well here it is 5am. I slept from 2 am. to 4 am. woke up to go to bathroom, then had my shoulder start up hurting. then son had turned on the heat because believe it or not its 46 degrees here in AZ!! but in my little room to hot. So I cant roll around and get more comfy, cause of my shoulder. Decided to go ahead and take an Excedrin. but then started worrying my stomach would get bad again over to much of such things. Laid there thinking about that. then suddenly the thought of John when his stomach cancer got bad how I had went to the hospital and he wouldnt let anyone bath and dress him except me at first. and one time I had just gotten him cleaned and fresh when he vomited all over. My mind said dont go there, but it was to late. It went there anyway. !! So, that did it. had to get up then. Has your mind ever wondered to such awful things when you told it not to? nows not the time. So, I got up. Turned down the heat and now here Iam with Coco, sitting here comforting me and son had gotten up asking was I ok.He went back to bed when I said yes, as soon as this pill kicks in. lol. So, here Iam getting comfort from writing my friends here. I wonder why our minds go to such dark places at night when we cant sleep. Do you do that to? then get up to get comfort with something? Im fine now. the pill is kicking in !YAY!! LOL!

I think Oreacookie had some good advice, and then another thing to do is to try to get some sunshine during the day to help reset your clock. For the pain, have you tried any topical ointments that have capsaicin in them? It feels rather warmish to the skin but it helps with the pain. I have also taken cloth bags of rice (like fill an old sock) and heated them in the microwave to put on aches and pains. You can also put them in the freezer for cold packs. It is sometimes hard to get just right comfortable when you have an injury.

Good morning Bon, sorry it didn't work for u. U may have to get your dr. to give u something stronger for the pain. I know people are leary of taking pain meds but i take them every day. Wish i didn't have to but i do. I think where people get in trouble w/them is not taking them as they are prescribed.Hope u feel better. HUGS.
gg, GOOD MORNING. u GAVE HER SOME GOOD IDEAS.

Yes, when I am trying to fall asleep my mind wanders to things that disturb me too. Sometimes if hubby is still awake I will get him to talk me through it. He's not really that good at it, but he attempts to strike up a conversation about something that might get my mind off the disturbing things. Once or twice I've actually woken him up to help me through it.. but lately the disturbing thoughts have been coming more and more frequently.. like I'm constantly thinking about them. I try to daydream about something else to get my mind off it.. like I envision a life of luxury where I'm a super star with loads of money and a celebrity boyfriend or something, LOL.

Usually if I am having bad dreams or even just weird dreams it is a sign that I am coming down with something, or that I ate something that did not sit well. I also have some "anniversaries" that cause me dreams, and I do not even realize it at first.

If I get woke up(usually have to go potty but can make it through the night)Not being able to move and get comfortable could drive a person buggy. I think our minds go to these places just like we dream about weird stuff. Just happens that way. I have a problem with weird thoughts. Especially if I have something nerve racking coming up. And if I have to use my brain for anything if I get woke up then usually I can't go back to sleep. Like my phone call from my granddaughter and her upset the other day.

My thoughts often keep me up at night. SOmetimes it is me just listing all the things I need to get done the next day. Other times something I have read or seen on TV. All too often it has something to do with family and worry over how they will be safe. All my life my thoughts have kept me up. Until I moved in with my husband I would listen to music to fall asleep to. COncentrate on something else would help me sleep. My husband cannot sleep with the radio on and I had to learn how to fall asleep with out it. There are some nights though where he deals with the music because he knows I am too upset to sleep with out it.

i used to be able to sleep by listening to music. for some reason as i got older, it now keeps me awake. sometimes listening to a story on my cd player will do it.

That would be the same as reading for me. I would get so involved in the story I would just read/listen all night long!

I have serious insomnia so whether I sleep in the day or at night I do that. I get up to the bathroom, hear something and can't sleep, see something and can't sleep, think and can't sleep... I get cold when I get up so I have to warm up to sleep, the phone wakes me. The weirdest is no matter how asleep I am if somebody sneaks in my room for something I bolt up in bed. If I really can't sleep, I hit the benadryl. In the meantime, I do the same. Hop online to chat and check e-mails. I figure if I really really can't sleep, why just sit around when I can be doing something till I crash?!

i to have always been plagued with insomnia. and when you are sick or in pain its the worse. especially when rest is what you really need. so like you i figure i might as well get up and do something till i cant stay awake.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's not a fun thing to have. I figured I'd do the same thing. So I took on the graveyard shift. I figured if I have to be awake I may as well earn money doing it. lol

Sad to say, the only thing that keeps me up at night is TV programs. Most of the nights I stayed glued to the TV box the moment I step into the house after work. It is only 2 hours past midnight that I am in bed. A solid 4-6 hours of tv programs, as if I am working for the tv station.

you know my cousin does that and it usually puts him to sleep in front of the tv. if i had a good chair or bed it probably would me to in front of tv. now, sometimes if the pains not to bad, my audio books do the job.

I too have a very painful shoulder that is the result of an old injury and it always seems to get worse at night. I am a therapist myself and have to follow my own advice to my clients!
When my shoulder keeps me awake, the best method I have found is to lay back in bed, focus on the pain and my breathing and imagine that I breath into the pain. For a while it seems to get worse, but the more I feel the pain, the harder I focus on breathing into it, deeper and deeper right into the seat of the pain in the joints. Suddenly it starts to get better and as I let go of my focus on it, I follow my breaths in and out, and usualy then fall asleep. It is not a cure, because the damage is there with me permanently, but it supports me in transcending the discomfort. I also practice daily meditation and have a link in my profile to more information on this. _Derek

wow. sounds like you are one of those people that knows how to release pain through thinking it away. ive heard of that but dont think my mind is that strong. i have tried but it seldom works. it works better to ignore and think of other things, but sometimes that doesnt either.

Hi bunnny~ I hate to say it, but I was doing pretty much the same
thing last night. I've been having some very serious health issues.
(stomach-bowel) and am very scared too and my mind does wander
there! It goes to the deepest, darkest, scariest places
possible. I can't go to my Doc's until after May 1, when my Medicare
kicks in. I have had Insurance issues, thanks to NYS Disability Laws
that suck and if I am really sick-I should sue the State Of NY for
keeping me from getting the care that I needed for 2 years! So, I
sit up, here in fact, many long nights-actually sometimes all night.
I'm here if you want to talk. You have my email addy-feel free to
use it anytime. Love ya, Les

Night time does seem to be the time when the darkness surrounding us nurtures the darkest thoughts, isn't it? Sort of like being happy when surrounded by smiling people...only the opposite.
I used to get up and read during these episodes, and Tukay always got up, too. Kindred spirit, she was. This week getting up was harder, but I forced my mind to wander over happier times.

I use to have terrible trouble sleeping when I was on the birth control pill. I guess something about the hormones gave me nightmares. I also can't sleep when I've had a strong cup of coffee during the day. That's an obvious one, but I still find it interesting because I find that right before I'm about to fall asleep, I get a sense of paranoia, sort of like when you become alert although the body is still paralyzed in its sleep state. Have you ever had that?
Maybe your mind is telling you not to sleep because it is more awake than the rest of your body.

Sometimes when I wake up at night it's very troubling to fall asleep again. Yeah, I sometimes think about stuff, or more like worry about stuff. I dunno, maybe it's just because of lack of sleep or something but I tend to be like that whenever I wake up prematurely.

I believe life in general causes a lot of us to simply think and wonder. Way too much going at one time. I too have days where I cannot sleep and sometimes wonder why on earth I think too much.
I do hope you can get some rest, if not hope myLotting is helping to exhaust a bit so that you can soon take a nap.

I really don't like having flashbacks of unwanted memories, when I thought of a thing that happened in the past, however good it is, will eventually branch out to other things which are not good, making it worse.
On the other hand, I don't sleep at night (normally), I sleep at day. I like to work on a silent night far from all those distractions in the morning like hearing someone prepare on the kitchen, cleaning the house, the sound of the television, and many other normal things at daylight that are too disturbing.

Things that keeps me awake at night are my phone, laptop, and camera! I dunno.. Since I got this laptop I started to sleep late, like 1 or 2 AM... and my other gadgets thing..
Before I go to sleep, I keep using and playing with them and when I'm using it, I can't sleep anymore.

My head is activated at the time when I'm on the bed. There's everything dark and silent so make it easy think, and I start to think about hundreds of things: things that had happened me during that day, things that have worried me like why I can't find a job, other things that I remember I have to do, or thinking in a person, so then, so I take my phone and I start to listen some music to keep myself relaxed, and I'm starting to being sleepy, but when I stop the music my head starts to think again, and I can't sleep again, and I can be like that almost until 3 am...
I wish I could sleep more..
