Fast Driving Scare You?

When you are a passenger in a car and the driver is going over the speed limit, do you get afraid? How much over the speed limit can the driver go before you start to freak out? Texas is thinking of raising their speed limit to 85 miles per hour: that's fast! I'm usually okay with a driver going a little fast as long as they aren't weaving in and out of lanes, or if it isn't raining. If it is raining, I prefer slower driving. Someone once crashed me into a tree while it was raining (driving too fast too) and almost killed me. Fast driving and rain do not mix!

I'm terrified when people drive faster than the surrounding traffic. As my driving instructor told us "it's not speed that kills, its disparity in speed that kills." Basically, it's unsafe if you're driving faster than the flow of traffic. I'm also terrified if people are going more than 30 km/h on a smaller residential road.

Speed on residential or rural roads either one are alarming to me.

I am more prone to drive fast than my husband, but it depends on the vehicle. Some of them pick up and go so fast and smooth you cannot even tell. There are some stretches of highway where fast speeds are okay, but you have to use your judgment. We tend to keep it sixty and below because it saves a bundle on gas. I wonder how people can afford those gas prices going that fast and wasting that much fuel?

Yeah, I kind of expect with the high gas prices that people will start to slow their speeds down to save gas. I think I am already witnessing that on the road these days. With the economy the way it is, people will probably also want to go slower to make their cars last longer as high speeds take a definite toll on them.

I guess I have reached an age that I do not have to kill myself to get to a destination. On a clear highway, I have done 85, but it was unintentional. We have certain products we buy and regimens we follow that help us get more out of our mileage. We also only have old cars, so we keep a spare generally. Mostly we get 30-40 mpg. on the highway. We drive at a comfortable pace and enjoy the view and each other's company.

As long as he is not weaving in and out of traffic, fast driving does not scare me. Slow driving on the other hand, makes me rather nervous as when my husband was alive, and we were going some place especially on vacation, we had planned to be at a certain time. So it depends on the driver and the conditions of the road.

Hi. Rallon. Yes, fast driving does scare me. I don't like fast driving at all. People should not drive too fast, they could end their lives. Anything that is over 75 mph, is too fast for me. I agree with you, when it is raining the road is just too wet to be traveling on especially, at a higher speeding rate. What the heck is wrong with some people? Do they not care about other drivers lives or their own lives?

I think it has to do with the lack of knowledge about the dangers of driving fast and how much time it takes a car to come to a stop in the event of a surprise. I think most people that drive carelessly do so out of a perceived notion of safety that simply isn't there. Those same people would not go and stand out in a lightening storm with a coat hanger over their head, but act just as foolishly when driving. Many people die needlessly every single day from poor driving and yet people still act like it can't happen to them. Just foolish, I guess.

Yes, it does. Especially when the fact that the people are driving behind the wheel, I would really be a bit hesitant to be around, even if they are driving the speed limit. It is really scary to think these people are the types that are going to relish a speed limit. I mean, being behind the wheel of a car, it leaves no room for error. Therefore, who in their right mind would want to limit their room for error.
There are a couple of places that have sixty mile per hour speed limit and to be honest, I really am a bit paranoid to be anyway near them. In fact, for some people, they really shouldn't go a mile per hour above thirty five or even forty. Then again, people don't plan ahead and they speed a lot. When its the law, to go to an insane amount, why do I see people going that insane speed limit and then going even faster after a while.

Yes, that is what is so scary is the other drivers. You never know what they are going to do or if they in fact even see you. Bad drivers driving fast in the rain make for disaster. It seems like a good majority of drivers that drive excessively fast are the ones that should be going below the speed limit. The irony is that those kinds of drivers usually think that they are great drivers and that it is everyone else who can't drive. I guess some people just don't appreciate enough the live that has be given to them. Car wrecks have got to be one of life's most awful events. They can kill innocent people, cause great damage and leave a emotional scar on the survivors.

Anytime I am not the driver I am very uneasy in a car, even if they are going regular speed. There are many times I feel I could benefit from a Valium when I get in the car with my boyfriend because he drives way too fast and comes close sometimes. I often tell him slow down, slow down. Makes for a very dizzy ride.
85 miles as the speed limit seems way too fast Rallon. I mean I have been known to go 80 on the expressway but that is when it is an open road. Fast driving and rain definitely do not mix, it seems the car brakes would be slippery and anything can happen.

Yes, many drivers don't realize that when driving fast (especially in the rain) it takes a lot of extra time to come to a stop when necessary. That is exactly why people should slow it down in the rain. They think they can stop, but when the time comes, they find out the were too close to the vehicle in front of them. Safety first! :)

Yes, that's pretty fast and it would scare me. I sometimes travel fast when it's only me in the car and the conditions are normal. I live in an area where there are long stretches of straight road and little or no traffic. I can travel for over an hour and see no other traffic.
I think it's important to drive for the conditions taking into account the weather and the condition of the road with regard to potholes, rough surface and such. I think you need to have experience and to be fully aware of the capabilities of you and your vehicle and drive so you know you can maintain control at all times.
It beats me why they make regular cars that are so fast and powerful these days. It is just unnecessary in my book.

Fast driving alone does not scare me, but it needs to be safely and I don't believe in driving too close to other vehicles. I also don't like people weaving in and out of traffic. At higher speeds that is very unsafe.

I'm not really afraid of fast driving even when i'm not the driver. I like the thrill of being in a fast car. Fast driving is fine with me, but not speeding. There's a difference between the two. I like excitment, but i don't like to pay the consequences of it with my life. ONe can be a safe driver while driving fast, but speeding can never be safe at all.

I'm very uncomfortable riding with a fast driver. I couldn't help but synchronize my feet as if I also have foot break or break pedals infront of me. My heart even seemed to leaping from its original position to another area. Fast driving scares the hell out of me. But when I am in control of the steering wheel and when driving on highways, I, myself, am a fast driver as well. So the feeling is far different when you're the one in control of the wheels as compared when you're just a passenger.

I tend to like fast driving. It is sort of exciting and thrilling, depending on who the driver is. I am afraid of fast driving if I am the driver. However, I trust my driver as long as it is not reckless. However, I do agree with you that fast driving and rain do not mix.

It doesn't matter how fast someone is driving, I cannot ride comfortably when someone else is driving. I know what I'm doing behind the wheel but I suspect nobody else does! The only people I can stand to be a passenger with is my dad and my sister--ironically, both of whom drive very fast and scare most people!

This depends on how much i trust the driver. Driving too fast can be dangerous but it can also be exciting. Having control is much more important than having great speed.

What is the speed limit anyway? I like fast and smooth driving... But sometimes, it gets me scared too, especially if there are many big vehicles nearby that may hit us- and yes, especially if it's raining. People shouldn't be in a hurry all the time, or they wouldn't reach their destination.
