We have a maid who's working for us. She's a regular and hard worker. She comes everyday to our house at morning 9 and leaves at 3 doing all the work. She cleans the house, washes the dishes hangs the clothes and does almost everything.
A week ago she left suddenly without giving any hint and we thought she was unwell. We even tried calling her mobile but it's switched off. After 4 days also she didn't come and we were really worried. On the 5th day she came and said that she had gone to her mother's home as her mother was unwell and needed someone to look after her. We asked her why didn't she mention it before to which she replied that she had had put up her facebook status as away as her mother was not well...
That answer left me with no response. I didn't know facebook was so popular! And i had no option but to stand and smile...

Hi. raviteja_ravi84. I wished that your maid would have been honest and tell you that her mom was unwell and that she needed to be with her at this time. Not showing up, or calling you, or even leaving you a note shows a lack of dishonesty. I mean, if she posted her status on Facebook, then surely she could have told you the same thing to your face. After all, she is your maid and I am sure that you would rather her come and tell you this directly rather than indirectly? It is good to know that she posted her status on Facebook. But what if you never thought of looking on Facebook, then you would never know anything about what is going on in her life.

LOL! I guess, everyone in the neighborhood has its own facebook account and most of us updates status using the mobile phones. That's what technology is today. Here in our place, even the men who collect the garbage have cellphone and who knows? He might be updating his FB status through his cell phone.

Facebook is making their money, They have their own answering service for other people. That is a trip, I gues she thought that you all check facebook, and you all should have been able to read that she was away, LOL. I mean who do people think they are now a days, people are making facebook their secretary, people are using facebook for break-ups and everything wow. who would have known, people just don't communicate any more. This world is crazy..

That's kind of funny. Lol she expected you to look at her Facebook? I don't think facebook is THAT popular that people check up on eachothers profile all the time.

See that much internet has grown and each and every one is using facebook now a days as everyone is mobile in their day to day life. Your maid did not tell you that she is using facebook before itself then how can she expect you to know from the facebook updates.

Nope not a joke it's really true! My mom got a little angry at first but since she was down to earth her job was saved and she asked the maid never to give such cheeky replies again!

Yup SViswan... I read that one too. But I believe ravi on this one as it is getting popular. In India some cell phone services are providing the FB connectivity and the newer models are quite affordable... So I see no reason this cannot happen

That's terrible. Once I got a call from a friend that one of my close friend was in a hospital for an operation. I called this friend and asked why didn't she call me earlier, I would have been there before the operation. She told me, she put a status on FB saying that she is facing a trouble time in her life. I just said: Too bad, I am not in FB.

yes facebook design is to be addictive and encourage people to log on as long as possible and doing stuffs inside there to create more traffic and interests. They are using social networking, pictures , comments, like buttons, games and others to build longer browsing time in facebook.Hence people just lock into facebook and spy what other people are doing and watchin.

This story reminds me of our previous maid, who not only uses facebook but also loves to do YM and Skype on my desktop no less. FAcebook has broken borders, in fact now, its uses is no longer confined to personal use in keeping up with friends, it is also being utilized as a platform for business. So that means, it is a very popular media.lol

You've got a facebooking maid. Personally,I think your maid has the obligation to inform you beforehand if she's not coming on days she is expected to work. Switching the mobile off means she doesnt want to be located and disturbed, that would be a sign of irresponsibility. If she has the time for facebook then why won't she have the time to inform you considering that is her means of income?

Well maybe she had time to just update her status and tell everyone at once instead of once at a time... Didn't think of that before...

Hi, Rav. :0
I am hoping that the first comment I tried to post wasn't posted at all, it says bad request.
Anyhoo, this is a very funny post. I remember I read a similar story like this somewhere, but it wan't for real because it was just a joke.
You can not blame her, Rav, who hasn't heard of facebook yet? Everybody has a facebook account, I guess. So your maid thinks that it is so pouplar and that you'll be techi enough to search for her fb profile when she is missing. That you forgot, dear.
So, you have learned a vital lesson now,BE UPDATED.LOL

It is no surprise,Rav. I knew a maid who has an fb account and she is so active. She is even hiring another maid to do her task so that she can do fb..
Hah! Your maid is very resourceful.

Well yes it is really amusing to know that facebook is for everybody notwithstanding their race, economic standing and a lot more, except of course when age matters.
Even first graders have facebook now and we just get amazed by how they are able to
play those facebook games, some we have a hard time learning the mechanics.
It's a good thing, cause finally there is this social network which doesn't really function as a dating site but simply so people gets more connected.

That was so irresponsible of your maid. When she has a facebook account, she can't take it for granted that everybody has got one as well. Besides, she's supposed to be working for u, and does an employer need to know if their maid has an account? I don't think so. She should have told u out right when she's planning to go away. She ought to be punished.

OMG that was so funny LOL I don't think she was meaning to be funny though. ANywya yes facbook is really the thing right now. I mean whatever happens, we'll know all of it through people's statuses.. For me i don't mind it at all. But there are people who totally hate people doing so.

this discussion made me smile too! your maid is very techy than you are. Now that serves a lesson for you to check the status update of your maid so that you can understand her actions and know her whereabouts. I can only imagine your maid having a status message that will read as " cleaning the house" or washing the dishes :)

haha.. better watch out for your maid doing some status updates :) by the way, just tell her maybe next time she can text you if ever she has an emergency. I think she can understand if you are not able to log in to your facebook and be updated about her :)
