Triond is probably your best bet if you only plan on writing short stories- one bonus is the community, many story and poem writers always share with each other, comment on each others work, and help each other become a better writer.
Check out my profile for the link, if you like. Or you could simply go straight to the site.
Good luck!!!

There's a new site I found that let people read part your short stories and if the reader wish to read the rest of your story their charge a fee. I think the writer and the site split the profits. You must have $10 to cashout thru PayPal. I don't have the website at hand right now. But if you would like, you can add me as a friend, and I will search my archives for the website. if I find it I'll pm it to you.

Thank you for posting this. I can use this information myself. I have wanted to write short stories for someone to get paid. The only things I have ever found have been boring as they have been informative. I would prefer to write more freelance. Helium seems like a good one, I am signed up with that one. But I have not actually written for them yet. It seemed hard to get payment for it tho. There is also Associated Content. That one I think you pick from topics. An acquaintance of mine wrote for them. It does seem a bit time consuming and takes a bit to get paid I think.

If you are from the US you can join Gather. You earn points for your content and can redeem them for gift cards. There is an active writing community and there are others who are good at viewing your content and also earn. It is not a site that we earn for referrals, so there is nothing in it for me if you join. Feel free to check it out.
