I don't agree completely. Nowadays there are cartoons that are not suitable for children to watch like for example The Family Guy and South Park.
When I was a kid, I like to watch "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home". I like to watch it because we can learn many things from that series.
I do agree that watching too much cartoons on TV will harm children's eyes, though.

Yes there are cartoon which are matured one but there are good knowledgeable cartoon show too. Guardian should take care of it which should be watched by their children and also cartoon maker should be responsible to aware of the fact that its made for kids who cannot judge good or bad.

Hi and welcome to myLot.
I believe that cartoons in moderation and the right kind of cartoon programs can be very beneficial for children and adults as well.
I'm a kid at heart. I love animation - I love laughter and all that other kid stuff. These things are what keeps me young even though my birth certificate has something else to say.
Anyhow, I recently found an adorable show on PBS kids. It's called Dinasour Train. Not only is it fun but it's also very educational. I love the show myself. I think kids would love it and also learn as well.

Hi. housamazmi. Welcome to myLot! Yes, cartoons helps kids learn better. Especially if the cartoons are very positive and promotes education skills effectively. While the child should only look at cartoons for only two hours, this will help them to learn much more better too.

Cartoons bring out the creative side of kids which is very important. So there is no harm in watching cartoons.
However,it is also not good to watch TV for a long time no matter what u watch.

It is our responsibility as parents to regulate the shows our kids watch. Some cartoons have good lessons that children could learn from. Some have violent scenes that we should be aware of. We don’t have to use TV to baby sit our kids. Too much exposure to TV isn’t good for our kids. It could cause obesity and short span of attention. It is best to have other activities that he can do to divert his attention from TV like playing board games or engage them in sports, arts and craft.

No I do not agree! It is just a fun time time for children to watch. It cannot teach the spelling, grammar(???) or any of the other 3 Rs

I feel that if the cartoons are educational, it helps the child. However, if the child is addicted to the cartoons such that he ignores other areas of his life, I think it is unhealthy. The child may learn something good but it is actually a bad thing if the child is addicted to it.

hi housamazmi No I sure do not. instead they should be reading storybooks and getting outside and playing. they are still children and childrn learn best from doing things not from silly cartoons for hours and hou rs. they should be only for entertainment and not for long periods. reading is much better for teaching children and playing with others
also is a teaching thing;. let them be kids while they are kids.
cartoons do not teach anything good, just for laughs thats all.

There are advantages and disadvantages to watching cartoons, it just depends on what cartoons they watch. So parents should always take note of what their kids watch, so they know if the show is ding them hard or not- not all cartoons are bad, some have good stories and morals too. But kids should not only watch cartoons all the time, since as you've said, it can harm their eyes.

Most of the people believe watching cartoon can make the children to be more creative.
When the children are interested in watching cartoon, they can learn the language easily too.
However, we should control the period the children watch the cartoon.
Watching too long of cartoon within a day will let the children neglecting other activities they are supposed to have in their growing stage.
With the latest technology, the LCD, LED, Plasma or the Projected Screen can reduce the harmfulness for the children to watch movies.

It depends if the cartoon is used as tool for learning because if it is then the approach is interesting and fun to grasp easily.

Yes certain cartoon are quite entertaiment and education for children like those Bobs and the builders,Maya, postman and many more, however, maybe sure the child expose to tv at a good distance to prevent eye injuries and tv shows is for limited time only and not staring at the tv whole day which will rot their brain, made sure there are outdoor actitivies also.Don not allow them to watch violent cartoon like Tom and Jerry.

In the 50's through 70's most kids were lucky if there was a TV. When Walt Disney brought out a movie it stayed in the theater for months not weeks. In the late 70's through early 90's I felt we had much better cartoon and children shows than we do now. My children usually went out and played after school. We put in an above ground pool as they got older and I had a hot tub set into our deck and they liked water and those activities over TV when home. We did not have a TV in every room for every child, Saturday mornings were usually known as Cartoon Mornings for kids on tv. Every thing from Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse, Yogi Bear, Tweety, etc.
Cartoons that were a lot funnier and simpler to a child to laugh and not have to learn a lot all the time. Maybe that generation was the last to actually be kids before they started school.
But mainly my children would play outside and we had a boat for most of their lives so we did a lot of family things and sometimes we took a special weekend to enjoy a day in the springs. I centered everything around my children so they had memories of their childhood.
So I guess my children did not watch as much TV and cartoons back then to keep them occupied. I was to busy enjoying them myself.
