Closing Time At The Lot

A couple of people's responses to one of my most recent discussions that I started made me consider starting this discussion. Made me glad that this site has been around for 4 1/2 yrs. for me as well. I personally cannot imagine being anywhere else. But what if myLot was like a Store and had certain hrs. it was open and available and the other times you knew you had to wait? Back this last weekend when we were not able to post for a couple of hrs. I know many here did panic and were glad to see it back open so we could post, but what if things were like this everyday? Personally though there have been times and days where it might be closing time in your day, or situation to have to take some time off from here, and do your other things in life. But no matter what there will always be others being able to come here and post and enjoy this wonderful site as well. But if there ever came a day where there was a Post here myLot will be closing every night from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. or something like that I am sure many of us would be at a huge loss for sure. ~~TINA~~

I kinda feel like it is closed sometimes. There are times when I actually have nothing to do so I look at my mailbox and no myLot stuff! I "check mail" and still nothing. An hour goes by as I do other things I need to catch up on--still nothing. It's almost like it's a store that is closed for lunch!

Thats when I post my discussions. It takes awhile to research and put together and then I go to sleep and viola' in the moringing, something to do! I sometimes get bored on here too. I work evenings when all the action picks up. And when its the weekend, everyone is out doing NORMAL human things, and Im sitting here wondering where everyone is at!

Yes, there can be times when there is not much going on here. It makes it quite hard if you are wanting to find New discussions to respond too as there is nothing of quality besides a New discussion or two. But then some of these times are when like now, you will find me trying to respond back to some of the older discussions that I have started, and catch up on friends discussions that I might have missed. For me it seems like I am always behind.

If there was an advantage to it, I could see it happening, but as far as I can determine, there would be no advantage. That particular closing time would work for me alright, but I am sure it would not work for lots of others.

Personally that is True. A closing time might work for some here who are stay at homers who sleep early, or those living in areas where they are sleeping at this time, but for many others of us working second shift or living in other countries where they are sleeping while the US is awake, this would not be fair to them for sure. So still very Glad that this site is open 24-7 for sure.

My lot is like an addiction and really when you go offline for a while you actually are thinking about the discussions or friends here and waiting to finish the other task quickly and get back online. Don't even give my lot people that idea imagine the horror we go through when its closed for maintenance...

We all know if we have been active here for a while, that there are times where this site will be down for maintenance and it is hard especially if you are in the mood to come here. But usually this is only for a short time and then everything seems to be alright. Thank goodness this is not something we know will happen everyday.

That is for sure and there are many times that you can find me here when I get off work which is like 1 a.m. my time. It would be strange if I could not come here then and catch us if I want.

Hi Tina now that would not hurt me as my motor mouth roommie insists I shut off my computer at ten pm but it would have three years back before I got stuck in this tiresome retirement center. I miss have complete control over my whole life but as we are wok eup at six a m it does make a sort of sense to go to bed at 10.although if I had my druthers I would stay up til midnight or later and get up at 8 am,I sure do love our mylot and my ability to post whenever I can. Lately life has had a way of interfering with my being here and I get really resentful as its other people's doings not my own;lol

Well, many times we have to listen to others insist on what we must do in life instead of doing things that we enjoy. I know myself there are many times I feel too limited in the amount of time that I am able to spend in here, and really wish that it could be more. But I work Full time along with my Health issues, etc. and it makes for a really long day at times. But I am here when I can same as you, and still enjoying every moment of it as well.

myLotters are all around the world, and it would be difficult to close everywhere between 1 to 6 a.m. I received no notifications during 7 or 8 hours today, and I realized it when logging here. Actually I am not very present, but I was during the winter and I like the idea that myLot is never closed and that you can find somebody to discuss with at any hour : it is one of the best feature of myLot to be able to find a discussion at 3 a.m. like at 3. p.m. I would not like a to see it closed during a few hours.

I agree with you there. Especially since I work Swing shift here in the US, so a lot of times you will find me posting in here after 1 a.m. when I get home. What is quite interesting is the amount of people and activity that this site will have from time to time. Makes you glad it is always open for sure.

Yes. It would be a huge loss for alot of people, especially those that have to work different hours. They may not even have the time to come to Mylot anymore. They may be asleep when Mylot is open for business or at work.

That is for sure. Especially even with people like me who work Swing Shift, it would limit the amount of time I have to be active here as well. It would never work if Web pages, especially this one did this. I can see down times like it has, but nothing that would last a while every night.

well, since mylot is a world wide thing, I would hope it stays 24 hours because it would exclude lots of folks the other way

Just taking into consideration the different time zones as well, it would surely effect those from other countries and they may would leave the site altogether. If that were to ever happen,or to become a regular thing I think it would be a drastic downfall to mylot. Imagine already that when things like not being able to post, or the site being down happens, it's a heartache for us all. We're all waiting greedily until we can post again. Then those discussions about "yay mylot's back up" comes rolling in. If they were to clsoe from 1 am to 6 am my time it wouldn't really effect me though because I am in bed by 12 AM and awake by 7 AM and so usually aren't on the computer at those times at night.

Yes, it would be a drastic downfall for myLot. I know even just with the last couple of days me not having Internet connection until they were able to reconfigure my system here in my house for a couple of days and only able to access internet most of the time from my phone was not fun, so it things were limited I would have been here even less. So glad the Internet and myLot is 24/7.

To begin with the time difference for alot of users is such that this would not work well at all. On the web as apposed to libraries and such don't have 'hours' persay. They are just there whenever for the most part. You wouldn't be able to read administration in the wee small hours but the site is available 24/7.

Yes, that is the good thing about the internet. It is available 24/7 as are most sites unless they are doing maintenance, and that is a Good thing. I know many times it is nice to be able to come here anytime I want, especially the nights I might be having problems sleeping for sure.

Well, for people like me who work evenings, and sometimes like to come home from work and unwind and post in here for a bit, it would be awkward but I would learn to make do.

It is interesting to imagine MyLot being closed every day for a few hours but I would imagine it would not be an easy thing for MyLot to do because the members are from all over the globe with different time zones. I would not like it because one of the things I love about the Internet is that it is always there and I especially like the fact that during the night here in Australia when everything offline is closed for the day there is still the Internet and people who are very much awake going about their days.

Yes, that is so True, and a Great thing about the internet for sure. There are many times something around here might be closed, so people can sleep, etc. or spend some time with their family, but here we can come as we have time, and post away and nothing is there to Stop us.

While I used to continually be on mylot from the time that I got out of bed in the morning until I would go to bed at night. Then, it really would have bothered me if there had been certain hours that we were not able to use the site. However, since then I've started doing some other activities for money and because of that I don't spend as much time as I used to here and if the site was closed for the day, I would just substitute in another place where I'm earning money.

Well, I am still glad that myLot does not have certain hrs. they are available as there are times that I am on here that I know most people here in the US are sleeping. This is a Great place to come no matter what time of day.

With different time zones and people (mylotters) from different parts of the world, it would be difficult to work out a closing time for mylot. When it's night for us, the day just starts elsewhere. If mylot chooses to close down at a fixed depending on which part of the world we are, it wouldn't really be a practical option (for mylot as well as the users). Besides, some mylotters are up at night and mylotting. So, it wouldn't make sense to close down then, would it?

That is so true... when it is daylight somewhere it is night somewhere else. I am sure that is when you will see many people from other countries even posting more than others. That is the great thing about the internet and myLot for sure... being able to connect with many wonderful people from all over the world.

Hi Tina, myLot is a site for users from all over the world. We are living in regions of different time zones. Here is 11 o'clock in the morning whereas in certain places it would be an hour, few hours or twelve hours, later than the time here. may be this is the bedtime for friends in other countries whereas I'm busy reading and typing posts here. I'm glad that mylot is available 24 hour. If I'm not mistaken it would be closed for a short while only when the site is going to have some upgrade or reassembling. This let me to do mylot posting at any time conveniently I prefer not to see any closing hour for mylot site. Happy posting

That makes me sad to just think about it! I hope they don't read this post and get any ideas! lol! I am glad that myLot is here whenever I am in the mood to get on and have some socialization! This is one of my chief social outlets and it means a lot to me so I hope that they never NEVER do that!!

I hear you there my friend. I am always wishing and hoping the same thing as well, as I would hate to think there would not be a place like this to come to anymore. I do know there are times I really need this site still, and look forward to being able to come here.

Since a lot of the people on here are in different time zones, it would be hard to pick a time to close down. Those hours would be good for me, because I am usually in bed. If I have trouble sleeping, I get up and read. I have thought about getting on the computer but I didn't want to be up that long. Once I get on here, time seems to fly. There has been a few times that there was a problem posting, but I didn't know until reading later discussions. I guess I just take it for granted that it is always open and would be upset if it wasn't available.

Yes, you hit it on the nose here. Since there are so many people here in different time zones, it would be hard if this site was only open certain hrs. I know it would affect me as well since I work Swing shift and am gone until 1 a.m. or so which is 4 a.m. on the East Coast.
