Way Past Patience for Potty Training

Ok, so here's the deal. I have a 3 year old daughter who has low muscle tone and has been developmental delayed in almost every area. Now she has almost completely caught up and even surpassed kids her age in some areas. The problem: she understands what a potty is for and she will even rarely sit on it and go. However, she WILL NOT go regularly, not more than once a week. I changed her diaper today and 3 minutes later, instead of telling me she had to go she dirtied her diaper. I cannot get her to sit on it at anytime except bathtime. I have tried know to do. She says she does not want to wear panties and she likes her diapers. Please someone help me and tell me what to do. I cannot continue to diaper this child, they almost do not fit anymore. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I put mine in regular panties. After one pee accident she went because she didn't like it running down the leg. The nights take longer and so does the number 2. You can use the older kids pull-ups! It takes a lot of time and patience. Consider using a sticker reward on a chart and buy her a toy when it's all filled up.

I bought into the whole pull ups road and then one day my daughter tells me she wants her princess diaper and I understood that it was never going to happen with the pull ups. I put her in regular panties from then on. It was a week of accidents and going through all her pants at times but she really decided that she did not like being wet and would go on the potty. The first couple of days were the worst and I do recommend sweat pants or something that will absorb a bit to avoid some puddles on the floors. The 2nd week was the week of her not wanting to poop on the potty and I tried several things. I try M&M if she would go poop on the potty, I tried making her sit a bit longer hoping that it would happen (I was sort of lucky as she would poop about the same time every day. Finally I told her that I was done washing poop out of panties and the next time she did it I was throwing them away, for whatever reason that worked and she stopped. She was a few months from her third birthday when she was potty trained and it has been almost a year. She does still have the occasional accident but hardly any. Sometimes we just have to take away the diaper not give her that option. I had started her first thing in the morning and after nap time just putting her on the potty till she went pee. She started being dry over night and at nap probably a year before she was potty trained. So I really don't have any hits about that, I know I got lucky there. I hope that you can find something that will work for you and if you take diapers away stay strong and don't give them back.

My daughter was still in diapers at an older age then that. My son is 3 1/2 and is still in diapers. He doesnt like to go naked he likes to pee in the diapers but once in awhile he will go naked and pee on the potty chair. I told him if he goes poop on the potty chair or toilet I will buy him whatever present he wants at the store but he still hasent tried it. I dont put push him to do it. When he is ready he will. I use cloth diapers and pretty soon they wont fit anymore so I am going to have to buy disposable diapers all the time from now on until he potty trains. He wears a size 6 diaper. I think they might go to size 7 but after that I'm not sure. My daughter wore a 6 until she potty trained.

My oldest was 3 years 3 months before she was fully potty trained. What I did with my 2 oldest daughters was sit them on the potty in the living room for 10 minutes at a time and then play for a half hour then another half hour on the potty. Once they turned 2 it was pull-ups not diapers. With my youngest who is almost 23 months she prefers the toddler seat that goes on the big potty. I have her in the Gerber undies most of the day or nothing but a pair of pants. She only pees on the potty maybe once or twice a week but it does save on money a bit because she only wears a diaper to bed and poops in a diaper through out the day. Maybe you could try that with you daughter. Have her sit on the potty for 10 minutes every half hour. Try rewarding her when she does something as well. I have used dum-dum lolly pops, stickers and a bag of small toys from the dollar store. Explain to her that once she's a big girl and done with diapers you'll bring her some where special. Maybe a water park or Six Flags or something.
