Hi!I have bought many books last year, but only finished two or three of them. I wondered that how much time every day would spend on reading? one hours or two ? If you are very busy, how much time would you spend? I spend too much time on my way to work and to go home, do you think it is necessary for me to buy something like kindle?

Why would it be necessary to buy a kindle? Books are already portable.
I carry a book with me wherever I go. I take public transit so I can usually get about 1 or 2 hours of reading in just from sitting and waiting for the train and then on the train, and back again. I also tend to read whenever I get a spare minute during the day... if I have to wait, or if the computer's being slow.
I hate eReaders too. I think the very idea is a crime against bookishness.

Ever tried a little book light? I don't carry one with me at all times because the light is usually good at the train stations and on the trains, but I have one at home for when it gets dark. They're very handy.
I like choosing books in bookstores too. And I want bookstores to continue, so I'm fighting eReaders tooth and nail. If eBooks were the standard, then you'd never get to own a small bookstore of your own because they would be no bookstores.

because on my way work or home, I take public transport and the light in the bus is not very suitablt for reading. The light is too weak ~ my eyes always feel uncomfortable even I only take 10 mins on reading in bus.
actically I take a book with me every day....I like the feeling that choosing books in bookstore ~ my dream is to own a small book store~hehe

I don't like kindles. I like how books smell, call me old fashioned, but my eye are fuc$% up enough as it is, the last thing I want is a kindle to read my books. I am very busy most of the time, I set aside a few hours, say two hours to read before going to bed, or on my way home while I wait for the subway to arrive.

I enjoy spending as much time as my brain will let me. Sometimes its only 20 minutes. Sometimes its a couple hours. The longer i can read the more relaxed in the book i get. Sometimes i have to do a quick read though to see whats coming up next. Im impatient lol.

I would gladly spend 10 hours with a book I really really like! i think I spent more than that reading Harry Potter.
If I am busy, I would maybe spend only one hour, that is the time I spend before sleeping.
Kindle is good to buy and read ebooks, also it is more convenient. But it would not really affect the time you spend with the book. You're still reading after all. I would recommend it only if you can read the ebook while commuting.

all depends on ur interest on the book. if u want a book very badly and after some struggle/work u got the book, u'll read the book at one go - again depends on the pages!! but if its a small/medium size book, u definitely won't get ur hands off it. i remember when i started reading "the old man and the sea", it got me so deep and i couldn't get my hands off it. i read it at one go.

It really depends on the book. If the book is a hardback it will take longer because I won't go out with hardbacks. I prefer paperbacks and it is easier to read a paperback while read walking since it is just lighter. I probably average four books a month but it depends on the length of the book. Some books just move faster than others while others take longer to get into. But if I can't read more than a few pages at time of a certain book I'll just put it aside. Sometimes going back to a book at a later time helps since I've had that happen where I couldn't get into a book at first but later was able to.

Hi,
if you want to buy a Kindle for the poor light on your way home, you should know that e-readers have a kind of monitor that is not backlit and usually it looks a little bit grey (such as some types of books with darker paper) so you need the same external light you need with a normal book.
The iPad, having an LCD monitor, is backlit, but its price is high and if you're not a strong reader you shouldn't spent money on something you won't use that much. And also is not recommended for your eyes to read on an LCD with poor external light for too much time.

It depends on how interesting i find the book. Most books i can usually read for at least a solid hour or two, though if i don't particularly like the book i can only force out a few sporadic minutes a day.
On the other hand I have been known to spend the entire day reading if I have found a particularly fascinating book.

Well this may be an awkward answer but I really am not sure how much time I spent on a book. When I get into the reading I lost track of time. If I have no other things to do and my mind is not distracted by other things I could finish half of a book around 300 pages in one seating. I just read books whenever I want to and I do not set a regular basis like an our a day, and so those other routinal stuff.
If you are traveling on safe public places well a kindle is a good thing as you can see larger texts compared to as reading a typical book, plus the vehicle could be movey and it could be bad to your eyes if you read small texts. Plus, it's very portable and easy to carry. :)

Hi doublelifefish,
Good for you for wanting to read. I myself am an avid reader.
What I would say is definitely read on your way to and from work - a kindle is a lovely tool to have because you can load multiple things onto it - this way if you don't like what you're reading or need something a little lighter or more suitable to your mood on a certain day, it's there for you and your bag isn't any heavier because of it.
I also set aside time to read before bed - even just 20 minutes. It's doing something for myself, which I love, and it kind of allows me to decompress from the day.
Good luck!
