Crows’ meeting

India
April 9, 2011 7:08am CST
Last night I couldn’t sleep well, had pain all over body. I got up at 6am, when I went to open the main gate as usual, because the maid servants comes any time between 6.30 am to 8am; I heard loud cawing of crows. I was surprised because crows are not seen for past several, all trees, their shelter were cut in the name of widening of roads and modernization of city. These crows were cawing and wandering above roof of 3 storey building in front of my house, so I went our roof top, from there I saw, what appeared to me as a meeting of the crows, one crow was sitting on the centre, several around him and many were flying above. Wish I could have taken a picture, but I didn’t carry my cell phone, I don’t have the strength to go down, come back with my camera lol. Crows are harmless birds, they eat insects, dead rats, left over foods, keep our environment clean. We have a faith, if a craw caws in your courtyard early morning, some guest is coming to your home, get ready to welcome… But this unusual meeting on somebody’s roof is not considered good, my mom used to say. Do you have crows in your place? Have you witness any such meeting or something similar? Please respond. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Heee nice after reading your word uncle crows meeting and near my house daily they gathered and annoying loudly. I feel irritated from their voice. Our house is in forest side so all birds and animals came there. Sparrow, crows, pets, cats, donky, snake etc. Yes unusual meeting is not good and if they annoy again and again then old age persons said some new guest will came in our home.

There are a lot of crows around here, but I can truthfully admit to the fact that I have never seen a crow's meeting like what you've talked about here. With that said, so far this spring I've seen a lot of huge groups of birds flying around when we are going somewhere. I have reason to believe because of that this coming summer is probably going to be a very hot summer to rival the very cold winter that we've just experienced.

There is a lot of folklore and stories around my area about crows. Of course there is folklore and legend around here about everything I have never heard the one about the guests coming to visit though. I bet that was a sight.

Yes there are crows where I live. Not so much in the city but I see more outside of the city! Never witnessed a crow gathering like you did! Your story reminds me of the Hitchcok movie called "the Birds"! There is one sceen when the people are leaving a house and all you see is crows in all the trees watching them! That movie was scary!

Hi Prof! Actually, I haven't seen a crow in real life, just in movies and pictures. I am living in the city so it is quite impossible to see one here unless of course, there are people who have them as pets. But I remember old folks said that crows in your rooftops or surrounding vicinities bring bad luck, I don't know if it's true.

There is a little difference between your knowledge and mine: During my childhood time, I was told that if there is magpie, not a crow, in your yard, there will be a guest coming to your family.

I love crows, I think they are fascinating birds. I wouldn't be worried about them congregating on the roof like that. You're right about all the foods they like to eat. Try to get a photo next time my friend.
