BF-GF Commercial of McDonalds was pulled-out

Here in the Philippines, there is one commercial from McDonald about a young boy and girl. The young girl asked the boy if she was already his girlfriend and the young boy answered no because of the reason that girlfriends are demanding only in turn that the young girl only wants to have a McDonald french fries. And the end part of the commercial, the two were holding hands while the young girl was holding her french fries bought by the young boy. Do you remember this commercial (this commercial can be only seen on Philippine Television, or maybe in YOu tube). It was pulled-out by CBCP or Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines because it sends wrong message to children. According to them, the commercial is very shallow and cheapens human relationship. This include this statement "If the ad attempted to teach commitment, (it failed) because it was too superficial to point to a packet of French fries as the basis of a relationship.". Personally, this is one of my favorite commercial. Whenever it is aired I stop what I am doing and I giggled at the part where the young boy is waving his hand and telling that girlfriends are demanding. As a woman, this commercial looks cute and I do not see any violation it caused. I start thinking if there is any, but if there is, I believe parents should be responsible for their children on whatever they watch on television. Like this commercial, children do not have the same level of intelligence compare to their parents. For sure if the children watch it, they will say "I want french fries too" rather than "is french fries the basis of relationship?" of course they will not ask like that. On the other hand, since CBCP is conservative with this kind of Ad and it was already pulled-out and i cannot do nothing about it, what about the other shows that connotes malicious acts, for example Going Bulilit. Going Bulilit is a Gag show in ABS-CBN that is airing half the decade now and I was surprised that we heard nothing from CBCP. Even some of the commercial with sexy bodies of male and female showing on the ads, if they are really conservative while they are not criticizing it? Or maybe they had done it in the past, that I am not aware of. I believe they should check all commercials of todays and not only that very cute commercials of McDonalds.

maybe it is because of the news relating to Willie Revillame's show, having a kid dance like a macho dancer. that, maybe, makes those groups much aware of the things related with kids. and sad to say that mc donalds aired that commercial while in the peak of the story about the said incident at willing willie.

That situation is worst compare to McDonald. Yeah, you are right, maybe they are now on eye on everything regarding child abuse or something like that. It is good that they are now doing it. This commercial got dragged to it, but i still find this commercial humble and cute.

Hi grecy!!! It's been a long time! I did not know that they stopped this commercial from airing. I guess they did because I've only seen this once or twice on television and once in youtube. I also think that this commercial was cute and I agree when you said that on the level of interpretation of kids, this will not mean any deeper than French fries. Of course, kids don't understand relationship matters on their level so they will not interpret the commercial as something about relationships. However, I do think that this influences the kids to develop awareness on boy-girl relationships on an early age. I mean, they get aware of being sensitive to the other gender. I've seen some very little kids being teased to another kid of the same age and they already get shy! I don't think that's supposed to be the reaction of a little kid. But then again, you also have a point when you said that parent's should guide their children when watching television. But nowadays, that doesn't happen as much as it should be. So I think that the media should be responsible of what they show to people particularly to kids and teenagers. Media is one of the major influences that shapes a person. Cheers.

Hello Secretbear! Yes its been a long time. How yah doing now? I accepted the fact that it was pulled out, Hats off to McDonald Management for doing it. Maybe we find the commercial cute but we do not see it can give a great impact on children, as you said not all children are guided by their parents, considering everyone has a computer and access to the internet.

That is so weird. I don't remember ever seeing that commerical, and like you said it didn't air here. I don't see why it was pulled. I mean talk about censorship. I can understand why some commericals are banned in conservative countries. But that one is really weird.

haha =D That commercial is really funny and i dun see why it should be pulled out.. lol =D There's nothing wrong with the commercial in the first place. After all, we humans are always doing, agreeing to things, for the sake of something. That applies to children as well.. haha =D Just like what parents tell their children, to study hard, in exchange for rewards? So what's wrong in agreeing to a relationship for fries?? lol =D Unless parents stop telling those agreements to their children, if not i dun see why the commercial should be pull out.. haha

Because we are not that conservative like them. On the otherhand, they are just doing their job and it is an eye opener too for us to absorb the real meaning of that commercial. Sometimes we see things as shallow but in the real sense there is a deep meaning inside it. McDonalds understand it and got it that is why they initiated the pull-out, which was good.

I have seen this commercial too and though it was really cute and funny, a bit realistic too. it's only people that give bad meanings to anything, and yes kids won't think that deep. I found nothing offensive about the commercial...they should put it back.

Oh that's good it got pulled out. I also didn't like the commercial that much when I saw it back then. It's like promoting romantic relationships for children. Oh my, good heavens!!!

I think CBCP did the right thing for this commercial, when the children is involve in something that is not right in their eyes, they will do what is right.
