Can Some One Please Explain What Exactly A 'Dating' Means ?!!

I am from India and I am now 50+ ! I have read in many Novels and books about dating. All they say is either a boy dates a girl or Vice versa! During our times when were in our youth, just talking with an unmarried girl by an unmarried boy in lonely place used to be a taboo! But today under the influence of Western Culture many Indian boys and girls are indulging themselves into the act of dating on day to day basis and dating has become a common household word for them! 
The TV channels are also coming up with the shows where the boy and girl are shown dating with each other! My point is dating does this just means that a boy and girl meet at a particular place, have some time spend together nicely and have dinner or lunch and say good bye to each other or it is beyond that? To be precise, when when we say dating does it involve S*xual activity too! 
Please respond! Your views on this regard will be highly appreciated?

Hi there mate.
I am from india as well and i have dated a lot of girls. From my experience, all i can say is that it depends on the boy and the girl dating. Its actually whatever the both make out of it from mere coffee which i call mini dates to candle light dinners and end up in bed kissing each other and do what every body does in bed. Hey its all right, dating is may be the most beautiful thing i have ever known as it has let me to meet some beautiful girls i have known in my life. I guess you have a daughter and you are worried about her. Frankly my friend dont be just trust her and she wont let your trust down, as who are trusted stay very safe on dates to not break it.

Hi Dear Mdaazam! Yes I know the dating depends on the persons actually involved in it! This thing is very well understood! I was curious to know about he dating act from various countries as it differs from country to country and from Society to society! In India we really don't have the concept of dating, it is the influence of western culture with which we are getting ourselves influenced! So basically my idea was to gather information from various people living in different countries on this forum!
I am afraid dear friend your guess is wrong ! I have got a son who has grown up and he is a professional and yet to get married! Now please don't say that he also must be dating and I should take it easy! LOL !
