So it is that time of year when we gardeners bring a little earth into the house and start some seedlings in a sunny window. So far my three types of tomatoes, cherry, Roma, and yellow pear are all sprouting. As well as my eggplants, bell peppers, pumpkins, zucchinis, moon squash and cucumbers two types a yellow lemon cuke and a pickling cuke. I plan to go to the market to buy some seed potatoes as we did them for the first time last year and think we will forever more do so. I am thinking of doing white, red skin and maybe a sweet potato if I can find them. I also have seeds for Ruby red sweet corn yes it's red! White sweet corn, stars and moon watermelon, mixed radishes, mixed lettuces and butternut squash. Already in the ground are the turnips and spring onions, keeping my fingers crossed that they are OK as they are near the heat of the house and hardy. Anyone else out there started or about to start their seeds?: Whatcha going to plant? Trying anything for the first time? Oh I do love to garden and cannot wait to get my hands in the dirt!

It seems that you have a big piece of land, friend. It is my turn to envy now, because we are sterting Autumn here and I don´t know if there are any crops I could have this season. We´ll see. Meanwhile have fun with yours and keep us posted.

i usually do some quick seeds in fall such as lettuces, radishes and turnips. We have a little more then an acre so I can have a nice size garden. I also fruit scape. Instead of evergreens and other shrubbery I have fruit plants such as blueberries, chocolate trumpets, honeyberry etc.

hi there =) i've been planting for about a year now. i like flowering plants a lot! i've tried red & pink roses, euphorbias, zinnias, and other flowers that i really dont know the name (my neighbors just gave it to me). and now im trying to grow orchids and hopefully they'll bloom soon. i dont know what fertilizers to use for them to bloom faster. i just water them everyday and hoping they don't die. i also have tomatoes, eggplants, some onions, and this week i'll try to plant garlic and carrots too =) happy gardening to us!

clean your egg shells real well and crush along the bottom of your plants. Coffee grounds too are good. The rich minerals in them will help replenish the soil.

Yup... my hands are dirty. :) We started peas and potatoes outside yesterday and will get the turnips and beets in soon. I have tiny onion plants from seed in the house and peppers and tomatoes. I usually direct sow squash and corn, but have been thinking of starting squash in the house this year to give it a quicker start. Lettuce and radishes will go in a container this year to save space for other things. My biggest problem is not having enough room to grow everything I want to. I grew okra last year, so I'll use the room this year for other things. I grew dry beans last year but didn't have enough to last the winter so I want to grow more of them.. and on and on.

Yes I know how space can be an issue. I plant beans, squash and gourds along the fences in the yard. This way they look cool and have some place to grow up over. I have lettuce going in a flower box on the inside of a sunny window all the time for salad and one for herbs. I love fresh herbs. I started the squashes and pumpkins inside this year to get a head start.

there is still a little bit of snow on the ground here (it is left from the piles that they made when we had our last snow storm about 3 weeks ago) and although the temperature is supposed to reach 20 C (70 F) on sunday, it still just a tiny bit too early to start seeds here yet (at least i think so) but my daughter and will be going out with in the next week or so to get some sunflower seeds to start.

Oh it is too cold here to start anything out side besides hardy onions. I have mine started in a sunny window to be healthy young plants by the end of MAy when they can go outside. Ooh I can't wait!

My family loves to garden. My sister has only a 5 foot by 8 foot balcony and it is covered in flower pots full of veggie plants, herbs and flowers. It sorta looks like a little green house hanging off the side of her condo.

I planted the pea into the garden already because they are not scared of the cold so a few cold nights should be fine. I started eggplant indoor - a new try, I didn't do eggplant last year hopefully it will grow here. I want to plant italian squash as well because I love them. I planted too many kinds last year and some of them ended up didn't grow very well because there was enough space for the root to spread out, I'm going to plant less this year and see what happens. One more thing is I have ground hogs and rabbits around my garden, hopefully, I can catch them and not need to worry about having them to wipe out my garden.

Yes we too have rabbits and ground hogs but the cat and dogs keep them at bay. I was hoping to put in some lettuce and radish this weekend but glad I didn't as they would have been washed away in all this rain.

Hello OpinionatedLady! I live in a tropical country, so it doesn't matter when to star gardening because we have no threat from the frost here . However, I do start gardening again after not touching the dirt for more than 5 years. We finally bout our first house and it has a space where I can use to grow my plants. It not big, but we can work for it. I have started hollyhock seeds and thinned them. Now I have 2 healthy seedings and they grow vigorously. I love hollyhock, they're tall and so pretty. My mango tree seems to catch a growth spurth, it bears a lot of new stems and leaves. It's still pretty immature to bear fruit though. My sapodilla tree is bearing its fruits and it looks like it is not going to stop soon because I keep on seeing new fruit buds popping out. It is so sweet and definitely a treat! The last but not least, last week we bought carnation, rose and chrysanthemum plants. The mums is fragrant, and when it's rainy, the mist brings the fragrance into our house, it's very relaxing. My Carnation flowers like crazy and I don't want them to stop! I also ordered gladiolus bulbs online, and they will arrive anytime now. can't wait to plant them! I'm planning to turn my gardening space into a cutting garden where I have unlimited supply for cut flowers for my house.

Oh that would be nice. I planted many bulbs in the fall here. Tulips and daffodils, iris and lilies or many colors and types. I also put in blueberry, black berry and honey berry and chocolate trumpets in. I have seeds for sunflowers, snapdragons, mums and zinnias! Good luck to your garden it sounds wonderful!
