I am from India! Here we get biscuits and Cookies in departmental stores and other places where from we can procure the food items. Often I wonder why these known with different names when they look and have similarities with each other? Having referred few sites I came to know that In US and Canada these baked products are known as cookies which are other wise known as Biscuits in UK and other parts of Europe! In Scot land Cookie is a type of bread! Now please help me to understand the difference between Cookies and Biscuits! Your rsponse will be highly appreciated! Thanks !

Well in the U.S biscuits and cookies are quite different.Usually cookies are designed to be sweeter and crunchier then biscuits and eaten for snacks. While biscuits tend to be served with meals and much softer. Its different in every state i guess

Hi Dear Kirinx! Now,I understand in US biscuit is exclusively used for the edible things which are prepared pou of flour and they are softer and mainly eaten as meals. While cookies are hard baked products which are sweet in taste and crunchier in texture! But however in India we use biscuits as snacks and they are bit harder and may have sweet or salty taste! Thanks for responding!

I think cookies are sweeter. Biscuits are just a little sweeter then bread. I like them both but it depends on what I am craving.

Biscuit, from the French for twice baked, is a more general term of which Cookie is but one type. A biscuit is normally flatter and harder than a cookie which is more crumbly and floury in texture. all the best urban

Hi Dear urbandekay! You mean all cookies are biscuits but biscuits are not cookies! You feel cookies are special biscuits which are more crumbly and floury in texture!! May be you are right! I too feel the same, as the Cookies are Crumbly and bit softer than biscuits! Thanks for responding!

I am not quite sure whether it is because of the language difference. But here we think that the cookies are round, and they are mainly made by butter. They are sweet. Whereas the biscuits have different shapes and there are also sweet or salty flavors. They are made by the flour. I love China

Hi Dear Youless! May be you are right! May be it is the language difference that these things are called so. Yes agreed that Cookies are round and made of butter and they are sweet too.But these thing are seen in the biscuits too. I have seen cookies in various shapes too like in the shape of Heart, star etc. I believe both are made up of flour only, No? Well let us see if I can get any real difference between the two by any expert on this forum! Thanks for the response!

Hi Dear Anna! It seems you are also confused like me, I too often ask many people about this and get some vague answers and when I want to discuss on this topic then they would plainly say that - they have no further idea about the topic! LOL! Thanks for responding!
