meaning of Poke on facebook

Since i signed up on facebook.i usually see poke user but i dont know the meaning.please does anyone know the meaning of POKE.

I have ask the same question a couple of years ago,i don't send poke.I just ignore them,because if i return them am just going to get them back again. I think someone have give the meaning of poke in a recent discussion, if i fine that discussion i will share with you.

Hi. freshyax. Welcome to myLot! It means that your are saying hi, or tapping a person and letting them know that you have seen them or noticed them on Facebook. Me and my cousin always stay poking one another. She pokes me all day long if she could.

I don't think there is a particular meaning of it just like the like feature, you just like it but it doesn't mean anything.

It's defined as a sharp jab from a finger literally so when you poke someone on facebook, it's just to let that person know you're there.

I have the same question but I guess poke is to get someones attention or maybe it just for fun. I generally poke people to say hi in a fun way you know like a nudge in real life. or a tickle poke in real life.
