The kiddie party we attended last night had a clown that did all the entertaining and the games. At first, the kids were scared of him because he looked weird..but then after some times they warmed up and was already near the clown and was watching him perform tricks and doing some magic and stunts. It was pretty neat. But as i was looking at them, i could not think back, i am afraid of clowns! hahaha When i was a little kid, i do not even approach them, i don't know they just look weird and who would love that man with a very big nose and the face all puffy and white? But the kids love him last night and they had a blast. and oh yeah, i am also afraid of mascots! hahaha last night mascot's was strawberry shortcake and she was soooooooooo big i do not want to go near the mascot hahahaha

I do not remember ever being afraid of clowns, but my daughter was, when she was about 2. That was because we were going to trick or treat with friends and she walked up to the door and the lady jumped up and yelled "boo" really loudly. Later my daughter became a clown. I did too. We were members of a Christian clown troop. In fact, my last clown persona was Garden Gerty.

I did not really run into people who were scared of clowns. I have been a white face, but when I was Garden Gerty I just had a dirty smudgy face. I kept my features in good proportion and so did not look so scary. In our group we talked about the markings around our eyes, that they call tears. We told people that the clown takes the tears of the world for a while so that the people can be happy. I liked entertaining and interacting with people. We did skits based on the Bible or that had kind messages.

A lot of people are afraid of clowns. My mom is in a lot of senior groups and they always announce if there will be a clown so those who are afraid can stay home. I don't much like clowns. I'm not afraid, but I think they are creepy.

Seniors are people over 65. But 65 is a youngster were my parents live. My mom is in her 80's and many times she's the youngest in the group. My father will be 90 this year.

I hate clowns too. I've hated them ever since I was a young child. I watched that movie "IT" and I have hated them ever since. lol I would never have a clown for entertainment at my childs birthday party because I don't like them and I know a lot of kids (and adults) are scared of them.

Sometimes i think it is the kind of face a clown paints that can scare a child. when you get scared of something in your childhood, it can follow you for years to come. something as happy as a clown should not ne something to fear, but it does happen.

YES! I'm afraid of clowns too! It's not so bad when i'm a kid because i found them cute, especially those animated ones, or seen it in cartoons. I'm not that scared when i'm seeing a real clown due to the distractions by their magic tricks. As i grown older, i suddenly has this fear in this, and that's the time i started noticing their thick make ups, eerie eyes as well as those big, overdrawn lips. It's really scary.

We have our own share of phobias. I really think yours is odd and funny. It is called coulrophobia or fear of clowns and masklophobia or fear of mascots. But I suspect you are not the only person who experience this. I have a friend who who have fear to these things and I really find it funny. When we dined in Mc Donalds and screamed when he found out that Ronald McDOnald mascot was at her back. I believe you must be constantly and gradually exposed to these things you fear the most until you no longer experience anxiety. You call this systematic desentisization. You can do it.

Clowns and mascots are really scary to toddlers especially. Why? Because they are not normal. You watch babies celebrating their first birthdays. They are afraid. And we delight all the more when they cry, as if appeasing them for a while solves their fears. Something in your past must have made you really scared. I do hope you get over it.

Yes babies do get scared because mascots are so huge. i believe i got scared of that clown in a horror movie i've watched before.

I remembered the time when I and my son together with friends went to mall. We saw a mascot. I thought kids love mascots as I noticed from the other kids on tv. I was quite surprised that my son got shocked when we approached the mascot. He never got nearer then. I think some kids didn't like them because they were not accustom yet.

Wow, we are totally the same.. I am afraid of mascots and clowns too. When I was little, Jollibee approached me once and then I cried hid behind my mother.. They just look so scary and weird, especially with their smiling faces. Maybe it was because I saw some horror movies and urban legends about them..

Maybe that's one of your fear jazel_juan, and in order for you to overcome it. You must find ways on how to handle it and get some advice from your relatives and friends and by doing those, i am pretty sure you will not be afraid of clown but instead you love them so much. Best wishes for you! :)
