Will you be vocal while watching TV?

I have observed that my daughter gives a running commentary when she is watching any program on the television. And she enjoys the time she spends in front of the tv very much. She laughs aloud and keeps shouting at the baddies who try to bash up the good guys etc. She very much gets into the story and gets so involved with it. My husband watched the cricket world cup finals too the same way. Whistling, clapping, swearing and what not! I am a very quiet person and watch television the same way. Quietly. Everyone in my family is the same. We do watch with my dad, but it is more like a discussion and then maybe a few comments. And a disappointed feeling when it does not go well or the way we expected it to go. But this is the first time in my entire life that I got to see people shout and swear and whistle and be so vocal when watching a match or even a movie.

I rarely am vocal while watching TV. I'm most of the time way too focused on what is actually going on, instead of talking about it.
In the rare cases where I don't know what's going on though, I'd atleast wait till the right time before I open my mouth and talk through it. :p I'm not really fond of watching a show and not understanding what's going on because someone else is talking so loudly, that I can't follow the show properly anymore. :x It's a lot less annoying when there are subtitles, but most of the shows I watch don't have them in the first place. ^^

Hi omgmewmewcat. My sentiments exactly! Most of the time I am too engrossed in what is going on that I don't feel like talking and disturbing the flow. It does annoy me sometimes when my husband keeps yelling and clapping and what not. But I do not say anything.
I do love it and enjoy it when my daughter does it. She does look so sweet and I would rather look at her than watch tv then.

I do make commentary while watching TV, depending on what I am watching though. I do not scream and yell more like Ooh and aah if it is a regular TV show. lol
I have from time to time even while alone voiced to the program things like oh no now why?? Still if it is a movie and or show I don't believe I have yelled out.
If I watch one of my favorite IL teams playing oh yes I will get into it a great deal and shout YEAH!! NO!! COME ON NOW! It is what makes the game so much more fun. Most of the people I do watch sports games with do the same. I think we do so because we are so into the fun of the sport. It is very common in my environment for people to shout out in glee and or disappointment while watching sports.

Hi HWG. Ooh and aah? As I said I am a person who watches tv quietly, no matter what is being played there. I do get tensed when a match is going on but I do not contribute vocally. I rather watch it with full concentration and will not notice it even if it is raining gold and diamonds inside my house. Literally! The same applies with movies and other programes. I do comment once in a while but it is more to myself than to anyone else.
We sisters watch sports with my dad(no other go because he will not change the channel and we have nothing else to do) but as I said, all of us watched tv quietly or discussed it among ourselves but have never shouted or cursed or done anything like that. Guess is runs in the family.

I may gasp or squeal when something really shocking happens, but otherwise I'm not that vocal. And I'll cheer for award shows. My mom, on the other hand, is very vocal. It's one reason I enjoy watching tv with her. She's very entertaining. Of course, it helps if I've already seen the program, and then I don't miss what's happening on screen. Or if I'm not very invested in what's going on. But, it's funny to have her give a running commentary and talk about the characters, and shriek with laughter when she thinks something is funny on the tv.

Sorry for the late response. My daughter is like your mother and keeps giving a running commentary when we watch television. It is of course very amusing to see her do that. Just hope she outgrows it.

Hi Professor. I am guilty of shedding tears when I watch some movie or a scene which is very moving. But that is the extent of my reaction. I am not vocal at all while watching tv. I just close my eyes when I have to watch a horror movie along with my husband. News channels are something which we watch daily, or rather, my husband watches daily.

I am very vocal when I watch TV... My parents and I exchange comments about what we are watching while it going on and I do react sometimes when the protagonist is being dumb, or the killer is behind her or something. And of course I laugh aloud when watching comedy films, I just can't contain myself when watching shows..I get so into it too.

Wow. So many people like my daughter! So I do not have to worry about her behaviour then. When and if I watch a thriller or horror movies, I just get so tensed that I cannot sit in my seat, literally! I either close my eyes or run out of that place and come back after some time to see what has happened. I do not watch such movies alone anyway and always have someone there to watch it for me and tell me the story later on(mostly my husband).

I am not a vocal person while I'm watching a show in television or a movie. Because if I do that, I will not understand what I watching. I like watching in quiet environment, where all I can hear is the sounds that comes from movie. If our house is full of people and very noisy, I will not continue to watch the movie but rather watch it when their is a no people around in the house.

Hi axlrate. I am exactly like you and would always like to watch in a quiet environment and get annoyed when am disturbed. But watching tv with my daughter and husband is a pain and both are so vocal that sometimes I just let them be and get out of that place!

I’m usually a mixed type. If I’m watching a very serious show and I know that I don’t want to miss any commentary, then I’ll usually not talk at all and if anybody is talking in the room, I just ask them to shut up. Then again if I’m watching a cricket match or something exciting, then I shout at the top of my voice at relevant moments. Then again, if I’m watching the news, I like to discuss it with others who are watching it with me.

Hi Sudipta. I comment and discuss only when I feel like sharing something and not all the time. And I definitely watch very quietly. Mostly the comments are there in my thoughts and I never voice them.

Okay, I confess that I do that to some extent. I'm female, but I like watching sports. (American) football and baseball are my favorite sports. If I see a referee or an umpire make what I think is a bad call, I'll yell at the television. Or if a guy is close to scoring a run I'll start yelling encouragement, not that he can even hear me! lol But my sister on the other hand...When we are watching a TV drama or something, she'll do a running commentary like your daughter. I don't see my sister as much anymore because she lives 3 hours away. But when I do, I can count on little comments about each character and what she would do if she were in such and such situation that is being shown in the TV show. It's either funny or annoying (if I'm trying to pay attention and she keeps interrupting).

Hi AmbiePam. That is exactly what I am talking about. But getting annoyed with my daughter is rare because when I do chide her for interupting, she either gets all big eyed and tearful or comes straight to me and scolds me back. Either way, I have to apologise for peace to prevail at home and allow her to continue viewing her program with her usual comments. Sigh!

I am often watch quietly but sometimes i get too involve in what i am watching i would just like laugh or cry just mostly show emotion showing that i was moved by the film or a show. I never recalled that i swear or something i might say some few comments when i am not satisfied but i would not ruin it for the other viewers

Hi Oasis. That is exactly how I watch too. But the way these both behave gets me annoyed and I sometimes loose the intrest in watching the program and keep watching their antics. At least my daughter looks cute whatever she does.

Hahahaha i am like that! i am talking or talking to myself that is when i am watching tv or even watchign a movie. I tend to discuss the movie with myself..or with my husband and he gets annoyed but he got used to it hahaha I could remember watching Lord of the Rings with him and i was like talking nonstop about it hahaha because i was dicussing the events and why and sort of things like that. It was also this way when we watched Harry Potter! hahahaha!

I cannot imagine watching a movie that way with anybody! But my daughter and husband do not behave this way when we go out to the theatre to watch a movie. My daughter does comment and dance for the songs but she does not disturb us. She enjoys going to movies.

I can usually be quiet unless something is going on to unnerve me. My son is very much the opposite. he can't keep quiet during an entire program or movie. he always has something to say. i often wonder if he is even comprehending what is going on.

Hi sender. I am the type who watches the program with much concentration and will not even blink. But my daughter is just the opposite. She does get very much involved in the story and what is happening and I wonder too if she knows what she is doing.

Well, your daughter got it from her dad. When they will watch a movie and there are other people around, I am sure that some people will call their attention. It is okay to do that in your own place, but in other places where there are other people who will be annoyed, you will need to call their attention.

Hi Cutie. They rarely do it out when others are there like in a movie theatre. But my daughter does that there too but she does not disturb anyone. She just comments using the right volume so that it is heard only by me and my husband. And he watches the movie quietly when he comes out with us.

Hi Dunner. I do get annoyed sometimes with my husband the way he shouts while watching matches. With the whistles and shouting, I was hoping that the neighbours will not call the police and get him arrested for noise late at night! But I love to watch my daughter do that. But sometimes, when I am so engrossed in the program, her comments fall on deaf ears and that gets her annoyed
