.

Ya hearing this I really feels as it is good for the females to grow nails its a sort of protector in cases of emergencies if you don't know any skills like kunfoo, karate or marshal art.No doubt it needs so much of care to grow them and maintain them but still its a good defencer.

Hi sweety_81, Its nice to hear you that growing nails act as protector for females generally. Most of them are not learning marshal arts, so self weapon is necessary. But for that big nails is not needed rite, a medium or even small nails can someway help them. My only concern about big nails are they may harm someone. Maintaining is bit tough. You said it right!

I prefer shorter, more manageable nails. My nails can grow like crazy because of the vitamins I take. They often break once they get to a certain length though, so it's just easiest for me to keep them shorter and managed that way. It's easier to keep them clean when they're shorter too. I don't very often polish them, so that's not an issue for me. I know that it's easier to polish longer nails.

Hi Jennlk, Thats nice to hear shorter nails. The reason I ask this is, after my eye was so badly hurt by my friends long nails, I wonder why to have long nails at all? She says she can self protect herself in case of any theft or problems. Is that true?

Aawww! That hurt!
I am not a fan of long nails. It is hard to maintain. And you can easily hurt yourself or others just like in your case. Sometimes, when you scratch yourself it would leave an unsightly mark on your skin. So I am better off with it!

Hi naija4real, So you are a man and you can give me better answer. Do you feel women needs long nails which is used to self protect herself. My friend grows for that reason, not necessarily to polish them. After she pricked the eyes, I feel its dangerous to grow nails. Am I right?
