The president of Czech Republic is being criticized for supposedly pocketing a pen! And the stealing was caught in full view on cam. Well, whatever explanation his troubleshooting staff says, the point is, he pocketed the pen!
I always carry a pen with me, several actually. I am into jotting down things that pop in my mind, or I have the sudden urge to play sudoku or crossword puzzle, or I might be needing to answer forms or documents somewhere like the bank. A pen is handy. And I never want to borrow somebody else's pen. Neither do I lend my pen. It is sort of personal for me, like toothbrush.
What about you, do you always carry a pen?

Hi Eileen,
Yes, I always have a couple of pens in my purse. I am a pen person and I might let someone borrow it but I watch it to make sure I get it back. I compare them more to lighters than toothbrushes. They are just too easy to absentmindedly pocket.
As for the President of Czech Republic pocketing that pen, I saw that on the news and the big deal they made of it as if he was stealing. It was my understanding that those pens are theirs anyway so he was in essence stealing his own pen.

Actually, it really was a complimentary pen. I don't know why he looked at it as if he was contemplating. I might do the same to decide whether it was worth bothering with. I really don't know but from all I've read, it was there for the taking and the media blew it up as if he was stealing it.

If it was his, why did he have to look at it as if he was contemplating about whether to get it or not? If it was a freebie, I would put even the case in my pocket.

I should. I carry a pen when I need to go to an important meeting (not really work related).
It also depends on where u go to. If you go shopping, buy groceries, to the movies, or doing something social, people typically could care less about bringing a pen. It is still useful in case if you pay with credit card or something, but usually there's always pen in stores, restaurants, and other public places.
Many people usually don't have the habit of jotting down ideas. It tells me how wise this Czech president could be, yet he is being criticized for something that many people don't do. He is being criticized for a specific habit that is beneficial for many of us at a particular time. Many of us tend to criticize certain people for certain habits that seem insignificant, but is very useful.
If I want to jot down ideas, I use Notepad or Wordpad on my computer. Maybe I am lazy looking for a piece of paper, but at least I can save what I need to note down on my computer.

garson, I believe there is a universal norm for human conduct. Whether we are in Japan or America, Russia or China, we have no right to pocket what is not ours. That is also true whether we are rich or poor. The international law is, whether we stole a dime or a billion bucks, it is still stealing. We cannot allow a double standard of morality just because the one who pocketed the pen is the president of a republic.

I do carry a pen and a note book all the while.
It is very useful to carry a pen along so that, I can note down whatever I want to.
When I were waiting for someone, I should take out my note book and my pen to start noting down whatever I planned to do.
With a pen, I can note down the important information when I saw it in the newspapers, signboard, magazine and so on no matter where I am.
I am really uncomfortable without a pen and a note book with me.

So, how often do you buy pens and notebooks, vowels? You must have a stack of notebooks in your home now!

I have watched the news awhile ago about the Czech President pocketing a pen. All of my bags that regularly used have permanent pen inside, I always carry a pen and a notebook too. And of course, hanky is always present in my bag.

I think it is the way in which he took it that got the attention. It was complimentary and his to take anyway. I think the media makes a huge deal out of nothing. I don't even think he was trying to be sneaky. Surely he knows the cameras are on him. It looked to me like he checked it out to see if it was anything he wanted and decided it was.

The Czech Prez will be remembered for that silly act. Sigh. Rule of thumb, carry your own pen all the time, like we do.

I always carry a pen. It is very useful to have one in your bag. If you are going to make a list, answer some surveys, or when you are going to the bank. I prefer to use my special pen always.

I always have sign pen with me. I have one inside my bag, in the side pocket of my bag and usually on top of my desk. My favorite one is inside my bag. I want to use my own pen in filling up forms and whenever needed.
I once worked in a bank and we have that joke around not to leave your pens unattended. It gets lost faster then when you leave a bill or coin on top of your desk. Clients sometimes unconsciously bring the pens. They don't mean to bring it.

Just for the world to know...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PENS UNATTENDED!
And yes, it is always practical and hygienic to carry and use a personal pen. Kudos to both of you, ha ha!

Yes, I always carry a pen in my purse. In fact, I have about 4 or 5 pens in there. lol I taught Sunday school the other Sunday and had to let a parent use my pen to fill out a form and he never gave it back. So I guess he pocketed my pen. lol It was just a cheap pen but if it had been a good pen I might have went looking for him to ask for my pen back.

I do. I learned from experiences that it is always handy to bring a pen, you never know when you need it, and i always make it a point my pen is black, i do not use other color but black. hahaha I always have it in my bag. Oftentimes when i am asked to go to agencies like SSS or pag-ibig, there are really things that are needed like to sign or to fill up something. They do have pens available there for use but often times there are so many people using it and i really find bringing one useful plus the ink is fine. hahaha

True, although gel pens are the in thing today, I still carry a black inked pen for legal purposes....
Someone borrowed a pen from me at the NBI. I was not using one but he approached me if he could use my pen. I lied and said I had none.

I carry at least one in my purse and sometimes two. I used to carry my checkbook and needed a pen to write checks. I don't do that anymore but having a pen is still ideal. My ex used to always be asking me for a pen. He always gave it back though. It has come in handy many, many times.

Me, too, I have long since done away with a checkbook. I only needed it once when I had to pay installments for a vehicle. The ex is another story...

I wouldn't blame the President of Czech republic for pocketing somebody else's pen because I might as well have done the same thing if I had no pen in my pocket and borrowed it from some body else. I am so used to my pen in my pocket that as soon as I finish writing I will put the pen in my pocket. For some reason if I forget to put the pen in my pocket I get irritated because I hate to borrow it from some body else. It is so integral part of my shirt.

How many times have we all picked up a pen at the bank and signed our name and then kept the pen in our hand out of habit and then walked out of the bank pocketing or pursing it...out of habit!!! Daily happening if you ask me...so...WHAT THE HECK IS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT!!!!!!

That is funny no wonder I noticed banks or any other establishments that needs you to jot down something or filling up of slips their pens are tied to a little hook or stand to avoid honest penlifting.hahha As a teacher my back pack is always full fo Pencils and Pens including my Gateway Laptop, smart bro, cap, my umbrella and my mobile phone.

Why is the legislative body not making pen stealing a crime? Punishable by detention and the culprit writing I will not steal a pen again!a hundred times. Joke! Hmmm, joke not in good taste and no one's laughing. I will just not delete it anyway. Shucks what am I writing!? Grrr....

I used to always carry a pen with me, but now I seldom do. There have been plenty of times that I wished I had one when I didn't, like when I was at a border and needed to fill out a form so I could pass through. I would have to wait until I saw someone filling out a form because I didn't. Ever since I stopped going to school, I didn't carry a pen all the time. Since now I attend online classes, I don't need to write anything so I don't bother. Thanks for bringing this up!

I have a pen with me as long as I have my purse with me. I don't really like carrying a purse, but it has all the necessities. My husband always carries a pen with him too, so if I don't have one, he does. I feel sorry for the president of the Czech Republic. I don't think he actively meant to steal the pen, but he is sure getting some slack for it!

That reminds me, I just finished watching the video of the Czech Republic president! It was sort of hilarious because of the musical score. Well anyway, as a student, I always bring a pen with me. But just a single one. If the pen I have is lost, I would have to become like one of the students that always abuse the rights of others of borrowing their pen, which I really hate because I tend to be forgetful at times.
