Yesterday I got chatting to an older couple. They said that they traveled to all the faraway destinations when they were young and now they are older they are seeing nearby places. Their next trip is going to be to Italy.
By comparison I saw nearby places first because I had limited money and needed to travel very much on a budget. I traveled to Greece at age 14 with my mom, to the Netherlands in a friend at 17 and traveled around Europe by train when I was 18 years old. Then at 19 years old I began going further away like to Tunisia and St Lucia in the Caribbean.
I traveled to Sydney in Australia when I was 20 years old and it is my favorite city out of all the cities I have been to in the world. I was told that it I loved Sydney I would also like San Francisco, Cape Town and Vancouver. I was able to visit San Francisco when I was 29 years old, Cape Town when I was 36 years old and Vancouver when I was 37 years old. I was able to celebrate my 38th birthday in Canada.
Have you been to a country nearby?
Have you been to any faraway countries?
How old were you when you went on your first trip?
Where is your favorite place that you have been to?

I think Italy comes close as one of my favourite places but, I also loved what I saw of Thailand and I loved the state of California of which I would love to go back too. I guess there are so many more places I have yet to fall in love with!

I can understand why the old couple took that route. When we are young, we have more energy and hence can travel further away. When we are old, it makes more sense to travel to nearby countries. If it was the reverse, I am sure the old couple might not go travelling because of many reasons associated with aging.

Hi maximax8, really nice to know that you had visited so many beautiful countries in your young age. You are a fortunate woman In my childhood I was extremely happy if having the chances to visit beaches and hill resorts in the nearby states. I especially enjoyed to have all kinds of activities at the beach.
The first foreign country I had visited was my neighbor country, Singapore. It was located in the South of my nation. I had paid my visit to that same country for more than ten times due to my work then. Later I visited Thailand as well as the some of its adjacent countries. Really glad to learn the different lifestyles of people living in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
To escape from the scorchers, my husband and I had spent our three respective winter vacations in China since 2001. I loved the cold weather there as well as the foods and natural landscapes. My husband never felt bored to linger in historical sites where there were countless of antiques for him to appreciate and study We had a relaxing three weeks stay during each vacation.
I visited Taiwan and Hong Kong in year 2000. Turkey was the farthest country I had visited in 2009. My good friends and I had an unforgettable winter vacation in Hokkaido in Japan in 2009. Fortunate that we had paid our visit there earlier before the dreadful earthquake and tsunami. My friends and I plan to visit another Asian country where the weather is cold for this coming Nov.
Happy posting

My first trip was when I was 18. I traveled to Puerto Rico by myself to visit family there. Since then I have traveled to New Mexico and lived there for 3 years. I also took a cruise to the bahamas and have traveled to only other states within the United States. My favorite though would have to be Puerto Rico due to the beautiful weather year round. This is why I decided to move here permanantly last year and I love it.

Hi Maxine,
I have been to many places but, as I see now at mylot, I have never gone to the other side of the world. The farthest that I have been is Europe. Now I wish I could visit Asia And I would also like so see some parts of Africa. I am not sure that I can say what has been my favorite place. Maybe Ciudad de México. I feel there as if I was in my own country. And many times I have said that I´d love to live there if I did not live in my own city. I have gone to Ciudad de México, the biggest city in the world, many times and it´s too little. There´s always something new to see.

I began to travel as a young adult because it was not until then that I could afford to. I have been to several far and nearby destinations ranging from Illinois, Las Vegas, Tennessee, West Hollywood California, Kentucky, England, and Puerto Rico. I am looking forward to visiting Paris someday and still have several near by destinations.
I am not able to travel anytime soon but have not given up hope to do so someday.
