Do you talk yourself with gestures?

Hi friends, People those who talk themselves are considered as mad, is it? They may talk loudly and we don’t listen or give any attention to them. Here I am not talking about those people but about the normal people only. Many of us are talking to ourselves knowingly or unknowingly but with gestures, it is rarely happens. I know some people do some gestures while talking on phone, they just engrossed on the conversation and forget about the surroundings. Today I noticed in bus, a gentle man, in his middle age, is doing many gestures with his hands and I seen that his lips also moving, but no voice is heard. I guessed he is on conversation with somebody in his mind. May be on some serious issue and he forget that he is traveling in bus and people are watching him. Making gestures while conversing directly is very common, and it helps to the listener to understand the concept easily. But on phone, it is unnecessary but people do it as habitual. In case of talking alone with gestures is somewhat strange for me. What is your thinking? Do you fall in any of this category, I mean talking with gestures, talking with gestures on phone or talking yourself? Do you know people who follow this habit? Please share.

Hello bhaby, I am aware about the problem, when I start the topic I succeeded and this topic left without any response for long time. I too tried to post replies to other topics but could not. Finally in the evening I could do something. The problems existed for almost six days, the problem occurred within a particular time in a day, not for the whole day. About the topic, it happens with you when you tried to memorize something. Thanks for sharing dear. Thanks for the special efforts to post reply to me even though there was a glitch.

Hi Dear Sreekala! Yes, I know a person who does such funny gestures when he is stressed or confused when the things are not acting as per his plans at day to day routine! That is none other than me! When I don't get proper results or some thing unexpected I wonder where I have gone wrong and while trying to get to the core of the reason many a times I use lot of funny gestures and console myself that there is nothing to worry and I will reach the point where I have gone wrong and things will be get settled soon! I know that I am doing such silly gestures but this thing helps me in getting my problem solved and there is no embarrassment aspect also as I am doing it when I am all alone! !! Thanks for your light , funny but serious discussion!

Well, after coming back from vacation I have got lot of back log work, so I am unable to concentrate on this site because of this. Now with this BR of yours I will try to rejoin this forum as early as possible to have some fun and frolic! Thanks again for every thing!

Hello Rao, So you do it when you are alone, I agree there is no embarrassment as we can do anything if nobody around. (At least others won’t get a chance to think, is he become mad). I am trying to recollect where I did anything like in my life, can’t recollect anything now. But I think I too must have done anything like that for sure. Thank you so much Rao, have a nice time.

You are welcome Rao, I am glad to know that I could make your day. I am sorry to know the demise of your relative, is it a natural one? We just can't predict anything in our life. Hope you will be back to mylot very soon with you regular activities. My vacation went well and kids are ready to rejoin the school from 4th of this (Monday), starting the stresses once again. Take care, see you soon.

hello dear sis, Talking on the phone,i always did (oh my hahahaa) Well, when i am giving instruction on the other line,i can't help acting gestures. It's easier for me to give the instruction that way...(okay i am also looking at the device/mobile phone on my screen) and, doing the same thing that as i am giving my instruction. Like if i say on the other line ,push this button, i am doing the same thing with my screen (my team mates do the same thing) Or i might say...people in the call center do a lot of gestures while on the phone But...no my dear sister...i never did when i am in public (hehehe) I can talk to myself in my mind...not making any gestures or saying a word. Nice to see you again dear sis...have a great day :) note: should be at least the first to post my comment here, but mylot got some problem this afternoon (sad)...now i'm late (sad again)

Hello dear sister, I am so glad to know that you also want the first position in my topic. Unfortunately there was some glitch in mylot and today only the glitch is over (for a particular time on everyday). Regarding the topic, I am imagining in my mind, your speaking on phone and talks to others with gestures (lol). Thankfully you are not doing the same in public. I am grateful to that person, who did gestures in bus and gives me a topic for discussion. Is your sister smart enough?

Hi sree didi Well, When I am at home, I do the self talk sometimes to cut away on the loneliness but otherwise, I do not feel the need. For the cellphone talk, I rarely speak loud but yes, I had read that many people have some great mannerisms when it comes to talking on cellphones - Some shout, some walk and some even start scratching their head

I think my eyes have a tendency to do gestures unknowingly. I do catch myself gesturing and try to stop it because they can easily be read. I suppose I do so because I somehow find the situation before me odd. But I don't speak loud on phones and or gesture intentionally though. lol

I used to do it all the time earlier...so much that my husband would tease me saying that the best way to get me to shut up is to hold my hands...lol But I don't think I do it anymore....and I find it funny when my sister does it. She does it a lot less than I did...but I still tease her about it.Fortunately, she was young enough to not remember that I was worse than she is...lol I'm sure that I probably would move my hands even when I was on the phone...it was so much of a habit that I never realized what I was doing.

Hi Sree, do you or others mean people who talk themselves are considered to be mad so I'm included as well...I talk myself sometimes in the public but in a rather decent way. This usually would happen after receiving good news from sms. I don't mind how people around look me for I really can't help saying something or cheering when I'm elated. Seems that you are quite lonely when riding on bus, this enable you to have leisure time to observe whatever that interests you lol... I'm glad that at least there's live show with so many "attractive" actions and gestures to amuse your monotonous time lol... I don't want to be the limelight in the public therefore I'm very alert when I talk on my cellphone. Or you may see different expressions shown depending on what I'm talking about then, but absolutely there isn't any inflated gestures for sure. Happy posting and have a niceday my dear

Hello my dear, First of all I have not said that the self talking people are mad. However I said those who talk loudly, with actions, in public place may be mad. I know many people are talking self but with gestures is very rare. On phone calls, many are forgetting that they are in public place and talk like the way they often do. Only a third person may feel it as funny, the talker may not be aware about his/her gestures. In my travel to office and back, I am alone most of the time, so I can observe the co-travellers and enjoy the free time. Thank you so much for the reply dear. Take care and have a lovely time.

Dear Sree, It is known that words gone out and arrow shot from a bow is unable to withdraw. I feel some talking are not to say until we get the right person and gestures have lots of meaning than words as a gesture with good intention can be misjudged. Moreover, if someone who do not get the right person to talk that may lead to talk to oneself according to the emotions prevailing then. Moreover some talking may not be better to heard by others as it could create problems or misjudgments. Hence I feel that talking to oneself and gesturing oneself could give that person much of mental relief rather keeping it inside and busting in an inappropriate situation or wrong person.

Hi Sham, You mean, the person does not get the right person to talk and just want to venture of his/her emotions so do self talking. I am not sure about the psychology behind this talk and gestures may be you are right. Thanks for sharing your views Have a nice time.

If you're an Italian, it is something that comes naturally...Italians always talk with gesture. Tourist finds it funny, but after staying in italy for a day or two they begin to realise it si a good way to speak to Italians expecially when you do not speak their language and it makes friends fater with the locals.

Hello bellis, It is very natural to do gestures while talking on phone or direct conversations. In direct conversation it (gestures) won’t consider as an unusual thing but on phone those who watch on us may feel strange. Good you don’t do gestures while self talking. Thank you very much for sharing. Have a great time.

I can talk myself by sitting in front of the mirror, it will improves the communication skills, and we have to re check our speaking way. If any mistakes occurs in our way of talking, in the way of thinking then we can simply change by facial expressions, it is the great advantage and a simple technique.

Hello Sree, Firstly, how are you? Its been long time. Hope everything is fine. What about your kid? Got any admissions? Now coming to the gestures! lol! I'm one such person who talks to myself more than how much i talk to others! But, i don't make any gestures when i'm out of the house. I make sure that I'm in control of my thoughts and gestures. Other than that most of the time I keep speaking to myself, argue with myself on so many things! Sometimes I even feel like I'm two persons arguing on a single issue! It helps me decide things fast and a good decision is taken most of the times! Good day! Enjoy your weekend! Have fun!

Fact is most people do talk to themselves, some even realize it while they are doing so. Everyone has had that moment when a sudden thought occurs that causes a verbal response, forget something and suddenly remember?...'Oh darn!' can often be heard by those nearby. We humans are social animals, we almost need the sound of a human voice, ever notice how people will speak to their pets? As for the gestures, often it helps the thought process, almost as though one is pulling words forth or expanding a concept. We depend a lot on body language to get our points across and that dependence doesn't differentiate between phone conversations vs one and one conversations or even conversations with ourselves.

Hi Sree! Good Morning! I talk in my mind to myself before enacting anything. I discuss the pros and cons in my mind and then go for it. Sometimes, I am lead by my heart and sometimes it is my mind which wins. I do not make gestures while talking to myself and I remain very cautious at public places. I have seen many people making gestures while talking on phone (and if you could recall, I posted a discussion on this subject some months ago). I feel there is nothing wrong in talking to oneself, provided the other person should not come to know that one is talking to himself/herself. What about you? Do you talk to yourself with gestures? Have a nice day! dpk

Hello Deepak, Yes, I remember about your topic well. Now I am bit confused, I think the thinking and talking is different. We think in our mind a lot before taking some decision and you are saying you talk in your mind. But talks with our own... For me, I think I am not making any gestures but another person can observe and tell the same clearly. Thank you for making me confused. Have a great time

Hello jazel, Two days ago I seen a man who was busy on phone but his both hands were free and were busy with gestures (he was using the ear phones, mobile was in pocket and his hand were free). First I thought he is mad on talking so loudly in public place along with gestures. But reaching close to him he is quite normal and deeply engrossed on talks though phone and forget about the surrounding. When I read you rise the hand, I remember this incident, he was also doing the same way. It means all people are doing the gestures knowingly or unknowingly. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a nice day.

Hello Sreekala, :) I don't think those people are mad in anyway. Maybe they just like time with themselves, like lost in some other world thinking about someone or feeling like talking to someone. Oh, that guy in the bus, he was probably going to give some presentation at his office and maybe he was only rehearsing in the bus ? It could be many things, you know. :) I don't do that gesture thing but yes sometimes i do talk to myself. I can't control my eyes when i talk to myself though. They seem to be making some sort of expressions at times and something like gesturing, although i feel quite uncomfortable and funny when somebody sees me gesturing with the eyes ! Hey that wasn't meant for anyone, i was only thinking *i would shout in my mind!* hehe.. If any girl would do that with her eyes, i would find it cute, i don't know why.

This would be common when we are mostly very involved in our conversation may be through phones or direct face to face to anyone. A habit is what many would think this is and well yes it is. An expression, a fact or any kind of emotions that we go through during talking the gestures come up form many. This not only satisfies the person doing but at times makes us feel something wrong when we could see him, else when its over the phone, there's nothing the listener can feel or see. But the others who would be watching the person talking would surely predict this as hat person's lack of speech or something like disorder. Among my friends too there are some who make lots of facial expressions during their conversations but with all that we find their talks pretty interesting and amusing.

Hello tintukm, Well said. People who are on talk wanted to communicate or express their feelings in a right way and they do use some gestures to communicate properly. Now one face flashes in my mind, the actions and talks of one person, who is an earlier Indian cricketer, presently seen in TV by discussing about the IPL players everyday. I think you must aware about the person if you are watching cricket. Actions speak louder… Thank you so much for sharing your views. Have a great time.

Hello Cherish, Here I met a different person. All are saying that they do actions on talks. I too like you, I can't recollect if I did anything like that. I think I have to observe myself more. Laughing in public place, I did that too, when remembering some funny incidents which happened at home or some jokes, then trying my best to control the laugh in public place. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great time.
