Have you ever heard of Mr. Nicanor Parra?

Heres a translation of his poem: YOU KNOW what happened while I was kneeling in front of the cross looking at His wounds? He smiled at me and winked! before I thought He didn’t ever laugh: but now yeah I believe for real I've only discovered him by internet but the way his poems go just put a smile on my face. He is certainly an inspiration for poet wanna-bes. What do you think of his work?

I not only have heard of Nicanor Parra, but I have known him personally since I was little as he was one os my late father´s closest friends. As I am a writer, I can appreciate better what he has written. Besides, poetry is better read in its original language. I find his antipoemas inspiring and fel that he was a pioneer in my country in a kind of poetry that while is not easy to write, it´s easy to understand.

@cowboyofhell It´s not that simple. My country is a small one. And I am not "anybody" here. In every country, whether they talk about it or not, there are classes, many of them as difficult to enter as the castes in India. The intellectual class is a minority in every country. They stick together. I probably wouldn´t have started playing at the computer if I didnt need isolation because I was in chemo.

Ok, point taken. I said so because each time I ask a question, there will always be someone who knew the answer and because one lone person can tell you anything you need to know it's as if you asked anyone the answers.

Great. I thought no one personally knew him here. Just proves anyone knows anybody.

Hola, I just now saw this discussion and glad I found it. I do love to read Mr. Parra's works. I think that almost all of them that I have read have left me thinking "what the heck" or just left me wondering about the real meaning behind some of them. Some of his stuff is straight and to the point though. He has some really good ones that are called EcoPoems. They are all about earth, and it's condition. Thanks for reminding me of this great writer! Vaya con Dios, Acongojada

I have with me several poems from what the web can provide. Those were called antipoems. I became sort of rectified after reading each one.. I will next search about other poets from the list I've got..

@cowboyofhell I have been meaning to go and visit him. He is not living in Santiago anymore and I haven´t seen him for a long time. But I have heard his health is wonderful in spite of his age.

There is a philosophical thought in this poem.

That's natural, he's also a mathematician.
