Shutdown Averted, But What If?

We all know the government shutdown has been averted... for now.
IF it had happened, how would it had affected your personal life? Or would it have had any affect?
I live in Virginia (close to the DC metro area) and although many people work in civil service, I don't, so the furloughs would not have had any impact on me.
No, I would have been pissed more for selfish reasons (I admit it). I hike in Shenandoah National Park and I visit the historic sites like the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park quite often. In fact, I was just at both last week. To see all that shut down would have been sad.
I guess the tourists and local vendors in DC for the cherry blossoms are breathing a sigh of relief. The monuments, museums like the Smithsonian, and the National Zoo will remain open.

Hello,
I don't think a shut down would have affected anyone much. The shutdown is actually needed. There have been such instances before and not much has gone bad after that.

You're right, I doubt most people would have noticed. But I know a lot of people who work for the government i.e. civil service. They might have been a little upset with being furloughed without leave. Even employees with scheduled paid leave would have been unable to take it if the government had shut down.
But, thank God, it's a moot point for now.

It kinda makes me sick how greedy people are; this is one reason why I wish politics worked the way it originally did, with politicians being accomplished businessmen TAKING A BREAK from business to help run public affairs.
And as for the 'national' parks ... this is a nation of THE PEOPLE, for THE PEOPLE and by THE PEOPLE, NOT THE GOVERNMENT!
If MY job were at a national park, I would work there for the pay 'the job' (not 'the government') brings!

I worked in a national park for 5 years, but I did not work for the NPS, I worked for the concessionaire. I know the lodges and waysides would have been empty as everyone would have been asked to leave, and our schedules would have been dramatically cut. No work. No pay.
But I do know I would have had plenty of hiking time in a Park with no tourists. Although I am not sure if employees who live there during the season would have been allowed to remain there. Since many employees are in the country on a work visa and have no other alternative place, I'm inclined to say yes.
