There are people who really spend their Holy Week in the beaches. They go there to have fun. For me, It's not proper especially if you are a Christian or a Catholic. There are a lot of activities in Churches during these Holy Season like recollection, confession, meditation, doing charity works, visiting churches and etc. in order to commemorate the sufferings, death and resurrection of our Lord for the salvation of people. I just want to know your comments regarding this question.

we usually spend our holy week having a bonding with the whole family, sometimes out of town like going to beaches or swimming pools, i don't know if that was wrong or not good being a christian and we respect the opinion of others not doing this kind of activities, but as for us this is the only time were we can be together cause all of us have a long vacation from work..

Your family's intention is to bond together, there is nothing wrong with that. So long as you don't frolic too much and take time to reflect on the life of Jesus when you talk to each other. A family that prays together, stays together.

There is nothing wrong with spending the Holy Week in the beach. I am a Christian and I do that together with my church. It does not mean you are unholy or not Christian when you do that. A Christian should be in daily devotion to God. So this means praying, daily meditation on God's word, worshiping on Sundays and spending quiet time with God must be part and parcel of his every day life. Now if your religion tells you to do ceremonial things then that does not mean those who do not do the same as yours are not observing the Holy Week properly. In the first place the Lord did not command that we should celebrate the Holy Week that way and neither were there specific instructions about celebration of the Holy Week. Every day we must commemorate what Jesus did for us and that remembrance should bring us into constant communion with Him and doing His commandment and will every day. There is no need to visit churches for those are not even commanded by God. there is no need to confess to the priest either during Holy week or whether it is not holy week because confession is between you and God alone. Jesus is only our mediator, not man or any one. Each day we should confess our sins because each day we do sin. is not only during Holy Week. You should do that every day, Holy Week or not.

I really don't know if it is proper or not. I just worry about what is or is not proper for me and my own kids. Everyone else can set their own standards. It really doesn't matter to me how others choose to worship or not worship.

Maybe because of the long weekend, some families are making use of this time to bond especially for those who are always away or lives away from their home. personally, I see nothing wrong with it as long as we remember and allot time to commemorate Christ and renew the faith.

In our family we'd rather spend our time in Churches and pray or march along the station of the cross as our form of pilgrimage. For families in beaches they do believe it is their family tradition or bonding moment. But I hope they come to reflect that this is God's sacrificial moment. Isn't going to the Church with your family a Bonding Moment? It's better than any outdoor vacation-- you get to bond with your family most especially a UNION with Christ.
See? It just depend on how people view their bonding moments or just their plain excuse to skip the event.I hope and pray that more christians would be fully aware of this behavior :) just think of it as our simple sacrifice to Lord.

Back when I was single Holy week for me was spending it with my family either to go to some place and have fun with my cousins or just family. But now that I have my own already, I usually go with my in-laws to the same place every year. They observe it and usually they do traditional things for their religion. As for me, i do not. Holy week is for you to remember what He has done and that should not be something to be forgotten but does not necessarily mean people cannot go and enjoy it with their loved ones. Having family bonding is one way for people to remember Him for His goodness.

Holy Week is for reflection and meditation, not for fun. If the family decides to seek the tranquility of the beach, I suppose it is all right. But personally, I think my Holy Week is not complete if I do not go on Visita Iglesia. Somehow, I feel the passion when I hop from one church to another.

But isn't it also not good to deprive your family quality time, if Holy Week is the only time you can be with them due to work? Well, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: reflect and have fun. Have fun with your family while being in the beach, and reflect with your family once you're together eating meals or before going to bed. You can also have you and your family attend the Friday's mass. There's nothing wrong with it.

As long as you don't forget what GOD given to us, you can go wherever you want. Beach is a nice place to reflect and to remember what GOD did for us. If other people don't realize this and only what they want is fun, I think that's the wrong thing.

Holy week is when we remember the suffering and sacrifices of God for our Salvation as a Christian it is not proper but to those who don't understand why and how to celebrate holy week they spend it at the beach. Our responsibility then is to pray for them that God will enlighten them, touch their hearts and speak to them that they will not stray and deceived by their wrong belief.

I'm Christian and I see there is nothing wrong with hanging out at awsome loacations; beaches, amusement parks, malls, ect and having a little fun. God isn't going to punish you because you want to chill out and some fun. I think God wants us to enjoy our lives and live to the fullest. I do a variety of hanging out and enjoying life during the holidays. I understand where you come from, however.
