Can you not spend a dime when shopping?

I just came back from the mall. I was hoping to do some window shopping, just wanted to kill time and be out in a sunny day. As soon as I walked in one of the department stores, I knew I was in trouble, all of the summer dresses were waving at me, saying hi to me... so I couldn't resist their friendly greeting and picked up couple of dresses to try, thanks so much that I didn't I looked great in the clothes so I walked out without spending anything. I ended up buying a new shorts in another store on sale which only costs me a few bucks It was good that I got to do window shopping and did buy something. Sometimes I feel like if I don't buy anything home, I wasted my day so it was good. Sometimes when I really don't want to spend but I wnat to window shop, I find excuses to myself to not buy things and I put it down, that works. What do you think?

Oh gosh I know what you are saying because I can walk into a store and I feel like all the clothes are screaming, buy me! lol I am like you too, I absolutely will say this and that excuses so that I don't spend on things I can't afford and or need. It is nice to buy something once in awhile and nice to window shop too because that gives us a sense taking a break from the everyday routine.

That's exactly what I feel! All the clothes, and every single of them seem like saying Buy me! and you think: That's nice, I should buy it! ... so that's the way you spend all your money buying things you'll never need or use in your life!

I get used to window shopping all the while. Unless there is something very special or very attractive in term of prices, then I shall not reluctant to pay for it. Our living habit is very important in our daily role. I shall buy something I need. I shall not waste me money to buy the unnecessary things. Whatever I buy must try to be the lowest price. With this concept, I do set a good expenses budget in my daily life.

It seems to me when I least expect it or when I am not really shopping is when I find what I want....it's when I am specifically looking for something that at times I can't find a thing and don't spend any money! LOL...I usually do spend some as I rarely go shopping.....when I do I am ready to spend some money!

Hi ivy... Whenever I plan to window shop, I leave my money at home and just bring some coins for fare purposes or some little amount for snack in case I get hungry. So when I see something nice to buy, I usually buy it some other time when I already planned to shop. But window shopping is frustrating for me sometimes because when I get to see a nice shirt or anything and I didn't able to buy it, I get sad. I know I have to accept that it's mainly window shopping.

But what if when you find the good deal but you can't get it? I would be sad if so.

If it's the best deal maybe, I'll go back within an hour to buy it. But most of the time, I don't experience seeing good deals at the mall. I usually intend to shop when it's been announce that there are some SALE on SOME products. That would be a good time to shop then.

The best way not to spend your money when window shopping is not to have any money/credit card/etc with you. That's the only way I think so that it can be possible not to spend money. But there are disadvantages too, because you may found the best and bigger sale ever, and you miss it because you didn't take your money with you. That's the reason for I don't like going window shopping. If I go shopping is because I want to spend my money.

That's why I only go when I have money otherwise, I would be sad in that case

I work with kids and sometimes we just go to the mall to walk around if we're bored. If I don't bring much money, I'm a lot less liable to buy anything! I know last time we went, I just got paid.. and I bought a nice shirt and a purse! I also tend to buy the kids things like pop and other sweets..

My husband wants me to start doing our grocery shopping at Walmart. He thinks it's cheaper there. Face it, the price of EVERYTHING including groceries has gone up. But he wants me to shop there. I don't think I can get all the food products I want at Walmart. Also, my words to him were, "Do you really want me shopping at a department store? I'm going to come home with more than just groceries?" He just said I go for groceries I buy groceries. Easy for him to say. I bet he couldn't go into the store and just buy groceries. I know there has been the odd occasion when I've been shopping with the hubby and kids and seen one of them holding something that we don't need and I've told them to put it back (my kids are teenagers), but have I ever done that myself? Maybe. I can't remember anything in particular but I am sure I have had second thoughts about purchasing unnecessary things because money is so tight right now. And when it comes to clothes... I really need to lose weight so buying clothes right now is not the best idea if they aren't going to fit me a few months down the road.

I always purchase groceries that aren't planned because if there are good sales I am going to take advantage and stock up. I like clothes, sometimes purses, but keep me away from the book section!

I only do part of the shoppings at walmart for like kleenex, paper towels these things, I prefer to do food shopping at Stop & Shop(foo dsupermarket). I'm always the one that pick up something that we don't actually need when food shopping, I mean something that I wasn't plan to buy but I want to cook the ingredients anyway. When it comes to clothes shopping, it is hard, I like to shopping clothes, shoes, bags these things(What woman doesn't like), I would shop when I have some money but swtill try not to over spend.

hi mermaidivy I think a lot of us love to just window shop and not spend also we can find the things we like and at sale prices. we can come back another time with some money and buy that dress that called my name. I can window shop and spend only a small bit for a coke or soft drink bu t I will come back another day and really do some shopping as I have found what I like at prices I can afford.

Sometimes it stinks though when you don't buy it when you see it but regret later and the item will be gone by then/.

That's the cost of window shopping. You get to spend even if it's not on your budget. Me, i now make it a point to go window shopping whenever i have the budget for it and there is a need to buy it really. I know that i already have a lot of clothes and bags which i don't get to wear often because we have our uniforms, so i only buy when there is an occasion for it. That way, i get to buy those much needed things for us.

For me it doesn't work. If I just go for window shopping, I definitely end up buying something. Malls are plain evil , they make people spend money on something they may not like when they get back home. It always happens with me. I mostly don't like the stuffs when I look them when I'm home.

Ah, window shopping. One of my banes...! I know beforehand that if I take money to stores with me, I'll end up spending atleast some of it. When I go to the mall lately, I only take a few dollars with me. I can spend that on a snack and a drink, but I really can't afford anything 'nice' that I see. :) If my budget allows it, I'll take some extra money with me.

most of the time i dont go to all the sections they have in the supermarket cause if I do that, there is a huge possibility I am going to buy some stuff in those sections and will be spending more than the budget.

I try not to kill time going to the mall because I know the temptation to spend is great. I may try to window shop, but sooner or later I feel tired with it then I'll see myself finding my way to a food store. So the best thing to do, is to keep away from stores when you don't intend to buy anything at all.

When I go to the mall, I certainly go check out the stores that I normally go to see if they have anything on sale or new. I tellmyself not to spend but my wallet wants to be hang out so...

Well, for me, I definitely not easily attracted by things that on sale..Except that I really need it or else I will just do my window shopping regardless of how low the price is....

Yes, I can go in and out of stores, botiques and shops without spending anything. I often go window shopping to find out the recent fashion of clothes. I prefer to plan my purchases which fits in my financial monthly calculations.

hello their mermaidivy! usually when i go window shopping i dont bring my wallet and i nly bring enough moey for food. This is so that if ever i would like something I wont buy it immediately. It gives me time to think it over and over again. I only go to the mall when i need to buy something very important.

The temptations fashion stores provide is so immense that i end up buying something even if i don't want to. At times, I promise myself that it is just a casual visit and make sure i don't carry any credit cards with me. But unfortunately, i come back the other day and get whatever i want...lol
