You cannot replace completely Real Player, because the codec Real Video 4 is not free and you cannot find it for VLC. Except this one, every other Real Codec is available for VLC, which is the best cross platform player actually.

I personally prefer the VLC player over the real player and over any other player in truth. The VLC player pretty much plays anything and everything in terms of formats. Although I don't really know the full capabilities of the real player as I've found it awkward compared to other players. I'm sure they can both work on the same system though, can't see why they wouldn't .

As long as you have enough space to have them both, why not? There are files that are not supported in VLC as well. It's not universal. Therefore, I still keep a lot of media players in my pc. Have a great MyLot experience aheaD!

VLC player is a good one, we also use that. And I think its okey to have other players such divx player, winamp, windows media player and etc. just for back-up purposes.
