Hi, my friends here!
I hear that many western people have their own family doctor. And when he or she is sick or something is wrong with he or she, the family doctor could examine he or she to check out if everything is all right.
I come from Asia, and of course, I do not have one family doctor. So I really want to know something about your family doctor.
Is that means that having a family doctor you don't need to go the hospital by yourself? Does your family doctor often check your health conditions very often?
What do you think about their jod? How much money do you pay for them in a year?
If you don't like the one you have now, is it easy for you to change another family doctor?
OK. Please let me know more about your family doctor.
Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas with me !
Take care!

I am a homeopath and my husband is an allopath. So you can easily understand that we have no need of a family doctor.

Hi, DoctorDidi. It is amzing to know that you are a homeopath and your husband is an allopath. honestly, when I first read your reply, I did not know what these two words mean. Hopefully, I looked up a dictionary and believed that you and your husband must be very great!!! Luckily, as you are a doctor yourself, you do not need to look for others' help when you are sick. I think it is a good way to save money, isn't it?
It is intersting to know your special story and thank you very much for sharing it with us here.
Good luck and take care!

Even in countries like India(European colonies), people have their own family doctors. But this tradition of having family doctors is now almost not found. But every family is familiar with a particular doctor. They contact him in emergency situations for advice. My brother, himself is a doctor, so no need of other doctor.

It's news for me to know that people in India have their family doctors.
I believe maybe poor people do not have. Maybe.
In China ,we don't have family doctors, when we are sick,we usually go to clinic or hospital straightly. We are used to it!
After all, health is very important. Isn't it?
It is fun to know your brother himself is a doctor and you don't need to employ another one. It's better because he knows you better and it could save you a lot of money. Besides, you can trust him forever.
Good luck and take care!

We have pretty good insurance so we do not have to pay much out of pocket right now for helthcare, thankfully. I am sure there will come a day when we do have to though. We only go to the doctor when it is absolutely necessary. We like the doctor that we have now.

Oh, thank you very much for telling me this. I remember two years ago I knew nothing about family doctors in western that's partly because in China we don't have family doctors for ourselves. Then I asked someting about family doctor to a BBC English Learning program and they told me a lot.
Since you are from the States, which is accoring to your files, I believe your family doctor is a responsible and kind person. You said you have insurance so that you will not worry too much, which is good. In China , if you are a normal worker, you can also have your insurance to promise you will get protected when you are sick. After all, health is so important for everybody in the world. Happy to know you are content with your doctor.
Thanks for sharing your ideas with me and say hi to your doctor for me!
Take care!

I believe your doctor is a responsible and kind woman who takes care of your family very well.Considering that health is very important for all of us, I believe having someone knows your history of illness to diagnose is important too. You can trust her and you are good friends ,so when you are in need, things could be easier to handle.
In Chian,we don't have family doctor as you guys do, when we are sick we usually go to clinic or hospital for help.

We have a family doctor, and this is the same doctor that had brought me out into this world many, many years ago. She is older now, of course, but, still when someone in the family gets sick, she is the first one we go to (she is a general practitioner) and when we need to see a specialist, she would recommend one for us. She has a clinic and that is where we see her. When somebody needs to go to the hospital, we normally go where she is affiliated so that we can request her to be the attending doctor.

yes we do have a family doctor. he is the one we go to right away when there is something wrong. he then refers us to specialists when there is something worse. his specialty is internal medicine, so when someone in the family gets something like cough, or pneumonia, of course it is about the lungs, so he refers us to anther doctor and this doctor is also close to our family.
if he can take care of us like if it is only something mild then he prescribes us only medicines and complete bed rest and things to do and avoid. but if it is something worse then he also advices us to get admitted to the hospital.
it is good to have a family doctor because he or she knows your family history about diseases you have etc. unlike if you don't have one, each doctor will ask you same questions like about family history, past medical history and stuffs like that.
you take care too and be safe always

What I understand by family doctor is the doctor to whom the all the members of the family visit when they are sick. That does not mean you hire a doctor on yearly basis it is simply that you visit a particular doctor every time you are sick and pay him visit fee on visit to visit basis. There is no compulsion of any sort that you have to visit the same person but the advantage of having a fixed doctor is that he knows your medical history and that helps him in diagnosing your problems. In my case I have got a doctor to whom all the members of my family visit every time we are sick. If there is a need of some extra consultation of some other doctor he advises accordingly. My doctor is a cardiologist and well versed in general medicine and incidentally he is a good friend of mine.
