Moments of weakness

Last night, I don't know what got over me, but I gave in to my cravings. I had rice, barbecue, fried spring rolls, hotdog and green mangoes! I don't feel guilty but I'm kind of disappointed because I've cheated on my diet. The old me would have felt really bad and berate my self for it, but my new self says, it's okay, we'll make it up with more runs tomorrow. And I did, I ran an extra lap today.
So, when faced with these moments you feel vulnerable to a temptation, or to just slack off, or to doing something not really good, do you give in to your weakness? And if you do give in, what do you do afterwards? Any specific example?

I've been in the same situation. I was on a diet but I couldn't help myself when I saw this pepperoni pizza my brother ordered. I gave in to my cravings. It felt wrong afterwards, of course, but I still ate too much after that. I guess I just don't take it seriously.

Well, I would still get tempted to buy food if I lived alone so that won't work for me. I'm glad it works for you, though.

I guess it's alright to give in. The problem is you ate too much after that. It's really hard to resist when you're very near appetizing food. Fortunately I live alone now so I don't get tempted by anyone else's food.

in terms of doing anything i want, i usually don't deprive myself for whatever makes me happy, i do everything i wanted even if it spoil my health or even my diet, or even if its too dangerous i will still do it... and in your case, no need to be disappointed because the moment your doing what you crave for a long time i guess it was worth it all. plus i agree that there are many tomorrows to do extra workout and continue your diet.

Yes, you're right, there are many more tomorrows. Just need to be really disciplined until May because my friend is getting married and I'm in the wedding entourage. But, I did make up for giving in.

whoah, in that case you'd better stick with your diet, especially when you already have the dress, you will spoil your gown if your body structure change. but after the wedding, eat as much as you can, no more wedding entourage to think about

No dress yet, but they've already taken my measurements. But, I promised that this getting healthier thing is not just for the wedding but so that I could be healthy for the rest of my life. It just so happens that I need an immediate fix for the wedding, but, after the wedding, I'll still try to be disciplined in my diet and exercise. Lots of life-threatening diseases run in the family, and I'm starting to show symptoms to some. It may be a bit late for me, but not really late because I can still do something about it.

It is completely normal to loose our control. This has happened several times and I stop being consicious for a while and start eating whatever have been craving to! I do not have any health disorders and hence feel that I am too young to bring about a diet control. I convince myself saying, 'If not now, then never!'.
I prefer enjoying my life as we never know what is waiting for us in the future. For instance, I love sweets and I do have it whenever I get a chance. Who know, if I am victim of diabetes in the future, I will never be able to rejoice this moment! But of course, I do a little workout to just eliminate the extra calories that I would have accumulated.
By the way, this is a real, good discussion.

ha ha! In that case what you do is right!!
Even I drink lot of water to dispose those toxins. Additionally, I have started drinking hot water after lunch or having anything. While years back I used to have all junk foods and drink cold water, making harm to my body!

Thanks! Well, I've already enjoyed my time of "If not now, then never!" so I'm starting to clean up my habits now. But, yes, once in a while, I still indulge in what I like to eat. But, I make up with exercising or drinking lots of water.

Hot water, right. I read some articles that it's better to take hot water, instead of cold, especially after an oily meal. Maybe that is the secret of the tea drinkers - they drink their tea hot with their meals. Maybe that adds to the reasons why they live long lives.

i dont worry. i just eat what i eat. no will power so i gave up diets some time ago. i find if i dont obsess about it, i dont gain weight. but my son does the same as you. if he eats to much of the fat foods, he runs and exersizes.

You are so fortunate to be able to eat what you want to eat. If I'd do that, I'd be food comatose for a month! I love food and could just eat and eat and eat! So I have to really put restraints on my self or else. But, yes, I can't be vigilant all the time, so the time I do give in to my cravings, I make up with exercise.

Yes, you're right. We must rise against our weakness everyday. It becomes our daily battle against our weakness. Eventually, we'll be able to ovecome it.

Yes, it can't be helped. It's part of our human nature. All we can do is to try to contain it. Thanks for your response!

I had made arrangements to have coffee with a friend I have not seen in awhile. We had a piece of rich pie each. That was the middle of the afternoon. I did not eat supper but had some toast and cereal for a late snack. I will walk more or do more tomorrow, but if you are really craving something you might as well eat it, because otherwise you will eat everything else that is around and take in even more calories.

Yes, that's right. I've also learned to not be guilty after eating food. A friend told me that we shouldn't be guilty for eating that, but instead, we thank God for that blessing instead. In my country, many people go hungry everyday, and to have something to buy a little food is something we should be thankful for.

I just started my diet, so I have yet to be tempted. I hope temptation stays away from me. I am doing the dieting gradually though, when it is drastic, the more I will not succeed. I walk whenever I can, to make the metabolism work right for me. And I drink lots of water.

You would discover eventually that food becomes more tempting when you're in a diet. Sometimes, it's true what they say, forbidden is more exciting. But, I hope you do well in your diet, too. And, yes, drinking lots of water is good!

I don't think that there is something wrong when we succumb to our weaknesses from time to time. At least this kind of weakness.
When you crave, our body is giving us a signal that it is missing some nutrients or chemicals that it needs to function well. So, a moment of indulging to such craving will not do you any harm but rather good.
Well, you seemed to enjoy it and you paid your due after. So, do not regret anf feel sorry about what you did. You only are doing this occasionally and not regularly. :)

I have, indeed enjoyed it, and not felt guilty one bit. And, yes, I too had made up for it, so I think all is well. This is part of the new me - to not dwell on something I'd done in the past, but to think of what to do about it in the future. And, you're right about the body giving us signals when we have cravings.

Nothing wrong with giving in from time to time. The way I see it if we deprive for way too long then we give in one day and will not know when to stop. As you I do the same if I find I over do one day I put in extra workout the next.
Life is about enjoyment so onward my friend and enjoy from time to time.

Yes, it is! And depriving one's self is sometimes more disastrous. Reminds me of Johnny Depp's Chocolat where the mayor gorged on all those wonderful chocolates after telling his people for a long time that they were sinful! But, yes, I do make up with exercise or drinking lots of water.

It is okay to give in to temptation once in a while, gloryacam. But make sure that it does not become a habit and you go back to your old ways of eating unhealthy or with too many calories. And since you made sure that you got the extra exercise, you have balanced it out. I personally don't count the calories, it is too much counting for me, but watch what I eat nowadays and make sure I do indulge myself once in a while. Because, if I deprive myself of what I crave for, then it might become too much one fine day and I might start stuffing myself with unhealthy food for days together. So, it is okay once in a while.

You're right. We must be careful of giving in a little too much because it might lead back to the old habits. Wow, thanks for a wonderful insight!

I guess it wouldn't do harm to eat a little of a craving sometime. Just a little discline would be needed so you won't be eating more than necessary. I have a similar problem - I eat a lot at night. But, I'm trying every day. Two of my friends are getting married and I'm in the wedding ceremony. I'd like to look nice in the pictures. Have a nice day, too!

No, I didn't beat my self up for that. I tackled it head on and said, I'd increase my runs tomorrow. And this morning, I really did run an extra lap, and felt better. I guess, yah, I needed that break.
