Hey all. This is my first discussion so here goes nothing. I was wondering what do you guys think about the music that is made nowadays. Music was very important for society for a long time but it seems that it`s magic seems to fade.
The mainstream production is just retarded and the fact the we are a shallow and increasing in stupidity society can be blamed on that. Music used to be about expressing feelings you couldn`t normally express, and now it is just a stupid bass line and a synth.
Of course we have bands that created ideologies, that united people, that moved the world, but unfortunately i used the past tense in this sentence. What about the future? Who will encourage our children to think outside the box, to fight the system, to be the best?

Are you talking about the genre or the lyrics? Because where lyrics are concerned, you are right, they are shallow and self-centered, that is why I listen to inspirational lyrics, everything from contemporary, to rock to heavy metal. I think the music is awesome and my biggest surprise was the band, "Newsboys" when their lead singer quit..I never thought anyone could replace him, but Micheal Tait, formally of D.C.Talk, is doing a great job, giving them a little difference, but keeping them the same...:)

I think the lyrics and the music are worse. Of course there is a lot of progress and feel in heavy metal and rock but you don`t really see that on tv (except the special channels) or hear on radio. What i find awesome in this genres is that you have to look for them, to test and define your taste, which is the opposite of lady gaga stalking me everywhere on every soundwave

I guess it really depends on the type of music that we appreciate. Some may still like the type of music that we have right now.
I'm a music lover myself and what I just don't like about music nowadays is that there's a lot of revivals. It seems that a lot of musicians or artists are no longer creative and they just rely on what was on the past and they just try to revive it. Its actually frustrating.

Really.. In today's songs, i just like the music and not the words. Many of the songs in meaningless in words. So, what notes of is the music only.

I'm not keen on pop music any more. It just seems to be naked dancing lady + annoying lyric = millionaire.
I think rock songs are better tbh, bands link the foo fighters etc. are where its at.

Hi madmax,
Welcome to mylot.
I don't think the music has faded away, but then my choice is quite different. I love fusion music, mostly jazz and blues fusion. I am not talking about bands as a whole here, there are certain individual artists who have contributed a lot to fusion music, like Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan, Alex Argento, Allan Holdsworth and many others. I love their music, it's too complicated and real feel to listen to. If you are talking about mainstream bands then in a way yes, their music is changing nowadays and some of them are using voice modulation and all such crap, which i don't like at all. There are still some real original bands like Porcupine tree, reign of kindo and some other bands as well. I have never actually liked some of the more famous bands like "Metallica" and all because i have found them to simple to listen to, with mostly riffs and no solos. I need good solos.. Music has not all gone but then it all boils down to what you like to listen to. Some like the modern techno sounding type music and i don't like such 'artificial' music.

We its proven that if we didnt have music the world would be super crazy. But yes music can express feelings like if you listen to metal when you paint you will use darker colors. But if you listen to happy music then you may use brighter colors. And if you listen to rock while driving a car you will drive faster. But i think our kids will not have the quality of music that we had because everyday diffrent and new music comes out but none of it was like back in the beatles day when music was still good
