In my younger days I couldn't wait to start exploring mainland Europe because it was on my doorstep. I traveled to Greece with my mom at age 14 years old, to the Netherlands with a friend at 17 years old and traveled around Europe by train. One winter I traveled to Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It was a snowy landscape so it looked ever so picturesque.
In 2003 I was so poor after my trip to New Zealand I did my cheapest trip ever and that was a low cost flight to Italy and a bus down to Croatia. I camped to try to spend as little as possible. Then in 2006 I went to on a trip to Bulgaria and Romania. When my disabled son was 4 months old I took him to Portugal. Then when he was 13 months old I took him to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
Did you ever travel to Europe? If so where did you go?
If not which European countries would you like to visit?

I am afraid Europe is far away from my posibilites, I restrict my traveling to nearby countries, specially South America, Europe is too expensive, because things cost more, and the money exchange runs against me.

Yup! I traveled to Germany stayed there for 3 months and was able to explore the whole country. When I was in Blackforest, I was able to travel to Alsace,France as it is just within the boundary.Same thing I did when i was in Bayern, I traveled to Salzburg in Austria. Blackforest is just the neighbor of Switzerland but I wasn't able to enter as I would be requiring a different visa that time and I was given only single entry to Schengen countries.
I also traveled to the England but from Heathrow airport i directly took the flight to Newcastle and since Newcastle also lies within the border of Scotland, I also took the train and traveled to Edinburgh.
It is my dream to travel in the eastern part of europe and the mediterranean area.

Just this past October I went to France and spent time in Paris, Northern France, and Southern France. From there we (my wife and myself) went to Barcelona and then off on a cruise where we visited Monte Carlo (Monaco), Livorno Italy (Florence & Pisa), Civitavecchia Italy (Rome), as well as a couple other places that elude me at this point.
The trip (especially the cruise) was very hectic and I can't wait to go back again to see even more of Europe... especially Eastern and Northern Europe.
Thanks,
Zelo

Yes, I travel trough Europe most of my teen years, both with my parents and alone.Like you I used the interrail and often slept in the train while traveling to avoid paying for a place to stay. With my friends we did camping a lot and when I look back I can only see it as a wonderful time. I usually traveled during the summer to make good use of our almost 3 month summer holidays from school:)
We went all the way up to sweeden and norway. Enjoyed our time in Denmark and the Netherlands. Did all Central Europe but always ended up in our favorite spot: Greece :)
Because I was born in Portugal and thus right beside Spain those were not really traveling spots, rather the place where I lived or the place where I used to go for coffee with my friends when we were bored LOL But I really enjoy the South of Spain and visited often .
Now I'm on the opposite side of the ocean, which is just as well because I can't spend money the way I used to when I was back home. I haven't really traveled much ever since I came here, and although there are many places I would like to visit on this side of the world, it didn't really happen yet and one strange thing is happening: I'm not as curious or excited about traveling as I was before. This is quite sad, to be honest, but just part of a different reality and life.

Wow....were all your travels for fun? You were so lucky to have traveled Europe from an early age. I went to Italy with my family last winter break...came back last January. It was a fun trip and I would like to go back again and visit other countries in Europe. Our stop over was in Heathrow...it was so cold there that time so we were glad we canceled our stay in London. I would like to go to Switzerland next time though. I've heard it's beautiful there.

I would like to go. However, it's too costly to go from here. Plus my hubby is terrified of flying and I don't want to go alone if we had the money one day. So I'd have to hope one of my kids would go. Otherwise I just live vicariously thru travel shows on tv.

You know when i was young as 31 I traveled to Italy and passed by to Switzerland going to Torino. But there is something happened that i cannot stayed there for long time because on the immigration i was detained due to my travel docs from here. So they didn't allow me to come and enjoy that country. But i did not hurt, that was fine and okay with me although I love to go there. Well if the Lord will give me a chance to travel around the world or even to the places that i would like to be i like Italy whole part of it also. And i want to enjoy my life there. I would go back here with a happy life and i think i am complete when that is happen.
You are much lucky Maxima because you traveled most of your life from a small child until now that you had your own kids too. And with him also. That is great.
Have a nice day!

My first Europe trip was when I was 25 years old.
It was a honeymoon trip and we went there by tour.
We covered 10 cities ie. Rome, Venice, Switzerland,
Netherland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Belgium, Austria,
London and Paris. That was the first time I saw snow.
It was awesome!
In 2007 my husband, my son and myself won a trip to
Austria, we managed to visit Eastern Europe cities like
Vienna, Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle (it was really
breathtaking view), Prague, Slovakia and Budapest-Hungary.
In 2008, we won another trip to London, so we make an
extended trip to Malaga and Granada, Spain. I always love
Europe, as you mentioned - picturesque
I hope to visit Greece and Portugal in the near future.
Any suggestion on places of interest? Thanks a lot :)
