Fanatic over Beauty Pageants

Are you one of those glued to your TV screens last night on the coronation night of Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) 2011? Do you have bets? Did they win? I didn't entirely watch the program since it's almost late and I got work today. But I saw myself viewing the results on the net. The winner is Shamsey Supsup, an architect who graduated MagnaCum laude with the degree in BS Architechture at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. A board topnotcher in June 2010 Architecture licensure exam, she will be representing the Philippines in Miss Universe 2011 which will be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil. A beauty and brains indeed. I used to love watching beauty pageants. I usually scream with my gay brothers whenever we see a Filipina in the semis or finals of international pageants like Ms. Universe. Sadly, the Philippines is still waiting for someone to bag the Ms. World crown. Watching the local pageants on TV, we often see ourselves waiting for the final results until the wee hours of the morning. There are just so many TV ads when you watch this shows. It also turns to comedy when the contestants give their not-so-smart answers in the Q & A. How about you do you like watching beauty pageants?

hi sweetpea I am an American who is elderly and who has watched some and wanted to heave at the inane comments the winners made. they may have been Miss Universe or Miss blah blah but their IQ's were lest than their bra sizes. I dislike beauty pageeants as it does not pertain to intellect at all but only to beautiful hair and face and body. she may have never bot beyon 8th grade but people go ga ga over her outer appearance.I really think they demean women making them out to be nothing but walking outside beauty and forget that they are dumber than a carton of rocks.Oh they glibly say" I want peace for all the world. blah blah blah but of course they have not one idea of how to go about getting peace. I think a lot of women are beautiful but also brainy yet they seldom enter a beauty pageant.they are busy trying to make a difference in this world instead.

They give the wrong notion about what real beauty is. Everyone now suddenly wants to have a big hair and a 36-24-36 body. Real beauty comes from within. I am more impressed with a smart woman than a beauty who has nothing to say.

Hi Investor! I see you come from Mexico! A few years ago Mexican series was such a hit in the Philippines. Thalia was so popular back then and she even held a concert here. I used to be an avid fan of pageants and I noticed Mexico candidates are amongst the top choices in international pageants. I think Latin American countries have an edge in these contests.

i like watching beauty pageants too.. but i prefer the miss universe than the local one. hehe i guess i like to see the differences in people and then knowing that somehow, for like a few days, they all got along but they know they are fighting for one title... =)

When I was young, I must admit I am an avid fan of beauty pageant. I am wide awake until the announcement of winners but now I don't do it anymore. I'll just watch some parts then just read the newspaper or use the internet so I will know who won the pageant.

I am like you too. I used to watch them a lot when I was younger, but now I hardly watch them I just surf the results on the net. You really don't have much responsibilities when you are younger and you have so much time in your hands. So you can afford to watch until the wee hours of the morning. Unlike when you become a grown up and starts to make a living, the time you have watching TV is rather spent on resting.
